The sad fact is this card room is dead since Running Aces opened.
You won't find much there during the week but may find a few low limit games on weekend evenings.

I used to play here a lot and it was packed full on weekends but not anymore.
The only reason I go down there anymore is for the monthly Omaha 8 tourney.

The place is completely dead, a petty 2-6 spread game will run here and there and maybe 2/4...Very rare that a 2-10 spread game will run...

If anyone is interested in getting a 4-20 spread game going there tonight (Friday Oct. 8th 2010) or 9th... I will phone in my name to start the list at 6oclock each for each of these days. Me and two of my buddies are ready to play so maybe we could get one for sure going today...we only need 6 more players! Post in this thread & then call in for the 4-20 interest list @6pm or later

The TI phone number is 1-800-222-7077

then press 4 2 4 but slightly pause before pressing each and you will be connected right to the poker room to get ur name on the list.

From the sounds of it. This room will be closed down within a year. Replaced by profitable slot machines. If they don't put some very good promotions together, this cardroom will be a thing of the past. Pretty sad because I liked this room.

I was there last night. 2/4 LHE 2/6 spread and 2/10 spread were running from 6 pm to Midnight. I left at midnight so I don't know how long they went. First time there, that card room blows.

I was there last night, the room filled up by 10pm. A lot of 2-10, one 2-60 table, one 6-12, I think a 2-4.

Well, I haven't been to TI since Running Aces opened, but tonight seems like a good time for a visit during the hopefully last weekend of the state shutdown. My beef with TI in the past was long lists with empty tables. Let's see if they have solved their dealer logistics since 2008.

Keep an eye out for deer....

From what I am reading, they are working on getting the bills ready for a special session on Monday. The Vikings stadium is not likely to be brought up in this special session though there will also be a $500 million bonding bill. Dayton did not like ideas of the tobacco bonds or the education funding shift; whether the racino proposal is acted on here as a means to eliminate the need for one of these measures is to be seen.

With the state shutdown still on for possibly another week, I make my first trip down to TI in 3 years. The dealer competency was good, and the ability to open new tables as lists grow was much improved over the past. On a Friday afternoon, these games were going:

- 1 table, 2/4 Fixed limit HE
- 2 tables, 2/6 spread limit HE
- 2 tables, 2/10 spread limit HE

The 2/10 games were fairly tight, the 2/6 games had some of the worst low stakes players I've ever seen. Apparently many players were there because of the Canterbury shutdown, and they clearly do not understand the nuances of spread limit.

As afternoon turned into evening, games were added in this order:

- 2/60 spread limit HE
- 4/8 fixed limit Omaha/8
- 2/6 spread limit HE

A few random comments:

TI is very smokey, even though the poker room is no smoking.

Something called a "rock" was used, which I have never seen in 20+ years of card rooms. It's a 5 dollar red chip in a white chip game. Whoever wins the chip in a pot is loosely obligated to use the rock as a straddle when in is under the gun. The rock moves around to pot winners. Kind of interesting, but I have never seen this before.

Over buttons were used to raise the ceiling on the spread limit. Several players at the table requested over buttons. On any given hand, if all remaining players in the hand had over buttons, players had the option to bet or raise higher than the game limit.

The playing cards have extra large print, good for us "older" players.

Fun point of the day: our table was selected as winner of a "hot seat" promotion. This entailed adding $100 in free slot play to your player card. Most guys opted to play a mechanical roulette game, put $50 on black and $50 on red. I tried 100 hands of $1 Jacks or Better, and came away with $99. Moral of the story: make sure you get a player card even if you don't plan a playing enough to earn worthwhile comps.

Did they make you fill out a w-9? If you accumulate over $600 in "bonus" money over the year you get 1099d (Booo). Their comp rate is .25 (insulting) and you are not eligible for BBJ ($2 raked per hand) or other promotions if you don't check in at the desk with your player card.

As a regular player I made my way down there during the shutdown and was very disappointing. No auto shufflers keep HPH low and the insanity there the last weekend before the shutdown ended was annoying. I watched a floor yell at a guy for complaining that the seat he had been waiting to open for two hours had been sold to a regular that had been there for 15 minutes. I never thought I would hear the phrase "If you don't like it you can go play somewhere else" come from a floor, especially in a room that is looking to loose 4 of its 10 tables because the space is not being used efficiently enough for the casino. It was a mixed experience overall the dealers were nice enough but the support staff and service was poor. I guess I just get spoiled at Canterbury.

Tried searching the forums and reading through a few threads. I'm seeing TI picked up some when the state shut down CP and such. I'm wondering what the games are like normally these days? What games/How often they run, etc? Any replies greatly appreciated.

Found this via Google search and bumping it as I was/am a TI reg. Always play biggest game going in the room at the time. Prefer Aces action but TI is 25 min from my house.

Sad to say this room is in a slow state of decay. The only times that bigger games get going are on weekends and even then they usually break around 3-4 AM. You rarely ever see a 4/20 going but usually can get a decent (albeit short) 2/10 on a FRI or SAT. The room has now moved back by the hotel and bowling alley and only has six tables instead of 10. If you are going park valet by the hotel otherwise you will have to walk forever to find it using the main entrance.

Action is good when the 2/10 runs as its a mix of regs and terrible casino goers trying their luck at the pokers. Pretty loose weak and while there isn't much insanity betting your good hands can get paid off. I would recommend playing super tight, then betting the **** out of any hand you get. Don't bluff or make value plays. The players aren't good enough go understand them.

In a way its sad to see the shape that room is in. Casino management obv doesn't care about it and if seems as if its like some red headed stepchild they want to bury away and forget. However there is still money to be made, you just have to guess right as to when to go since the bigger games are most def profitable.

It's too bad this room has fallen as much as it has. This was always my favorite alternative to Canterbury back before Running Aces was around. The old room was really a nice place and right next to the casino floor as well. What does the new room look like?

I have been down to the Island twice in the last month. The first trip was a few weeks back on a Friday and there was one table of 2-10 spread running at 8:45pm. The game was slow moving at first due to a couple of OMCs but as the booze flowed the table loosened up and actually had a straddle going by about 60% of the players.

Towards the end of the session 50% of the table was bombed ( myself included ) and half the table had over buttons so we were in effect playing 2-20 spread 10 handed!! I almost completed a star destroyer before the game broke at about 4:00am.

I was also there on a recent Wednesday and played in the $65.00 tourney. The field was pretty soft and about half of us were drinking ( I like to tip a few at TI since I will usually just get a room for 1/2 off or free ). Ended up chopping at the end and played a bit of 2-6 afterwards as it was the only table running. Eventually the table agreed to change to a 2-10 spread game but broke shortly after. Half of the players seated through out the session were playing the game in a card room for the first time. I wish TI was about 20 miles closer since I love being able to degen on the slots from time to time.

Just wanted to revive this thread and ask if anyone knows what the state of this room is at this time. I assume very dead during the week and maybe a few games going on the weekend. What limit game to they play here normally? Do they ever get a 2/100 spread going in there on the weekend?
I used to play there a lot before Running Aces and am thinking about driving down on a weekend to check this place out but only if they get some decent games running.
Thanks
