Awesome! Thanks a lot for that.
That looks like a great place for limit indeed. I think I might need to look for an apartment close by come spring

Brantford also has decent no-limit tournaments. Is anybody going to tomorrow's $550 Deep Stack with prize pool up to $50,000?

Agreed but you'll want to think about your living requirements. I'm in central Toronto and love the urban life (though accommodations are expensive) but I'm about an hour and ten minutes from Heron and have pretty much stopped going because I hate the drive back in the middle of the night after a long session (which is pretty much the only kind of session I know how to play). I especially hate the stretch north from the 401 in the winter as you can get some blowing snow even when it's not really snowing ...

The further east you go the shorter will be your drive -- as long as you keep in mind that you want easy access to the 401. (The Beach area, very nice and east of me, would actually be a longer drive because of the way the roads work.) To remain in the Greater Toronto Area and cut the drive down to about 45 minutes, you could locate in Scarborough. At that point you're in deep suburbia with strip malls for culture ...

If you go beyond the GTA on the 401 you could settle in Oshawa and be about 20 minutes south of Port Perry (Heron is on Indian land right outside Port Perry) -- but you'd be in a not-very-flourishing working class community that has historically depended on the now-less-than-healthy auto industry ... Before I would do that I'd get a rural cottage near Port Perry itself and commute to Toronto when I was not playing poker.

I know somebody brought this up before but Pickering voted 60 percent to get a downtown casino. This could be terrific for people that live out in Scarborough or east of that as the drive to Woodbine is fairly long from eastern Scarborough and beyond. http://www.pickering.ca/en/cityhall/...ionResults.asp

Anyone knows whether the OLG online casino (playolg.com) will offer poker? The information from their website is kinda confusing. OLG online casino is set to open in a few weeks time btw.

The Ontario thread says poker will be rolled out later, after the casino is up and running.

Here's a recent posting in the thread "Has limit Omaha high ever been given a decent chance":

The rake is reasonable at 5$ a pot, however in my opinion is beatable. The regulars play very tight as they prey on new players who play 80% of the hands, pots grow to 8-900$ easy and with the kill in play sometimes 1500$. This game is very juicy as it attracts the action junkies from all around. Ive been down 6000 in one night to being up 4000 by the morning, the swings are massive with all games bankroll is very important. ....
Is anyone in this thread playing in this game? I'd love to know more.

Does limit poker still run daily at stakes of 10/20 and 20/40 and how are the games?
I read in older posts that the rake at 10/20 is 10% up to $8, is this still correct?
If yes, is that even beatable?
Any help would be appreciated!
1) You probably want to look into a base of operations in Niagara as Casino Niagara / Fallsview
2) Home games
3) Run online

There haven't been any updates in that thread since my post of March, 2013:

Outlining the new OLG directions generally, it mentions "anticipation of launching online gambling by 2013." However, it is worth keeping in mind the fact that 2010 announcements from OLG predicted online by 2012.
Looking back at that link, I don't see a poker room mentioned and can't recall where I got the information about a subsequent roll-out of online poker. In any case, this initiative moves forward extremely slowly, since that "2013" launch came into being yesterday: https://www.playolg.ca/content/olg/en.html.

So far the site offers "fantastic online casino games and lottery products" ... Not yet part of the casino games but "coming soon," is video poker.

Sorry for no more interesting news.

Further research turns up a Dec. 2014 Toronto Sun article that says future games will include peer-to-peer poker, Bingo, and Sports wagering. No timeline.

What is this? A new Toronto Poker Room?

City Centre Poker

Can't actually be licensed, can it?

I think "officially licensed and registered" is more likely a BUSINESS (or alcohol) license and registration than a LEGAL gaming license from the extremely bureaucratic AGCO. Even the Western Fair poker room could not get a RENEWAL gaming license from the AGCO before when the AGCO wanted security cameras installed over every single table.

I think it's more likely an underground that has put some effort into a website. If this was an above board licensed room, this place would have newspaper ads and radio and possibly television too. That said for an underground the rake is decent, most undergrounds rake the **** out of the games.

Guess City Centre wasnt licensed. Their site was already taken down. It would be a cool idea if a place like Playground Poker Club in MTL ever got established. A place exclusively for poker and not other casino games...

Aren't there ridiculous barriers to entrance into this marketplace? I doubt it ever happens with the current structure in Ontario.

Yes, the governments. Essentially if they allowed private clubs why would anybody play at their casinos in Niagara Falls or Rama(beyond locals). Also even with extra revenue these clubs could force Ontario casinos to lower their rake or to increase the perks. Either way that hurts the bottom line for the government. Beyond registered 1 off charity days poker will only be government run or with a 50/50 private deal with a big corporate partner.

Ps. Housenuts Pm me, I remember the street and I am 97 percent certain on the number but the suite I have no clue but that wouldn't be hard to figure out, but since it's not legal you may need a regular underground player to vouch for you to be let in.

I play in this game weekly, the above is pretty accurate although the swings mentioned are slightly exaggerated. Fun game as far as brick and mortar poker goes, hope u like 3 and 4 players to the river each holding 4 cards. Winning 1 nice kill pot has a drastic effect on your session. Anything specific ask away.

Google street view shows it as a residence, one of a string of attractive looking row houses ...

Hey all,

Moving to Toronto for a couple of months and would like to play in some PLO games. Anything runs regularly between 5/5 and 5/10?

Thanks!

Negreanu recently posted in another thread that there's "a game in Toronto where the blinds are 10-25 with straddles and restraddles playing PLO and NLH and they rake an average of $500 to $600 A HAND ... It's estimated that they rake about $80,000 a week, but the guy who runs the game is a major fish and loses back about $50,000 of the rake". I'm surprised that I've never heard rumours of this. Anyone else?
