not to mention how much starcity is butchering the place with the renovations to accomodate more slot machines/bacarat tables or somthing, feels more like a RSL club now imo. Pretty sure they don't have SNGs

LOL at anyone thinking poker can compete with slots.

10 banks of slots > 10 poker tables by thousands per day in Aus.

not saying a poker room can compete with slots, but it's kind of ridiculous that they've plastered every corner with slot machines most of which are not being played anyway. well damn i miss the old poker area , right in front of ur face as soon as you got up the escalator with 2 bars, food, balcony, toilets all within 5m. The new room sucks **** imo , anyone know if its here to stay? i remember hearing it was only temporary when it was first built.

Star city in Sydney runs a P/L Omaha high $1/2$ game Fri and Sat nights, (Sat is best) kicks of about 2100hours but most players just play N/L holdem until table is ready, they like to fill as many of those as possible as the casino makes more money on those i suppose. Buy in is between $100 and $300. They also run a $5/$5 PLO Omaha game that has a $500 buy in that the pros play, the $1/2$ game is soft I suppose, anyhow I find I can come out ahead most times which is more than I can say for my N/L Holdem play. Very good game. Commission is capped at 10% or $10 and there is a $5 hourly timecharge

What's the traffic like on a friday night? I'm heading there around 10pm with a couple of friends. Am I staring down the barrel of a 2 hour wait?

10pm will be fine they will be keeping tables open

but i think getting there around midnight-1am could be bad because they might be trying to close some tables

I am heading down to Sydney for a couple months and was hoping someone could provide a little more detail with respect to games at Star City.

From what I can tell from this thread, there is a 1/2 and 2/5 game (200 max buy in and 500 (?) for the 2/5). Do they have a 5/5 or 5/10 game? Do the 2/5 games run every day/night? I'm just trying to get an idea of what games there are so I can get a sense of how much Aus Dollars I should bring.

Impressed: From memory they have 1-2 (200 max), 2-5 (500 max), 5-10 (not sure about 5-5 i know they had it but not sure if now) NL.

The games run every day, when i've been there on friday night or on the weekend all the games were running. Usually a few tables of the higher limits and lots of tables of 1-2.

1-2 200 max 5-5 500 max 5-10-(20) 2000 max 10-20 5000 max

1-2 5-5 runs pretty much 24/7
5-10 runs most evenings
10-20 runs thu-sat usually

Might drop in tomorrow to see what the 1-2 games are like - always thought the 5-5 $200 concept was nonsensical so good to see they have corrected that. I take it that the rakes are still obscene?

As with someone above, miss the old room. Was always good for some eye candy on a Fri or Sat night playing the good ol' 10/20 LHE - usually right in front of the bar.

Considering a splash this or following Thursday evening. Generally like to sit down around 5:30pm ish to feed on the suits dusting off a few buy-ins after a tough day on the golf course.

Anyone interested in meeting up and talking poker?

1/2 starts at 10am on most weekdays and starts with mostly regulars but enough idiot players to make money off. i usually double up within an hour or so. Look for the older asian players. theyre hopeless

1/2 is running 24x7 from what I can see, always been at least 2 tables running at 10am when I have arrived the past few weeks.

*puts hand up*

Not sure how many of the SC regs are 2+2'ers though. Based on the skill level there I'm guessing you could count them on one hand. Having said that, I'm sure I will be surprised.

I assume they've still got the ridiculous time charge. I've played there a few times in the past but despite the standard of play being terrible I doubt I was beating the rake.

Gotta love monopolies.

A big thumbs down to the drink girls in the poker room. Some (the less popular ones) are good, fast and get the job done with a smile. The popular ones either forget the order and instead concentrate on their favourite players or "accidentally" drop the change on the floor and walk off when you don't let them keep it all as a tip.

To avoid this nonsense did a bit of walking around to find drinks and I discovered that as a member I can get a large coffee in the food court for $1.50 where it costs $3.50 in the poker room for a small coffee. Problem solved.
