I was told by dealers at the Heron last night they have an agreement in place that Pickering won’t have poker.

There are no plans for Pickering to have poker and that’s from internal. It’s also March now for opening.

I live in Owen Sound. I'm about 2 hrs10mins from Rama, about 2 30 to Elements Brantford and around 3ish for Niagra n Port Perry. I play 1/2 or 1/3 n haven't been playing live for over a decade. I've been playing online last month or so again. Where should I head? What are your favs?

Niagara's your best bet. Brantford has a dealer shortage and charges $8+1 rake for 1/3 which is robbery.

Is Rama that **** now? It's where I played before so I was leaning there but if it's worth the forty five mins to go Niagra I'm down.

Last I heard the rake is $10 for 1/2. Just disgusting. The $7/down session at 1/3 is still bad but way better.

I think Niagara has the best players though. All my poker friends and acquaintances agree.

Port Perry is my favorite. The biggest problem is the shortage of dealers and tables. You need to go early or really late. Get there at 2pm? dont even bother. Last time I had a 2 hour wait, 3 1/2 if you count the call in time. But best tables. Softest games. Dealers are fast now. Rake is relatively low. 10%up to 6.

To me PP>Brantford>Rama>Niagara.

I've been enjoying Niagara lately, definitely a lack of dealers and 10 handed is dogshit but it's alright overall.

Anybody know what the deal is with cardrooms in Toronto?

Been reading about Playground out in Montreal and I read about some rooms in Ohio that do some membership / session bullshit to get around the laws there.

Is it possible to open up a poker room here in the city? I'd be interested in setting a proper one up if it's viable at all. Don't know what sort of regulations or licenses you need, but I've got some people who'd be interested in starting a room up in the city somewhere.

Nahh, Ontario's law regarding this is very strict. There's no way around it which is why there are no official, legal poker rooms in Toronto.

For those who haven't seen -- we're trying to drive the Google reviews rating of the Pickering Casino through the floor, seeing if bad publicity has any impact on Great Canadian's thought process.

So I'd encourage everyone to click on the link below, give them one star, and make some comment about their lack of poker. Let's see if we can get them below 2* as their grand opening present!

Yeah I've been able to find some pretty public small rooms, but surely there's something that can be done? Do you happen to know what the laws / regulations about that are?

If they allow woodbine to have slots and a racetrack right there I don't see why they would have such a hardon against playing poker, gotta change the legislation if so I guess, but I haven't really seen anything specifically dealing with that.

No poker at Woodbine.

There are a few rumours that with the new expansion may come a poker room.

In a nutshell, the law states you can’t make any money off of poker in any capacity. So you can’t, say charge an entry fee or force people to buy soft drinks at 20 dollars each or whatever.

These small poker rooms are illegal, period. The police overlook them for the same reason police overlook a lot of things.

Casinos are all getting better.. Rama has 6 1-2 tables on Saturday. So virtually no wait. Brantford has multiple tables now and port Perry had 3 1-2 tables and are planning to expand. These casinos need poker.

Yeah, because they're often on the game themselves. Used to be the case E of Toronto years ago.

I’m sure some cops get paid off. Others just play poker themselves and wonder why Toronto doesn’t have a legal room.

The vice units of major police forces are cash strapped and if an operator of game keeps the game free of violence and other crimes associated with illegal games the police won't bother with them.

In Woodbridge with the shooting of customers, staff and firebombings this was the complete opposite and a task force which cost millions was set up to take down the organization which ran games and had the other crimes associated with gambling.

If you want to see how the police have ignored crime look at when the police raid massage parlours, they only really look for under age girls and trafficked women.

The legalization of marijuana is another example of this as the federal government has stated the wild west growing and selling of the drug was too expensive to enforce the laws on the book.
