this kind of talk is stupid

lots of people read these threads. Part of the reasons star games are beatable is because a lot of the overseas grinders assume this sort of rake is unbeatable plus the high cost of living in Sydney.
Put a few euro grinders (that have infested Vegas and LA games) on each 2/3 table and these insanely raked games will quickly become unbeatable for more then a miniscule amount.

I am not better than you were 2 years ago :-(

You were playing mainly home games which ups the hands per hour by probably 50% vs lol, QLD Casinos. Presumably, this increases the BB's per hour?

I'm sure the 2019 Meale wouldn't be playing these stakes today simply because you could earn much more playing higher.

Now that I think about it, I guess the real question I would like to be able to answer is at what point does moving up become more profitable than staying down? For example, moving from top 2 in a stake at any table to at least 6th best at a higher stake?

Or is some hybrid of playing 2 stakes simultaneously the best approach depending on the conditions in the card room you play at? For example, play the stake where I consider myself at least top 3 in the line-up that is playing at the moment (where I am, there is only one table of higher stakes with mostly the same money sitting).

Problem for me was 5/5 was the biggest game in Qld really. The 2/3 vs 2/5/10 at star is obviously going to be a very big jump for most but if you're doing really well at the 2/3 I imagine you'd make more per hour at 2/5/10 so long as you practiced Bare minimum table selection. The whales at 2510 aren't usually way better than the whales at 2/3. Same applies to Melbourne I guess.

My hourly playing homegames was actually pretty similar to casino stuff. But hard to say with only the 2k hour sample.

Yesterday my class was cancelled and decided why not just play at the casino. I rock up and there was no 1/3 plo as it was 11am. So I decided to sign up for 5/5 plo, little did I know that it was mandatory straddle so now its 5/5/10. These guys are crazy after 10 mins they get bored and bump it up to 5/5/10/20 and Im just sitting there with my short stack of 500 dollars lol. Im already playing the highest stake I have ever played but managed to get aces twice and effectively double up twice. From my first experience these games are juicy, no one folds to 3 bets or 4bets which is lovely and I managed to pull a decent stack.

Rake is 10% capped at $10, unless pot is > $150, in which case it’s $15. So it’s actually capped at $15, I have no idea why they do it this convoluted way.

No waitresses until afternoon, on saturdays. Help yourself water plus coffee and tea if waitresses aren’t serving yet.

Royal flush jackpot is new.

Don’t sit on my left if I see you there.

had the opportunity to play here last night. All in all I'd give it great rating All the PLO you want . 2/3 NLH with 500max.

- Yes rake is gross from US standards but not that out of line from Euro or Asia standards.

- Sample size of 7 or 8dealers. All top notch. Kept game moving, polite and friendly but never tried to be the center of attention . They deal out of shoe which speedsup game, because ALL dealers can deal as fast as fastest dealers who pitch. Very comfortable tables and chairs.

- Super organized Staff/Brush/Cage (but Cage will only color up, have to go to main cage to cash out). Even while they were in midst of WSOPC very calm and under control.

- Only 18 years old to enter casino here so added a new type of player. Overall play was like anywhere else in the world. Mix of very good players, good players, avg players and bad players.

4.5 Stars (dinged for rake)

Any chance someone could shed some light on the best time to come during the week, as I’ve been a few times on a Monday and Wednesday around 10am and find myself on a list for two hours. People say that the new dealers clock on at 12pm but the list still seems long. Now that uni is done gonna be playing a lot more but def don’t want to be waiting for ages.

New dealers are mainly at12 and 4 during the day. (I think)

Some days are better than others - generally Mon and Weds afternoons are busier because there’s mtts those evenings and so Tues and Thurs have shorter lists.

Wsop has meant things are busier the past month but the last event is today

Thanks! Heading in now to try and get on the list before 12 when the dealers get on. Hopefully won’t have to wait more than 2 hours!

Has anyone gone in to the star recently - I know poker isn't up and running but am wondering what the place is like these days.

Is it free roam for all visitors or is it an invite-only situation like Crown Melbourne?

Also are there any cash games about that are non-home games?

Haven't been because I only poker, but I hear you queue up, tell security which area of the casino you are going to and are supposed to stay in that section and you go in.

Cash games in NSW are either in the Star or some type of home game, those are the only options. Star provides the only legal cash game in NSW, well I guess if you play poker for money with friends and don't rake the pot it's either legal or no-one cares, but otherwise it's illegal. There are numerous home games in Sydney now.

I know of close to 10 in Sydney and I haven’t gone looking for any.

With the exception of 2, they’re raking for profit (at casino prices) and so therefore are worth considering seriously before going to because your money is at risk from both the cops and thieves....as well as other players

not a huge amount. I would describe myself as a semi reg, or a keen rec. I average about 400 hours a year

You?

Star have laid off their entire poker staff so it’s not a simple or quick matter for them to re-open the poker room
