Personally I'd love to see this happen. But, I'm very skeptical. I posted something covering this topic over in the Revel thread.

The Revel is performing sub-par in terms of revenue and profits thus far. Honestly with the cost that it took to build that place I wouldn't be surprised if they were in dire trouble ten years from now. It's possible that other places fold and then Revel picks up the slack and begins to profit as forecasted or hoped that it would. However Revel's marketing strategy is to bring in people to AC who would not otherwise come there by being a destination resort. The problem is that Atlantic City is not the Bahamas. So I don't see how Revel intends to successfully pull this off, especially considering the cost it took to build the Revel. I like the fact that it is entirely non-smoking however. Revel's future remains to be seen honestly and the poker room itself doesn't get the traffic it needs to be a good poker room spreading a lot of games any day of the week. However, I don't think the Tropicana is a bad destination for AC. And I would be surprised if it was one of the casualties in the future financial profit shearing onslaught everyone thinks will happen. I hope Trop still exists after AC pulls it together and gets through the recession.

Well that is not saying much though since the Borgata is the ONLY casino in AC turning a profit these days. The Trop should stay around all the upgrades they added over the years with the clubs, places to eat, imax theater, etc. I think the Trop will be around for a long time to come. On your point about the Revel being a resort I agree they are making a mistake. Nobody comes to resorts in December. Only people come is to gamble. People want a resort they go to Vegas

^^^Yes well it is also the fact that it cost an inordinately huge amount of money to build. Revel is nice enough to survive but it might not. And it's not a good sign that they are not off to a running start. Time will tell eventually but I for one feel skeptical although hopefully optimistic about it's future because it is a very nice resort/casino. And the Revel has the best food on the Boardwalk bar none so it has that going for it. But their plan and marketing strategy, especially in a down market may outweigh any optimism the Revel has for the long-term success of that place. They are not going to pull anyone in or very few outside AC who would not normally come there. Their plan doesn't fit the demographic of AC. I hope they do well. But I am skeptical and will only believe it when it happens.

Uh, no, you don't. You really don't. Think of how comically ridiculous this sounds on so many different levels. If you feel I'm wrong, be my guest and poll the thread as to which of us doesn't know what we're talking about.

if someone is clearing 100k @ 1/2, why are they playing 1/2?

Tropicana is the only place besides the Borgata that should stay in existence with the Revel being built. Tropicana has so many things to do in their building. It just sucks that the actual casino at times looks so dirty and unappealing.

You likely (almost guaranteed) will not be able to get your hours and book a poker rate that day. You have to earn your hours and then book the poker rate in the future. The good news is once you are shown as averaging the 4-5 hours/day or whatever it is (I forget), it is in the system forever. I am sure to only use my card while playing when I know I am playing the day there just so I can use that rate whenever I need to.

Does anybody think it's possible maybe just one time to come together and have a pink game just for old times sake? Obviously if the games is full of 2+2ers it won't be a bargain but let's maybe line up a date!!!

Hey looking to stay at the trop tuesday the 14th, i saw some mixed comments on the poker rate. If i get 4-5 hours in early in the morning/day can a get a poker rate for that night? Also im assuming while the room is on the decline they are still running 1-2 games around the clock even on a tuesday?

that should work, but weekdays all the rooms are severely discounted anyway. check groupon, living socials, and tropicana.net. they usually have a deal going for a cheap weekday room plus some food or a show or something.

I know awhile back that there was this going around and I know I responded to it saying it was unlikely [1].

Earlier in the month Matt Afflack posted his poker goals. See here [2]. The goals are:

Quote:
45 hours / week minimum of grinding. (most of this @ 2/5nl and 15/30 Omaha 8)
5 hours / week minimum of Studying game (books , videos , HH review, Equity calcs)
$8,000 / month profit (trying to stay away from these goals as they are somewhat out of my control but this should be fairly obtainable)
$1,000 / week for expenses (deposited weekly into bank)
Really develop and perfect my Limit Omaha 8/better game
Final Table a live tournament

Note that this is $96K a year at minimum at 2/5 & Omama ($8K x 12mo). The point is that it's not 1/2. So if we cut $96K in half that's about $48K for 1/2, prob on the high side too.

whats the opinion on saturday afternoon games (1/2)
gonna be in ac next weekend and staying at trop that night and figured id possibly check out the room after i attempt an early checkin at 2. Is it even worth it or should i just go to caesars or ballys. I did not like how taj played but like the caliber of play at del park. the only other experience i have live is home games and a underground club in long island other 2+2ers have been to.

confirmed soft game. played for almost 2 hours like 3-5pm and came in time as they opened up a new table. most shortbought for 100 to 200 and had 3 women 1 older asian and a couple bachelor party bros and bigger guy( really nice guy) 2 of the women are regular players one mustve been in her 60's who bubbled the wpt at borgata the other day and the other just moved from charlestown area. anyways had a dream table mainly limping so it was slow pace but had 2 amazing hands that really boosted my stack with a few meager $20-$40 pots

910s flopped top 2 and the women at the other end of the table bet into me and on the turn i reraised her and the river she shoved and i was like instacall and she had jack and peaced

next had KK and the person to my right the borgata lady made it 7 pre and was like this cant go any better. Flopped a full house and she ended up folding and the guy to my left bet into me and he ended up folding the river because my bet was a bit large and got greedy. and ended up showing!

profited 202 in this short time. ez game

Let's get one thing straight. I walked in here on Sunday ad the room had 4 1/2 NL tables and one had 5 players. I was looking for a 2/5 and they said they do not have that game tonight. Room was dead and walked out and took a taxi to borgata. My kids love the beach so I stay there but goodness this room needs to close ASAP.

Very true. IMO, with today's economic climate coupled with the competition in neighboring states, AC cannot sustain this many poker rooms.

AC poker would thrive with 4 poker rooms. Borgata, and any three of the other remaining rooms...

This room still dead? I booked a room for friday and saturday night coming up and was looking to play. Im assuming 1-2 still runs around the clock with a rare 2-5 game on the weekend? Any info would be great.

Also I have played at the trop many times and have a poker card however I have never attempted to redeem any comps for hours played. Can I assume I would have something on my card? Do you have a certain amount of time to use your comps before they expire?

Wondering the same thing also, I am coming on A Sunday in December and looking to play in a few tournaments. Coming with a group of guys who will play in cheaper tournaments, so mainly wondering if the midnight still runs?

Geez, this thread is depressing. I'm thinking no post for past TWO MONTHS is indicative of level of interest/action. Did the room close recently ? If so, Thought I would have seen the news here. I have to stay there Wed night for an early Thurs meeting and can't find the room on Bravo.........
