I don’t actually know as they don’t tell you the reason. But me and the boys think it was the following. We got pretty fun drunk and had been partying with a bit of Charlie Chaplin beforehand in a few pubs . One of the boys had a bit in his pocket. We didn’t even notice until we left several hours later that he didn’t have it on him as we left casino. We think it must’ve fell out of his pocket at the Poker table. Nothing was said that night to us. We were all sitting together also so they probably thought it could of been any of us. I didn’t know until about a week later when my card swiped red and suddenly security and the cops were escorting me out. And then I get letter saying I’m banned for a year. Stupid by us. I’ve apologized to the staff as been going there most days for about 10 years and never had any issues but they said wait 12 months and they will review. Fair enough by them I guess as we were at fault. Don’t do dumb ****!

Man that's pretty rough that they don't even tell you the reason though. At least they didn't call the cops when they found the cocoa I guess..

To everyone else: will the cash game action be better than normal with the WSOP being in town guys and will the wait lists be completely ****ed cause of all the dealers being in use for the tournament?

I was there today and they actually stopped all cash games for an hour and a bit to seat and get the first flight happening..

So you’re saying that some coke fell out of your friend’s pocket and you got banned for 12 months? And they haven’t given you a reason?

Hmmmm

If they really haven’t given you a reason you should go to the Ombudsman who is based at Star. They are very keen to stay on the right side of the ombudsman because their license depends on it - you will get the reason why you’re banned and the chance to appeal

Btw, you don’t have a 12 month ban. You have a minimum 12 month ban and you will need to reapply for membership afterwards and that isn’t a fait accompli

In other news - played the $5k yesterday and thought the structure was really ****. Was really turbo-ish starting with 100bb stacks and antes in level 1 and then the antes were really aggressive the entire time. I satellited in and it still amazes me to think there are 200 + people prepares to wager 5k on a poker tournament on an average Weds in December. The tournament poker economy is strong here

Opening Event was similar turbo structure, but you expect that from a $500 event albeit when I busted OE in about 80th, the average stack was 14bb - day 2 of that event is a lottery

Can’t wait for the ME this weekend. Squirty, are you playing on Sat?

Speaking of turbos - cashed in the turbo. Playing 6max this weekend and can only play flight 4 of the main. Hopefully bust out of that before the cash so I can play the monster

Flight 4 will be the second softest I’d have thought. I may play it if I don’t get through on Sat.

No way I can play 6 max - I’ve played Fri, Sat, Tues, Weds so far and then will be all day Sat at ME. My wife is already salty !

Hope to be all day don't you mean ?

Why second softest?

All the pros will play every flight. Most should be through by then

My pov is that the Sat flight will attract the maximum number of rec players because they work during the week and then the second Fri will attract the rest who want to play a flight directly next to Day 2 and yes, more of the pros will have got through by then. That table you and I sat on last year was pretty incredible for a 2k. Mind you, my 5k table yesterday started out brillIantly too with 3 other decent recs (plus me who I would classify like that), 3 bad whaley recs and only a couple of pros. 6 hours later it was completely different!

‘Hope to be all day’ - if I bust the ME I’ll play cash til bedtime!

yeah true about the minimum of 12 month with no guarantee of reentry - i asked the floor manager when my card flashed red and he said this is pretty serious and then i was led away and a letter sent out explainign the violation of a code xxx which constitutes illegal activity so i can only assume its because of that.

I'm not complaining - I got banned fair and square by being an idiot and putting myself in that situation in the first place. Just miss the craic by not being able to go. Been going there 10 years without doing stupid **** but then one night undoes it all. I'll state my case next year and hope they are lenient enough.

But what did you do that was stupid? You were with a guy who dropped some coke? That isn’t bannable - were you and he passing it between you after you had some or sth?

Bad series for me - I won a ticket for 5 k and a ME but busted those and an additional ME that I bought in for and only cashed the Opener for 1300 or sth.

Makes me both happy and sad that two of the 3 left in the ME are ok to below ok regs

Last night I played omaha cash for the first time at the star and can I just say these guys are clueless (not that Im complaining haha). The lack of understanding they have for the game is tremendous, one thing I noticed is how poorly their hand selection is preflop, they are way too loose and i can help but laugh when they complain when they get beat in the hand. I mean Im not even joking a guy played 9992 with hes reasoning being "I was feeling lucky". I ran a sim and calculated he only had 2 percent chance to win the the pot 4 ways and he hes set lmao. The strength of their hands is quite evident from the size of their bets. I just wish live poker wasnt so slow.

I once saw one of the whales on the big table get 11k in pre with KKK3 with a flush draw. He held against AQJ10 ds and the whole table erupted into huge cheers

That’s way above some of the plays that go on there! Incredibly fun and frustrating in equal measure. Still love it

Played only my second session of plo at the star last night, I brought only 400 dollars (two buy ins of 200 each). I proceeded to get dwindled down to 100 dollars and lost an all in twice multiway. My biggest problem was calling marginal hands preflop multiway and slowly losing my stack. I noticed players love to build pots preflop but tighten up considerably on the flop. I played for 6 hours and did not see one bluff, it was always straight vs flush or full house vs full house. It is very hard to play shortstack plo at the star as the only hands viable to 3 bet preflop are suited aces and kings in my opinion as no one is folding pre to a shortstack. With this in mind I decided to give it one more shot at the tables with a 300 dollar buy in. I made one small adjustment of playing slightly tighter and it started to pay off instantly. I did not need to play my opponents, all I did was play abc poker and played my cards. I ended up with a stack of 1000, shame I couldnt stay longer but I couldnt miss the last train at central.

Short stack plo is the best, just pot it with aces to bloat the spr and get it in. You can also take +EV flops when closing the action pre, make the nuts, and stick it in.

yeah short stacking can be good, I just dont like how there is an increase in variance involved as there isnt much fold equity to many players at the star

That's a good thing if you can take advantage of it. We can reduce variance by buying in short too. When everyone's 1k+ deep, the dynamic will change a bit but imo still no point to 3betting light in most casino lineups.
