Never Happen. It would close down virtually all the surrounding casinos (Rama, Brantford, GBH, etc). It would make one hell of a Casino, OLG will never agree.

When Philli opened up PARX it has done a lot of damage to AC.

Today from Toronto Sun:
"While the case for a downtown casino has been gaining traction to the point where it would appear to some politicians it is inevitable, senior Woodbine executives have been lobbying behind the scenes to get at least a piece of the action.

In a perfect world from a racing perspective, they would retain their GTA monopoly on slot machines by getting the green light into turning the current operation into a full-fledged casino. The more likely scenario, if the government comes to its senses, would be a downtown casino complemented by a second one at Woodbine."

Anyone know if Brantford still has an O8 game going? If so, how is it?

Update: I just called them and it doesn't run regularly. Usually just an interest list...

OLG confirms that a TO casino will be opened:
http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/a...-area-olg-says

No details about the date or place. It is said to be part of a large restructuring on OLG's part. Implicit in that is an online presence of some sort.

I read the article in The Globe

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/...rticle2366481/

I didnt get the opinion that a casino is confirmed, but rather just a suggestion from OLG. I do however feel that with the current political climate, and Paul Godfrey at the helm of OLGC, its pretty much a done deal.

Yes, I think the OLG will get pretty much whatever it wants. The "municipal approval" qualifier is the possible hangup, and, given that, they will no doubt act with some alacrity because they will want to get everything in place during Ford's first (and final) term.

I note that the Globe article says, "discussions about a location have not begun." But I presume it will be one of the obvious places: i.e., the Ontario Place-CNE area or Downsview. More likely the former, because it would draw from the downtown hotels, etc.

I doubt we'll see this open before 2015--unless a temporary location is put into place (such as the current CNE casino), pending the completion of construction.

This is such great news for poker players. There is such a vibrant poker scene all over the GTA shoved underground where we are ripped off with the rake. I cant imagine how incredible the poker room would be when all the degens can come out of hiding and play legally.

It has been in discussion for several years..

Just rip down some of the old conference buildings at CNE, and place it their.

I'm getting tired of 2 hour bus rides to niagara falls.

I wonder which ones they're going to close. Have to think Brantford and Great Blue Heron are on the chopping block, probably Casino Niagara as well.

It is confirmed that there will be a casino in Toronto. It is most likely going to be at Ontario Place, but that has not been decided officially yet. Also, all of the OLG casinos are going to be sold. Every casino in Ontario will still have to follow OLG regulations, but will be owned and run privately just as the Niagara Falls and Windsor casinos already are. Some of the less successful sites are going be relocated to areas with a larger customer base. The OLG wants all of this to be complete within the next 18 months.

Where do you get the 18 month figure from?

Ugh. Still OLG regulations? Does this mean no NL games? (Still never sure why Fallsview can run them but Brantford can't)

I might be wrong, but I think the LHE only games are a result of casinos designated as Charity Casinos, such as the Blue Heron and Brampton. But the Niagara area casinos and Casino Rama are not and have NL games. Id assume the casino in Toronto would never be charity and as such open to all games.
