Hate to break it to you but if you heard lots of chatter once upon a time and nothing since it's very likely nothing is happening.
Otherwise you would have heard updates from those same sources.
Probably someone started a false rumour 6 months ago perhaps on hope and it just ran before it fizzled because there was no substance to it.

The room is ready but they're having issues hiring enough dealers. Opening looks to be more Q3 at this point.

Woodbine manager gave an update, he's now saying late summer, after the new casino area opens.

Late summer would be September so after the CNE.
Wonder what will happen to the CNE poker room once Woodbine opens their poker room.

I heard from a pro dealer that Woodbine decided to cancel poker. I'd be willing to gamble we don't see poker in Woodbine this year.

Probably nothing, since the CNE has Blackjack though Woodbine has Blackjack.

Two Options:

1/ Woodbine GM is lying to the public.
2/ Your dealer doesn't know what he's talking about.

I suppose either of these could be correct.

Why is there such a mass hype over woodbine poker? is this going to be the next Bellagio?

It will be the only legal full time room in the city, end of story full stop. That said don't expect much from this as the game will be raked to death and in theory could kill off good games in Niagara Falls.

When you put it that way, it could also be bad for online poker. I feel like recs prefer live way more than regs.

Every time I’m on stars there’s usually around 15k people online, so I don’t think online will be dead, and who even knows what stake and structure they will offer, if it’s like the cne with 10 handed games good luck

Live & online poker don't cross over much imo. I'd wager 85% of live players are not regular online players. Maybe even as high as 95%. The only thing that'll cannibalize live games are too many smallish casinos everywhere, like they have in Calgary & Vancouver. For live poker, one or two big casinos is best. If they put it in Pickering and Woodbine that'd be perfect.

Why would the games in Niagara be so good, but Toronto won’t? Do you think the Niagara rake structure is gentle?

Brantford is $15 rake at 10% which is the same casino owners as woodbine. Casino Niagra is lower overall and induces action instead of forcing nittyness.

unpopular opinion, this is not "in the city" something more downtown, waterfront ect would be better, but if the rake and games are just like the cne, it could be over hyped, that said they could surprise everyone

I see no indication of poker are their website. But vague rumours of this were probably what spurred the chatter about poker returning to Woodbine.

No, direct and numerous conversations in writing with the manager of the casino are what spurred the chatter. You can deny that all you want, doesn't change the fact tho.

Yes tourist type fish won't be in abundance as the casino is in the northwest corner of the city that has NO other tourist type options around less some strip clubs just a few miles west of it in Mississauga which is a bedroom sister city.

The government has expanded public transportation options as a GO station will open up on the property at some point in the near future and the UP express option from downtown isn't too far as the airport is within a few miles of the casino as landing planes fly over the race track grounds all day.

On busy days it gets up to 7 tables (they could open more if there was demand). Generally 1-2, 2-5, and 20/40 Omaha hi only.

You mean there are no 5/10 or 10/20 limit? What's the rake in the 1-2 and 2-5 games?

Limit games have basically died off. (Who called it? This guy almost 20 years ago. Who's sad about it? Also this guy). They'll spread it if they have a long enough list and staff. I think the rake is 10% to $15 and bad beat. The list is never long enough and there's never enough staff.
