But now if they say (on bravo) that its going on like above, or just make up that someone else won - cant the floor just pocket the $?

does sugarhouse post winners or do anything to show real people are actually winning this?
Sugarhouse is on the level. When you win, they have you sign a form and its documented. If the room is busy and there are 25 tables going, its possible someone could beat or tie your high hand at the last second and the floor missed it because they were busy with something else. I see little incentive for them to cheat players out of small amounts of money

Sugarhouse now has a Director of Poker Operations AND a Poker Room manager???

The name looks familiar too. Wasn't he at Hard Rock in Tampa at one time?

I haven't seen it on Bravo or in person during the past few weekends. It seems like there wasn't/isn't yet a critical mass to get it going. (I could be wrong.)

Trip report to Sugar House.

8:30 – Leaving Philadelphia, on my way to Atlantic City. Decide to check out Sugar House.

9:00 – Arrive, see how tight the ramps are in the parking garage. Glad my rental car is a compact. Decide to park on 2nd floor. Once I get inside, I am quite surprised by how nice it is, based on reputation of surrounding neighborhood.

9:15 – Seated at 1/3 game. Notice $2 chip in tray. Confused what they are for until dealer drops one, along with a redbird down the same chute, which means the rake is $7. Get up without playing a hand, and cash out.

9:45 - cross Walt Whitman Bridge, then start thinking I must have missed something, Was the $2 chip for the jackpot even though both chips went to the same place? Is tipping not allowed? Is the bad beat nearing $1 million? Is there some crazy promotion going on? Do they give away $5/hr in comps (which wouldn’t do anything for me)?

11:00 – having already checked into my room. I am dealt my first hand at the Borgata.

I went there with zero expectation the rake would be only $4 /hand or $5/ half hour like at the games I play at the Borgata. If the rake was $6 I probably would have still played since I was already there, even as I cursed myself for not asking what it was when I called to reserve a seat. I don’t understand. There are like 10 other place to play within a tiny bit over an hour drive in all directions. Why would anyone pay $7 to play there?

You drove all the way to Sugar House and then didn't play cause of the $7 drop? That's insanely nitty lol

If you're a pro, this is lol

If your a rec player, this is extremely lol

Playing 1 session of poker that has a little higher take isn't going to kill you and to drive 60 miles+tolls+time, you probably spent more leaving sugarhouse than you would have spent on the additional $1-$2 of rake

The additional $1 in rake has made the games, especially 1-2 & 1-3 absurdly soft as the pros go to PARX and AC now

How much in tolls and gas is it from Philly to AC and back? Like $20?

I'm obviously not a pro sitting at a 1/3 table.

It was actually a $3 difference unless I missed something.

You are correct the difference in rake of probably less than $10/hr for the 3.5 hours I played at the Borgata would not have killed me. Paying $20-$30 more than I should have for anything on my trip wasn't going to kill me. Doesn't mean I was going to do it if I had a choice.

I was on a trip to AC anyway. There only extra cost was the time to stop at SugarHouse, which was a sunk cost at that point.

I posted this because I was surprised that given the competition, they can get away with charging this. $7 is what they charge at Harrah's Cherokee three hours away from me. But they have no completion in North Carolina, or any state that borders North Carolina.

$12.50 for tolls if you take Walt Whitman bridge. $3.75 each way on the Expressway + $5 one way on the bridge. 60 miles each way sounds about right for gas.

If you're not a pro, it should matter even less because you're not consistently paying the higher rake

You actually did miss something

The rake at SH is $5

The rake at Borgata is $4

The jackpot drop at SH is $2

The jackpot drop at Borgata is $1

The rake is $1 difference. The overall drop is $2 difference.

The jackpots at Borgata are typically only the BBJ, unless they were running a promo, which idk. The jackpot at SH is instant HH + most days have a HH jackpot.

Idk about anyone else, but I've never even been at a table when a BBJ was hit, so that money is gone in my mind, at least I have a chance to win a HH

For the record, the top 2 places of hours logged in my tracker are Borgata and SH

Correct on all points. I'm at Sugarhouse 1-3 weekends a month on a normal month and the edge any halfway decent player will have in these games far exceeds the cost of the extra rake.

What a brutal trip report. And a waste of gas. I travel from AC to Sugarhouse 2 or 3x per week to play in the softest 1-2 and 1-3 games on the east coast. Any good player the extra $1 doesnt mean a thing. I'll gladly pay it to sit in these games.

OK. This makes more sense. Had I thought about this possibility before I left, instead of after I crossed the bridge, I'm sure I would have asked, and then played there a while before I drove to AC. I can swear I thought they put all $7 down the same chute though. Did I see that correctly? If so, I wonder how they divide the drop into rake and jackpot.
