Is Maurie "the Master" Pears still putting in his weekend appearance? His does well for his years (and armed forces background).

I'm a dealer at Treasury and, until a few days ago, played at Jupiters. I've heard of a nice 1/1 rotation game in the Valley on Saturdays I may have to investigate.

ah ha.....now I know who you are. Took me a while, but I knew you were of a more mature age (of the Treasury dealer demography).......you should take a trip to Auckland and try the 2/4 @ SkyCity : you'd enjoy it.

Sorry DC. Now I don't know who you are.....totally mis-read the hand. Best to always be anonymous though anyway, when it comes to poker.

I'll say that I'm easily in the top 3 Omaha dealers in the building and leave it at that.

You should have taken a few days off Chicken and flew down to Melbourne to chase Aussie Millions glory.

{And it's one of the few periods every year that Melbourne is hotter than Brisbane.}

I had 3 weeks booked off work from May last year just for it. Was planning on playing 3-4 side events and a bunch of cash, hopefully win a main event seat.

Turns out life is a little more expensive than I first thought, so now I'm hoping to get down in October for WSOP.

Are you making the trip down for either?

Before I booked the time off I had been talking with a guy who runs a poker supply shop online out of Sydney who was interested in sponsoring me to play a couple of events in exchange for advertising his brand. He stopped replying in October after a visit to his suppliers in Asia so not sure what happened with that

return for : I'll be down at Crown early in the piece. Lots of 2/4 sessions. Might, but only might, return for events 11, 14 & 15 in the first week of Feb.

Accom early was fine (I picked up 3 nights @ Travelodge Southbank for $277 total, booked early Nov), but as usual Melb is expensive Fri/Sat nights. I organised flights @ Virgin sale time so that wasn't bad either.

So it's probably just cash games for me but if it works out I'll just pay the $1100 and $2500. Don't have the time (or patience) for satty entries; if it works on the cash tables I'm in direct.

Always interesting to sit back and absorb it all though. Deal faster.

I wonder what the logic is behind the recent 'no straddle rule'? (you can blind raise, but you can't push the bet out beyond the bet line until you have 2 cards). And encouraging players to 'straddle' or spruiking the notion is frowned upon too.
I would have thought is was in the casino's interest to promote bigger pots (and thereby extract max rate from every pot?)
At least they haven't entered super-greed city like the GC yet (10% capped at $20)
(yet!)

The reason they've given (collusion yada yada) is purely to satisfy Lee since he thinks people agreeing to straddling is negatively influencing the game.

The rule has always been present though. It's more to do with the fact that if the dealer screws up the deal and there's a straddle there, it's considered to be reasonable action and a misdeal can't be declared. What follows is a whole stupid mess that's a huge waste of everyone's time so waiting another 10 secs for the cards to come out isn't really a huge deal in my eyes

Lee has way, way too much influence. Lost count of the number of times he insists upon a raise when two red chips are bet following a four dollar raise. The intention of call is obvious but his pedantism overrules. Catches players from interstate every time. Haven't seen him in for a while? Maybe his mental health issues have caught up with him? Did you see him over the weekend?

I don't do day shifts so I very rarely see him, but I have heard that recently whenever he's been getting to the table, more than half the table leaves and it breaks. Surprised it didn't start happening earlier.

I'm headed to Brisbane for work and am planning to play a session or two at Treasury. I would play the smaller games listed on the website ($1-$3 and $2-$4 NL, $2-$2 PLO, maybe $2-$3 NL/PLO). The max rake listed is much higher than in the US, but the bigger games and the $2-$2 PLO are played at 5% Max $20.
I have a few questions.

Do all these games run nightly? Weekends?

How is the quality of play? I saw in the thread the Jupiter casino recently increased their rake. Have the regs/pros from there moved to Treasury?

Am I right in assuming the casino isn't leaving money on the table and that PLO game must play huge? Average pot would have to be $260+ for them to rake more at 5%/$20 than at 10%/$13. Or are they just trying to attract players to PLO with lower % rake?

How does the $1-$3 NL play compared to $2-$4? Is the smaller game beatable with the $50-$200 buyin and the 10%/$13 rake or is there no point in playing $1-$3?

Also, is there a jackpot drop on top of the rake?

Thanks

There's no jackpot at all. Omaha is actually $2/$4 (they never updated the website). The $2/$3 rotation game very rarely gets up, and if it does its generally changed to omaha within an hour.

Omaha and $1/$3 usually only get up on the weekend. It's mostly $2/$4 with the occasional $5/$5 running through the week. If I was allowed to play here, I'd never play $1/$3. Even if I wasn't rolled for it I'd stick to $2/$4. Even just dealing $1/$3 infuriates me.

Some of the Jupiter's regulars pop in every now and then, usually on the weekends, except for the old greek guys who don't care how much rake they pay.

Thanks a lot Chicken. I appreciate the insight. If a mid 20s dealer sits at my table I'll ask and try to thank you in person. And if you're dealing to a late 30s yank, ask if he hit his quad zeros:-)

Has anyone played the 2.5/5 game at cairns casino? Moving up to port Douglas for work for a couple months and can't find any info on the game. Want to know whether it runs regularly and is it worth playing?

Live in Byron and usually play Jupiters, sometimes treasury when I'm up brissy way
