Oh my Goooood...just popped in to treasury to watch a few hands...Jesus Christ this 1 guy called down 3 streets with 29o hitting a 2 on the river, then with 26o the next hand . Rebought right away. I was asked to leave because I was drooling all over the floor.
I need to get there again!!

You mean to say the casino in Cairns is good? What's their rake like?

Rake is meh - 10% $15 max. $50-$500 buy in 2.5/5 nl
I mean great as in standard of play is probably worse only at Jupiters from my experience in Australian card rooms

You really think so?
2/4 becomes 2/5
Comission goes from $13 max to $14
max buy in goes from $400 to $500
If pot is between $1-$49 there is no commission.
Less $1 chips for dealer to change = faster game.

I'm fine with it.

Treasury website says "$2-$5 with commission 10% capped at $15 with a $100-$400 buy-in – This will replace the $2-$4 and the commission will change"

So, the changes as noted on the website would be:
2/4 becomes 2/5
Commission goes from $13 max to $15 max
Max buy in stays at $400

I don't see any mention of no rake on pots $1-49, which would be fantastic, for the 2/5 NL game. I did see it under the $5/5 NL game as follows: "Red Chip Rake – Round down to the nearest $5 unit."

The changes to $2/4 have been in place for 3 months now. How is it going?

I like the changes... the 2/5 tables are still pretty soft, especially on Fridays and Saturdays. On Sunday through Thursday there's always two tables running after 4pm or so, and you'll occasionally be lucky enough to play 5/5. On Fridays and Saturdays there's normally one or two 5/5 tables and two to three 2/5's going by 8pm.

I've recently started playing a lot more often and am finding a lot of success. There are a few strong players, but the majority are either nits or have literally no idea what they're doing.

Has anyone been in the past few months? Is the rake terrible? Filled with regs?
Thinking of going down sometime.

Opening hours shrunk a few weeks ago. Mon-Fri is now noon-late, Sat-Sun still 10-late. Staff seem to think they are winding it back, because there won't be poker in the new upmarket casino when they move in a few years time.
Everything they have done with space, opening hours and customer service over the last decade fits with this.

They will follow Vegas and not re-open poker. Even at the max, 6-handed, won't be worth the staff or the effort. They have been trying to kill it off since it shrunk into the corner, at the other end of the building, all those years ago.

They were actually putting in some effort before the lockdown they moved it upstairs away from the foodcourt added weekly tournaments added more tables games were good omaha running 3 or 4 times a week was looking good for the future bummer this **** happened..

But yeah I think you are right in saying we wont see it again this year..

A lot of players simply gave up. Sitting on a waitlist of 40, for 4 hours, with only 2 tables running didn't make sense. This probably explains why the Gold Coast returned to being a better poker room.
Good to see they have moved upstairs. Staff talk about poker being huge in the new casino; maybe they are lifting their game towards a better future, in a much bigger dedicated space, in a brand spanking new facility.
Take a while until a viable social distancing workaround comes up. They won't be alone; away from Crown and Star, most of the smaller poker rooms won't reopen for a while. If there is a significant second wave, it might take a lot longer than most players can cope with.
Online is probably the only safe, and viable, option.

Anyone have any idea when the new Queens Wharf casino will open in 2022, and whether they will offer poker, and if so, the number of tables and opening hours?
