Trump Taj Mahal (Atlantic City, NJ) Trump Taj Mahal (Atlantic City, NJ)

I figure since SB and Borg have one, Taj should have one too. We may even be lucky and get a Taj Poker Manager to come by as the Borgata has done very well in their thread.

To start a discussion, I'll talk about the BBJ. 20/40 doesn't regularly participate in it, unless the BBJ is high, maybe at $100k or over. I believe when the $200+k was hit, it was at the 20/40 table. There's a little bit of an uproar saying it's unfair that the 20/40 can choose when to participate, since the bulk of the jackpot is funded by low limit tables, who do not have such a choice.

So, 20/40 should always be excluded?

Also: how do you like their poker promotion for regulars? 50 hours a month played entitles you to: 1) free parking for the next month, 2) a freeroll tournament (don't know how much is given away), and 3) $50 comp if you register for freeroll tournament

Not bad. too bad the freeroll is Friday morning. I can't make it up there in the morning!

Chips are filth (count 1). Recommend either latex gloves or a tetanus shot. Maybe some penicillin after leaving the room. Otherwise, classic room, worth visiting. Big fan of the random Domino's deliveries late night.

It does seems like BS that certain limit regulars could opt in to the BBJ when it's high.

I like playing @ the Taj. It's on the Boardwalk, close to other casinos, the comps are good, and the game selection is unrivaled (except for the Borgata, which is not on the Boardwalk). The floorpeople almost always do a good job of helping you to your seats and usually the floor is good about starting new games when the list gets long enough. I haven't seen a better-run room, but I'd say the Borgata is run just as well. (Qualification: I have not played at Harrah's yet, but I will by the end of the summer.)

I really like teh Taj...And quit complaining about the chips. Everyone complains about Borg's plastic chips and they got those so the chips dont get dirty. It is a casino. You touch dirty surfaces. Wash your hands and pack some purell as I do...

The monthly freeroll has $5000 in prizes. I think the free parking isn't worth much because most people who regularly play 50 hours in a month probably already have a higher level card which gves them free parking. Also many of them may already have more comp dollars than they know what to do with (like me).

It is kind of unfair that the 20/40 can choose to play the jackpot or not, but even more unfair that I was playing in the game until about an hour before it hit last week!

It would be more fair to just exclude the game altogether, or only take a drop once the pot gets pretty big. It is pretty stupid that they would have to pay every hand, because it is a lot less likely to get hit than it is in a lower limit game - fewer people see flops and showdowns.

I also think it should be dropped from the 10/20, or at least when it gets shorthanded. I was playing 4 handed in the middle of the night a few weeks ago, and the game broke because of the drop - we were playing a lot of hands, most without showdowns, and it was taking a lot of money out of the game with pretty much no chance to hit the jackpot.

Generally speaking, I enjoy playing at the Taj.

Haven't been in awhile though. Are they still serving crappy drinks in cups vs. top shelf booze/bottled beers ala Borgata?

All I know is they make a mean White Russian.

I don't know about top shelf, but players in timed games (10/20 limit and up)can get full beer bottles, not just cups.

They no longer have red bull though, some other cheaper energy drink instead.

It's "Monster." I haven't had it, but I've heard mixed reviews from other players.

This is the main problem with the Taj...

Yea, it's pretty unfair to mostly anyone that the 20/40 guys can choose when to do the BBJ. But the Taj caters to them so much, I wonder if it'll change.

$5000 freeroll isn't bad. I wonder how many people play it. I would if I could, but I can't take off work! grrrr. I played 51 hrs in Apr.

LOL at Tajs fake Red Bull, whoever knew they made fountain Red Bull. I recomend screwing the Taj and making your way to Harrahs (The hands down best casino in AC) and its close to the Borgata. They prob have the same rules on the re bulls and drinks etc.. But never do they care. If your playing poker esp cash game etc they seem to overlook the small things, as well as a nice noticeable tip to start out with to the waitress never hurts either, then the drinks seem to start flowing

I have heard that the policy may be changing soon. One of the floors told me he also thought it was unfair and was going to look into it. Most of the regulars don't want it anyway.

14 responses so far and not 1 post about their selection of stud games? I love the fact that I can play 1-5, 5/10, 10/20, and 20/40 stud at just about any hour of the weekend if I wanted to. It doesn't get much better than that if you like stud, especially when the skill level from 1-5 up to 10/20 is basically novice.

The place to play stud is the Taj!!! There poker room runs the most mixed games and will always start any game you want wit enough interes. The Taj is the place fot the non NLHE cash games

I'm a big fan of the chicken fingers and fries at the poker snack bar. Going up there to eat is like stepping into a 1980s small town diner. Very surreal.

Good job starting this thread. I will always feel partial towards the Taj-Mahal. I have had a lot of good times there and met a lot of cool posters there as well. I played there before I saw the movie Rounders. I found out about the movie Rounders after I started playing poker.

Back when I first started playing poker in AC, only 4 room had a poker room.the Taj,The Trop, Harrahs Marina ( first place I ever played poker, 1-5 stud) and the Sands. The Sands hosted the 5-5 post limit hold em game that ran from Friday-Sunday afternoon. Back then, that was considered the "big game" or "big bet" poker.

I played at the Taj on weekends and at the Trop during the week.

I used to eat a cheese steak from Pat's Steaks on the corner of Pennsylvania almost every Saturday night.

I used to enjoy playing the $10-$20 half kill to $15-$30 two way game Stud High lo, Omaha hi lo. I remember once playing the game against a guy who just sat down because it was a mid limit game without a waiting list. He was the fourth person at the table. We played a round of stud hi low and I had an A2346 low with an AK flush against this player. He called me on the river and said I declare lo to be two pair. The dealer explained to the player what an 8 lo meant.

I remember playing in a $5-$10 limit hold em game against a drunken maniac and calling a capped pot on the button preflop with jq suited and winning a pot over $500.

Ok, enough of walking down memory lane.

I dislike everything about the Taj (such as the theft of the bbjp money described in the OP), except that the two best 10-20 HE games I have seen all year were there.

The chairman tower is nice, I like the accomidations a lot. The Taj is nice but it isn't my favorite room in AC. I don't really like the atmosphere, theres always tons of really old people playing poker or slots (I kno its AC, but I feel like they flock to the Taj), the chips are kinda dirty but they aren't as bad as people say. Dealers are always freindly.

If I played poker for pure enjoyment (didn't care about winning or losing) I would never play at the Taj but I play at the Taj occasionally because the room is always booming. I rarely wait for a 1/2 table. During the day the action is tight but younger people do show up to play. Also I find there is a lot of casual poker players at the Taj playing with scared money. At the Borg these people usually have some sort of knowlege of the game, never saw a first timer sit at a table. I've seen a bunch of people make beginer mistakes at the Taj, not knowing when to post blinds, trying to raise a $10 bet to $15. Taj is def a room worth checking out esp on an off night like a monday in Winter. Taj is one of the few rooms with an actual game selection available.

I'll have to try it again but I was not impressed the first time. Overcooked it. 2-1 comps for the place turned me off immediately also.

Burger is definately not 2 for 1 comps. Would be very suprised if it ever was since it is owned by Trump.
