they generally have a 5/10 interest list but the game never runs

the biggest NLHE game they offer is 500-2000 5/10 blinds

runs everyday but only a single table.

the limits they offer are

1/2 80-100
5-5 200min/max
5-5 200-500 ( multiple tables running)
5-10 200-2000 ( single table)

they also have a 5-5 PLO game with no max buy in

the new room is upstairs and i enjoy it.
the drink service is lacking though.

I hate the new room. Feels like they took a conference room, squeezed a heap of poker tables in and called it a poker room. Funnily enough that's pretty much exactly what they did. No atmosphere. Half the dealers are good and half appear to have no training at all. Unlike downstairs I can't stand up and just walk over to a nearby bar, have to rely on drink service which ranges from good sometimes to non-existent others (not the waitresses fault - sometimes there is one to service the entire room). No more free coffee. No more food vouchers for playing >4 hours. Can't just walk out on the balcony after a bad beat to relieve tilt. Rake is still abysmally high. Room hates LHE with a passion. Cards now used have smaller numbers / suits on them.

Nope, don't like it, would rather play online. Keen to head down to Crown though, now that is a true world class poker room.

They gave out food vouchers for > 4 hours of play? Damn that's a heap of rake back I missed out on. Any other benefits (other than free parking > 1 hour) I should know about? I figured this temporary room would of at least been an upgrade from the old spot but it doesn't sound too good so far.

This +100000

I couldn't agree more. The room layout is just horrible, atmosphere sucks big time. Dont mind the dealers, most of them are ok. But players are not allowed to use headphones which is another dissapointing downside.

The rake + time charge is ridiculous. At least make the buy ins 100bbs deep. Until they change the buy in amount, better off playing online really. OMG, why cant they learn from Crown. I live 5 minutes away from Star City and CBF going anymore.

They def did for silver members, not sure otherwise. As for other benifits - you are joking right? It appears that to pay for the renovations they have stripped away anything that could remotely be considered a benefit.

That's why I was so surprised to hear they even gave out food vouchers. Have they stripped the rule that you can be served food to your table but cannot eat it there? I figured it was only a matter of time before that stupidity was fixed, hope I'm right.

This reminds me of a time when I was about 16 hours into a marathon session, I had stepped away from the table to grab a pizza. Since it was about 8am Sun morning there were some senior management walking around. One of them took the time to politely stop and tell me while I was eating on the rail "you better not touch MY cards with your dirty hands". Yep - that sums up the attitude they have to their patrons. And somehow (all above board I am sure) they convinced the state government not to allow a second casino into NSW.

Same as Victoria

Momentum is growing for a second Casino licence and it looks like the Government is going to send it deep into the bush to protect Crown

As a gaming venue Crown does fairly well to be honest, the high limit baccarat doesnt take tax its just 50/50 where a tie is a standoff, all the other basics are the same except that rediculous sports blackjack that pays 6 to 5, but thats easily avoidable

Its just a shame the poker rake is so high and strangely structured, never the less a quality poker room and great dealers/staff/equipment

Depends on limits

1/2 is $80 Max Buy-In, 10% capped at $15
2/3 is $200 Max Buy-In, 10% capped at $6 with $5 hourly time charge

Never played the 2/5 before, can someone explain the rake for that if they've played? And max-buy in?

Come visit Sydney, you will never complain about the rake in Crown again

From what I hear Canberra has the best rake in the country though have never had a chance to play there.

Sigh now we can't squeeze out those aces preflop lol. Does the 200-500 5/5 still have the same rake structure of 10% $10 cap + $10 time charge? From what I saw stacks get pretty deep on those tables, it seems like the least busto rake structure out of the regular tables, thoughts? I think I remember seeing $25 time charge for the 5/10 500-1000(2000? not sure) game but how often do those games run?

at first i hated the bacarrat cards but now i miss them i use to loove cupping them in my hand and just sqqquuueezing them.
or look at one card early and if its an Ace sqqquuuuueze out second card when action got to me.

5/10 500-1000 hardly ever runs anymore maybe some weekends
5/10 500-2000 runs everyday single table but not sure rake never played it. but keep in mind that 5/10 generally always has a struggle thrown in there so its like a 5/10/50 game lol
i can find out tonight about rake and charge and repost update.

the 200-500 5-5 is 10% rake $10 max with $10 time charge
but to be honest i just realised i have not had a bad 200-500 game this month. i have not had a losing session on a 200-500 table this month yet lol
their generally always one or two 2knl players playing that table while waiting for a seat for the bigger game theres a few that are just amazing value lol $500 pre with 67s is np or 1k for a gut shot wee is standard

Hahaha good to see things haven't changed. The best part is when you rarely find yourself in a game that probably isn't worth the rake and charge you can simply move to any other table and it's a near guarantee it will be good. Probably the best (and only) thing about it being the only casino in the state, the fish will always be there. You putting in some decent volume there?

the 1/2 game at Star is now a 200 buy in which makes it a deeper, better game. standard of play is still variable. I've found Saturday afternoon can be brilliant, with day tripping pensioners etc.

weekday afternoons are full of regs and far tougher. weekend evenings, it's worth changing tables because the variance is stunning sometimes. plenty of drunk fish

2/5 table very loose and suits a patient TAG.

wait time is normally OK for 1/2 but often there aren't enough 2/5 spots

not too sure about SNGs

is it worth playing 1/2 at star city if we can buy in for 100bb? Or is the rake still too obscene?
Star City Hotel & Casino (Sydney, Australia) Quote

rake is $5ph table charge and then 10% of pots max of $8.

100BB still goes pretty quickly with 4+ limpers and callers on every flop. Nobody likes to fold. I normally take 2 or 3 buy ins for add ons.
