I haven't played at Port Perry in years and I saw that they introduced a Bad Beat Jackpot. Is it on all tables of limit hold'em?

Yes, all the hold em tables

God awful. I could see them doing this at the donk 5/10 and selected 10/20 tables. But now they take a time charge at 15/30, 20/40 and take a 1 dollar drop per pot.......

As far as I know, all games at GBH are raked. Time charge went away a long time ago, maybe more than a year ago.

Plus, I've never seen a 15-30.

No your right the game was 30/60. Which really only ran on weekends. I don't know where I got the 15/30 from. If any rounders are going out to Port Perry to scoop fish. That new spread limit Omaha game might destroy the fish tank that was the limit game. Half the table on the Omaha game were total bingo playing fish. They will get destroyed by spread limit.

I was at the GBH on wed/thurs. Played the spread limit hold'em, which apparently doesn't go every night. One table only, short handed most of the night. Regs said the Omaha spread limit has only started once or twice since they introduced it. They did say it was pretty wild though.

To be honest, I'm not sure spread limit will survive at the heron, not because it's decimating the fish or anything, just because no-one seems interested. Everyone is there to play limit, and no-one wants to play anything new.

It's the same when I ask them if they can spread O8 - they look at me like I'm semi-******ed and ask why someone would want to play a split-pot game when they can gamble it up at limit Omaha. Not just the floor either, the regs as well.

In case anyone is interested, the 5-100 spread limit hold'em played much smaller than I thought it should, much more like 2-5nl with a cap. In the 12 hours I played, there were maybe 10 pots >$500, and I didn't see a preflop 3bet with anything less than QQ+. Play was generally terrible though, so when the game goes I'm sure there's money to be made.

An interesting post.

I think, though I may be wrong, that no Ont. poker room is licensed for hi/lo.

More generally, do you find Wed. & Thur. good nights there? I've tended to limit my visits to GBH to Friday & Sat., feeling that the action won't be good on other nights. (The last time I played on a Sunday evening, that was certainly true: and the games mostly dried up by 10.)

First time to Great Blue Heron yesterday (saturday):

Pros:
Lots of limit games!
Smallest limit game is $5/10
Really friendly players and relaxed atmosphere
10% rake up to $5 on all tables plus $1 jackpot drop (way better than LA!)
They dont' drop anything if you steal the blinds preflop
Beautiful Location

Cons:
Can't listen to iPod at the table?!!?!!
10 Players at a table! KILL ME PLEASE! So boring without an ipod!
No comps at all! No free drinks etc...
Incompetent floor men and dealers (I saw the dealers flip over cards and launch cards off the table when dealing at least once a round)
No automatic shufflers dealers are soooo slow shuffling!
Not much action (at the $5/10 at least)

Having said that I will go back because I love limit games. I took a bus from Whitby to Port Perry and then biked the rest of the way. It was a beautiful ride! My pedal snapped off which kind of sucked and I had to work twice as hard but it was still awesome. I made the mistake of not calling in advance to get my name on the list (Big Mistake!) I put my name on the 5/10 and 10/20 and waited two hours and had the self control not to play any pit games while I waited The $5-100 spread limit had a lot shorter of a wait list but looked to be pretty competent nits (waiting for bigger limit games) so I didn't even bother.

I watched a lot of the $5/10 and 10/20 games while I waited and the $10/20 games had a bit more action but for a Saturday night I was quite disappointed. I'm from LA where it is pretty standard to have 7 ways capped preflop on weekends. (I never saw the betting capped preflop at any table all night!!!) So yeah pretty much not much action There were fish but they were more the call station fish instead of re raise everything fish (my favorite).

I finally got a seat in $5/10 and it was a nit fest. I couldn't believe how many times it folded to the blinds. People were open limping AK and 10's!!!! ! Multiple times I saw this happen!!! Absolutely no action. I managed to loosen up the table a little and people bluff catching against me so I could bet mid pair good kicker and any top pair once they were convinced I was insane but it was SOOOO BORING! I asked for a table change almost right away (I was also completely card dead). Table change came about an hour later and I moved to a slightly looser table but just as horrendously passive. I managed to very very slowly and painfully make $100 over four hours time. Next time I go I'm bringing more money so I can play $10/20 which had more raising but overall still really passive. The $20/40 limit game seemed to be where the most action was but there were still about 6 nits at the table. One table of 20/40 omaha hi was going but i didn't catch much of the action since it was in the back, one of the floormen explained to me that omaha is a crazy game with no skill because you have to see the flop with any four cards except quads in your hand.

you can track the GBH bad beat here.

DSS next time you go to GBH you can call ahead and reserve your spot on the table lists (90 minutes). Once you get there just check in. This way your wait to get on the table will not be long. You can call the Poker pit to get you name on the table lists at 888 294-3766 x263.

GBH in general is anything but nitty or passive...lol.

GBH playing LHE is river city on steroids, only worse play I have seen is the CNE.

So far as I know the call-in is still for 60 mins. before arrival. (I've had my name removed from the list for being more than an hour arriving after calling.) And I agree that the play at most tables is not nitty, though 7-way caps are certainly unusual. (Which is not true, as you suggest, at the Ex.) But I've seen plenty of 4-way caps preflop in the higher limits. And, Yes, the Omaha game is especially likely to see action.

This could be why they started the BBJ. I have never seen the 5/10 not having 4 to 6 limpers and up to 6 cold callers of an early position raise. Maybe the economy has busted a bunch of fish that used to play those games back in 02' to 03' (when I played there). The way you describe that game it looks near unbeatable with a 6 dollar drop.....

Actually it was changed at the beginning of the month to 90 minutes.

Keep in mind what I consider "action".......I come from LA where everyone there seems to hate their money and set it on fire and in a hurry 24/7. At the GBH, the $10/20 and 20/40 games seemed to have a lot more action than the 5/10 game but I was running so bad for the first few hours and I didn't have enough to move up so i just decided to kick it in the baby game and get a feel for the place. I'm glad I did because I learned that if you check with chips in your hand it counts as a bet ?!?!?!?! what?!?!?!?

I will definitely call ahead next time to get my name on the list! Thanks for the heads up.

Ya, action at 5/10 is ludicrous. Waste of time to play that game. The rake alone kills the tables. I stick with 10/20. Atleast when you are stuck at 10/20 it is possible to build it back up. I have always had trouble building a stack at 5/10.

Ok cool I'm going to try to avoid the $5/10 passive rake trap from now on then. I dont' know if you have ever played $2/4 limit at any of the really small casinos in Vegas like the Flamingo or Imperial Palace but it is very similar with really passive old people who limp and check call monsters. It's a complete waste of time!

Sadly I have never been to Vegas. It's nice knowing when you get stuck for $400 at 10/20, all you need is a nice pot to make it back.
