The electronic poker room at Western Fair is pretty cool. When is this coming to Woodbine Racetrack and Ajax Down? If they care about profit this is a no brainer.

It is getting closer. An electronic pokerroom has opened at Mohawk racetrack and slots since last Thursday. I checked it out, four tables, looks good.

Does that mean regular holdem but with an electronic dealer (and e-chips)?

If so, were they in use when you checked it out? What stakes?

Up and running at Mohawk when I was there, 1/2 NL, just like Western Fair, I heard rummors that Woodbine and Ajax will get them soon, with lots of tables. Pretty sure I would see you at Woodbine then, right Russell?

Not necessarily. I have almost no NL experience and have never favoured the game. Give me the Ex with its nofoldem 5-10, 10-20, and up.

Hey, that's right it's going to start in only ten days! And no one has started this year's thread yet!

Yonge and Eglington - The Beaches - Bloor West Village. Yonge and St Clair - Davisville
1 bedroom apt runs between 900 and 1300 a month depending on the building.

If you have a car or are planning on having a car I would suggest outside maybe to the west. Oakville - Milton - Georgetown

Good places to eat at Yonge and Eglinton It's bar and eatery central .
StLouis - Chickn' Deli - Grazie - North 49 is nice but pricey.
There is not a bad place around these areas food and drink wise.

Lots of places downtown and in the 2 other areas I mentioned.
Yonge and Eg and Bloor West both on the subway. Beaches are a 15 minute street car ride through a bad part of downtown, Moss Park.
Good Luck

I would agree with all this except that I think these days the Beaches is overpriced and not likely to be what an online poker player wants when he steps outside in the way the other areas are. And the lack of quick access to the subway can be a nuisance. Having said that, I would add that an American may misunderstand when you talk about going "through a bad part of downtown." In Canada that means crappy, not dangerous.

You mean, because something year-round will replace it?

An electronic pokerroom is up and running at Georgian Down. I won't be surprised if Woodbine get it going within a month or two.

It starts Monday. If you run "CNE" as a search term you'll turn up previous years' threads. No one has bothered to start one this year, which may indicate something, though I'm not sure what. Here's the first posting in last year's thread:
Quote:
Only Limit Hold'em. Rake is 5%, maximum $7.50 for 5/10 and $10 for 10/20. There are 24 tables, [up to] 25/50 this year! This would interest the American online refugees who don't mind playing LHE.

You can apply for a VIP Package with three hours of play, which includes:
- free entrance
- free parking.
[Those are free now but] Starting on August [19 this year] when the CNE opens, admission is normally $16 and parking is up to $20.
I'll add that it's easy to get to via TTC (the streetcar drops you off at an entrance that's a bit northeast of the building). The games start out very loose but (I think) get tighter in the last couple of weeks as the enthusiasts go broke and stop showing up (which has sometimes included me) -- though some will argue that when the CNE rides and shows open, some casual novice players will straggle in on a whim. Maybe, but the casino is no longer (as it once was) placed where the casual fair-goer will notice it. (That's ok: it's a nicer venue than the old one--though still utterly lacking in charm.)

The food situation there is pretty poor. But you can't bring food in to eat in the building: I usually take a sandwich and then go outside for a break when I get hungry. Or I get the grilled cheese, which is acceptable (and you can eat it at the table). You can bring in a beverage provided it's sealed when you enter.

I usually play. This August I'm doing some work that cuts into my playtime so i don't know how often I'll get there. But I do plan to show up this Monday. Going is an act of nostalgia for me at this point, since some of the same people are there every year, including players that I first encountered when I cut my teeth in the Charity Casino days of the early 1990s.

Last time I played there(about 02'??) I ate some candy bars and some fruit that I brought from outside. The outside food ban is barely enforced as long as you bring small items. The Dufferin entrance is closer than the Bathurst entrance if you take public transit. If you are going to have a long session where you have to eat a major meal try the food building as the prices are more reasonable and the selection is varied. The only problem is the food building closes around 10PM and the casino is open until 6am.

Bigger problem for now: the food building doesn't open until the fair does.

I think the CNE opened today. Was anyone there? Many games running already? Rake the same as last year or even worse? If anyone's been out there already, let us know how the game was.

so i was there today

rake at 5/T was $7.50
rake at 20/40 was $12.50
rake at 10/20 i forgot to remember

3 tables of 20/40 running
0 tables of 25/50
a lot of 5/T tables, entire left side of the room probably
aside from the 3 20/40 tables on the right side of the room the rest of the tables on that side were 10/20 or 15/30.
there was one 10/20 on the back wall of the left side of the room.

the 20/40 games were all right, but for some reason i feel like the fish will be cleaned out pretty quickly with with the table dynamic that i was seeing across the few tables. that and the rake

I arrived at 5 and played until 2. When I got there, there were lists for 5-10, 10-20, and 25-50. The 15-30 had no list but a full table and no one moving. I got on 10-20 in about 15 minutes and could have 25-50 not long after.

The games were the same as always, and mostly the same people. Some novice dealers but generally they were ok. People were pretty good humoured. (Speaking of which I saw Goldie, for those who know who I mean, come in around 10 but he didn't play at my table.)

The money flowed depending on who sat down, went broke and left but the games weren't as loose as I remember them some years. I switched tables once and caught one with an absolute maniac but I only picked up one pot from him. I caught well early in the session but otherwise ran bad. (I swear that I never picked up so many 74o hands in a single session.) Still I may go back Friday.

NOTE: the casino will be closed this Saturday because of Caribbana.

I played Tues and Wed at 5-10. Saw one guy with a grey beard and kinda did a double take . The mood was very up and gambly on Tues, less so yesterday. At my table on Tues about 15 people went busto.

Yesterday, I had one of the most unpleasant experiences ever against one of the most vile women I have ever played with. A bossy table-cop who appeared to be vying for shift manager. She wore thick red lipstick and resembles Disney's Goofy, with a loud bossy voice. I strive to be 'tiltless' but it was tough boys, how can you play limit poker against someone whose only working button is 'call'? I will insta-tablechange if I ever see her again.

Maybe some of you would like to bust her?
-never bluffs
-bets/raises when she has it
-yells 'raise' in a loud booming voice with aces
-cannot laydown *any* draw no matter how 'long'

Value bet the **** out of her, but hope she don't pull horseshoes!

Out for now...

I think I know who you mean: he's solid. But I'm not sure why the double take. Can't us hold guys hand out at the CNE?

Anyway, if you see a different guy with a grey beard tomorrow (probably at 10-20), just say "Hi Russell" ...
