That's what I meant. "On the game" as in playing themselves on a table of lukewarm legality not banking/running it.

Ok so I heard another rumour tonight about Woodbine maybe getting a poker room in the new expansion wing.

Would devastate the other casinos in Ontario?

Where did you hear this rumour? That would be amazing, but not getting my hopes up

That would be incredible but I'm also skeptical. Where did you hear this? And isn't the expansion at Woodbine not set to finish until 2022?

From dealers. I was playing last night in Brantford when one of the dealers started chatting up the regulars. I can’t remember the dealers name. Young Asian guy with a baby face. I believe he said he had asked about it to see if there were any jobs closer to home when he was told by a manager they were looking into adding a poker room. Anyways I know it’s definitely not ironclad but at least it’s out there.

Heard something similar from a dealer in port perry the week before.

I know, from people in a senior managerial position at GCC, that there are no plans for Pickering or Woodbine to have poker anytime in the foreseeable future.

CNE might be in trouble this year. It normally opens in August but that dungeon seems like it was be a cesspool of germs. I could totally see Toronto cancelling the CNE this year...

Great Blue Heron is opening on Monday. No table games/poker. Have to book a 2hr window in advance. No food service. 50 guests max. 30 union employees out of about 20+x that worked yhere. Screening at the door, masks available and mandatory, lots of hand sanitizers. Slots will be socially distant.

Personally, I'd short great Canadian gaming. The only reason they won their bids in Ontario is they promised the province a guaranteed amount every month and a % on anything after that.

They're not even going to cover the electricity bills let alone the other fixed costs & payroll. They had a lot of free cash sitting around pre-covid, but were plumping a lot of it into expansion (Pickering, hotel in Port Perry, etc). They're still paying their employee benefits for furloughed employees (which is awesome, but expensive).

With the numbers going up again I don't see poker coming back anytime soon, especially as the few months before COVID-19 were just a test run and the poker room manager quit (and most experienced poker staff refused to deal it at that time anyway).

Live Casinos can't open quickly enough as Asian gangs have tried to fill the OLG void.

From the looks of the high end casino this didn't just sprout up as the tables and signage looks professional. The house looks like a palace too and the stakes were Fallsview like...https://toronto.ctvnews.ca/police-bu...cash-1.5126009

Would you now... they're now subject of a friendly takeover bid, everyone's getting paid...

0.0% chance the province will hold them to that contract during Covid. I mean zero.

I loved this story... turned out the guy running it is some sort of front for the Chinese gov't, along with laundering dirty money, either for drugs or shady Chinese gov't investments. If you get a chance, check out the video the YRP made of the bust, it's like something out of a James Bond movie. Tons of money, lots of high end guns, luxurious mansion, the whole thing.

Looks like a new Poker club named Faceless Kings Poker just opened in Toronto.

Anyone played here? If so how is it? Looks kinda small.

This isn't going to go well with covid lockdowns now in place

Similar to escort services and other illegal to semi legal businesses, I don't think the operators care about public safety.

Massage parlors on the street have been shut down because they have a veneer of legality, but underground card games don't have known store fronts that invite the general public to freely attend the games.

You heard it from a dealer. Sounds legit. They usually are the first to know about any operational changes and not have information about the training they need. And they've found a secret spot to put a poker room without lessining their gaming footprint, and adding additional gaming seats at the same time. Interesting!

Despite the overcrowded paigow games there's a reason they only have a limited number of chairs per table. Because the amount of gaming spots are regulated.

The secret poker room at woodbine has circulated since the first rumour of expansion.

If anyone needed any further evidence that Great Canadian was run by a scumball, here you go:
https://www.cnn.com/2021/01/26/ameri...rnd/index.html

Their fearless leader, until two days ago, and his much younger wife.

He's famous!

Should be noted: he has resigned and GCG has a private takeover awaiting government approval. Better? Worse? Only time will tell. They were certainly much better with poker last time they were private, anyway.
