I have holidays (yeah some of us have day jobs) over Christmas and New Years but looks like all the relatively cheap accommodation is gone. Last two times I've been to Sydney I stayed in Pyrmont, such a convenient location. Hoping to be up there from Dec 28.

I reckon it'll be a scorcher this new year's in Sydney. Good luck finding some value accommodation.

HI I play at Star a bit and have just come back from Crown in Melbourne

Couple of questions about the Star
currently they spread
1/2 80-200 10% + $5p/h
3/3 200-300 10% + $5p/h
5/5 200-500 10% + $10p/h

Are they ripping us off with same amount blinds? (lol)
How do you adjust? ie you have to pay the same amount from the worst position should you play more hands or treat it as a sunk cost and fold as if it was a real small blind

I'm planning to complain about the p/h charge every chance I get (compare it to melb etc) saw another post where he emailed about the charges. Do you think it's worth complaining about? will anything get done? I reckon if you don't say anything then you should shut up and eat ****. reckon players could get it rescinded? worth a shot?

Thanks for any feedback

From my experience at 3/3:

- You'll play more hands in the SB simply because you are in any limped pot
- Standard PFRs are at least 5-6x anyway, so the extra SB invested won't change the odds enough to require any adjustment

yeah, I never notice the difference except I probably see a few more cheap flops

no point complaining about the rake btw to the earlier poster - they're the only show in town.

I play there regularly but really believe it's a ****ty poker room for such a big city.

long wait lists
****ty rules
some grumpy dealers - some good ones too but some really grumpy ones

My big issue is the rules and the way they are enforced. They will let someone discuss the hand with a second player in the hand multi-way without batting an eyelid but will be rule nits over some obscure star city house rule that makes no sense and exists nowhere else. My "favourite" rule is the one where if you mistake the bet amount you are held to the full amount even if it is a massive misunderstanding. E.g. EP leads out for $10, someone in MP that you cannot see nor hear (and being Star city there is no enforcement of keeping your card visible nor large denominations on top) mumbles something, you call $10 then dealer jumps up "ahaaa, the bet is $300 and you have to call!" because apparently MP has hidden cards somewhere and a couple of blacks hidden under his stack and went all in. There are others that escape me now but a lot of these house rules tend to favour angleshooters rather than honest play. Also mucks are very magical at star - anything just brushes the muck and hand is dead regardless of what happened. But openly colluding mid hand is OK - and before any staff jumps up and down I have had personal instances where I had to ask the dealer to caution a player because he was discussing how to play the hand against me with a third player in the hand. Dealer was not going to do anything until I asked him to.

obviously my game is not what it used to be but how is the 5/5 at star? what kind of hourly do the regs make here?

I play probably once every 3 weeks or so but I can tell you the 5/5 is one of the juiciest games I've ever seen (and I've been to Vegas, Europe and Macau). The rake is so bad that it ups the aggression factor and rewards anyone with patience - nits seem to clean up in these games.

I can't comment on what the regs make but a large portion of them don't seem to play that well. The few winning ones I see must be pulling in close to $60 an hr I'd imagine.

ive heard that $55/hr for a sample of 800hrs over 6 months is made by couple of good regs. pity about rake/time charge

games vary at 5-5 but can be good. wouldnt take much to learn regs and their different styles and adjust and crush

5-5 runs most of the time. 5-10 is a little more irregular. most likely during peak times, eg nights and later in the week, weekends

Thanks.

Is it free parking for poker players at The Star, like it is for Crown Melbourne? (I know it's extremely expensive otherwise, either on-site or off-site parking)

1/2 (80-200)
3/3 (200-300)
5/5 (200-500)
And higher but I'm not sure about BI's cos I never play those games.

Don't play PLO there either but I know the 1/2 games get pretty good

i know the 1/2 plo runs everyday but it usually has a straddle i think so its a 1/2/5 game uncapped buyin

5/10/20 plo runs almost daily, 25/25 plo runs couple times a week at least.

problem is not finding players who'll play those games, but good supervisors who will snap-start them as opposed to making everyone wait 3 hours for no reason until half the list have gone home.

I've played 200plo a couple of times there and play online quite a bit. It is super soft and it plays deep/fun. Was getting chips once and a reggish lady was in front of me getting 3k worth for the 200plo game. Played pretty nuts as well when I played, everyone loves to gamble.

That has been their problem on non 1/2 or 5/5 NLHE games for years now. The limit games died because some supervisors just refused to spread a limit game during the day even if there was a waiting list 20+ long.

Not too sure I like the poker pit move from the northern end to the southern end myself. Seems really cold at times in the new spot.

And the 25/50 PLO is a big game (well for me!) Must have counted well over 65K on the table the other night with one young Asian guy having at least 20k in front of him.

(huge contrast to the 1/2 Texas table I was on )

Haha wow, the players at 1/2$ are really bad. Two guys went aipf with 22 and 55, both over 100bb+.

Another one got 3betted and struggled for like 5minutes before calling and flipping over KQo?

Have only been there 3 times but woow. What days is the best to go there? I was there friday, sick value but ran bad (-100$). I was there saturday, ok value but ran break even. And then I was there on Tuesday, ran hot and won 700$ in 1hour value was okey.

Is fridays best?
