Omaha has not been running at Fallsview lately. Esp. during WSOP when so many of us were away. 25 names on list last Friday though. Please Fallsview...bring back the Omaha.
Love,
roxy

The CNE poker room opens tomorrow at noon. I see it's generated her own thread. See you there.

you can only raise blind pre flop,
which is like a semi straddle,

since if it is called around to you,
you can not re raise yourself,
you do not have the option,

Exactly, so there is no live straddle.

Thus that guy is a moron, as he claims to be a regular live player in Ontario.

If he hasn't figured out that he can't live straddle yet, then he's hopeless and deserving of the dealer's sass mouth.

Ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer.

Update for Brantford: They just started (from Tuesday I believe) their BBJ. To win it, Aces over Jacks cracked - both cards must play.

It's paid for by a $1 rake - but from people at the table were saying, it seems the highest limit (20/40? I have no idea...) won't have to pay the $1, but watch them drop down to a limit that is eligible for the BBJ once it goes high enough.

how does 2/5 limit work in terms of betting rounds?

sb= 1 bb = 2 then raise is in multiples of 2 for preflop and flop betting rounds and multiples of 5 for the last two rounds?

Is the "no electronics" (iPods) an OLG thing as well? Have yet to find a room in ON that allows it. Even headphones not plugged into anything (Bose noise cancelling) seem to be a no-no from my inquiries.

As for headphones/electronics: it's been said before, they're completely anal about it in any room I've been to in Ontario. If you want to answer your phone at the table, expect to be scolded and don't be surprised if your hand is mucked...

You didn't just go on the tail-end of a long weekend, you went on the first day that the CNE casino opened!

I've never been asked to take my headphones off at Fallsview or Casino Niagara. It's so annoying at the other casinos when I'm card dead and can't listen to music!!

Really? This is where I've played and encountered it most. Was told that it was pointless to take my Bose headphones out of my bag because they were "electronic" even though I had no plan to listen to music, just drown out some background noise to relax a bit.

Just moved back to Ottawa, and it's definitely a positive that PQ casinos allow earphones!

I just saw this on the WebMD website:

July 29, 2010 -- Pull out those earplugs to your iPod if you’re studying for a test or performing a task. And turn off the stereo. What you hear while trying to concentrate can be distracting and impair your ability to memorize and recall information.

That’s the finding of a new study by researchers at the University of Wales Institute, who say they’ve found that listening to music seems to impair task concentration as well as the ability to remember.

Nick Perham, PhD, and colleagues at the Wales Institute in Cardiff signed up 25 people aged 18 to 30 to examine their ability to recall information while listening to various sounds.

They were asked to recall a list of eight consonants in a specific order in a test known as serial recall. They were tested under several different conditions: in a quiet environment, while music was playing that they liked, and while music was playing that they disliked.

They were also tested while a voice repeated the number three or spoke single-digit numbers randomly.

The study participants performed best while in a quiet environment or while listening to a voice repeating the number three over and over -- what the researchers called a steady-state environment.

“The poorer performance of the music and changing-state sounds are due to the acoustical variation within those environments,” Perham says in a news release. “This impairs the ability to recall the order of items, via rehearsal, within the presented list.”

Perham concludes that to reduce the negative effects of background music when recalling information in a specific order, people “should either perform the task in quiet or only listen to music prior to performing the task.

“Listening to music you prefer prior to, rather than at the same time as task performance, does increase performance,” he tells WebMD.

Yeah I believe music distracts you but I want to be distracted from being card dead sometimes!!! If I'm in a hand I'll usually pause the music so I can focus and listen to what opponents are saying/sighing etc....

I know what you mean, but my sense is that there's a lot of information to be picked up when you're not in the hand. It's a time when I can pick up on the conversations around me--or start chatting with the person next to me--in a way that I can't while I'm focusing on my cards.

If it was up to me and I was dick lord of the rule makings I would choose to ban ipods from the tables too because it is annoying how it makes everyone in their own little world. Ipods allow players to play more patiently as well, which is bad for my bottom line.

I'll be at Great Blue Heron playing 5/10 or 10/20 today and through the weekend getting yelled at for wearing my ipod headphones. I'm mid twenties and have big ******ed glasses so come say "hi"

I was walking around Casino Niagara last Monday with my headphones in and listening to Adam and Mike from a few weeks ago.

I've done the same thing at Brantford Casino.

No-one said a word.

As soon as I approached a table in both places however (even if I'm just watching) I've been told to take them out.

I've never tried putting them in AT the table, that will be my experiment for next time

Correct, no electronic devices at the table is province wide thanks to the OLGC.
