Hi All

I'm getting back into the live poker scene - what's the standard and pace of play like at the Star City tourneys? Considering the first Sydney champs event and regular wed events.

I'm used to cash live and online 6max but from the dark ages (pre BF).

Thanks
JP

So.... being Sat I'm guessing a few of you are out there...

New NLHE steaks, are they good or are they whack?

Same as anywhere. Plenty of donks and reasonable players. Opening event day 1 can be fairly wild depending on table draw considering it's a small stakes re-entry.

Deep stacks are amazing but not waiting lists are ridiculous. Past two days had to wait 1.5hrs for seat

Midday is a good time to show as they change shifts and a bunch of dealers arrive, so they tend to set up new tables as needed then. Saturday afternoon/evening the wait can get absurd.

Yeah today was fine, and games a heap better too

Looks like back to the live games it is. Another advantage of new steaks is that dealers can be allocated much more efficiently

Just played a 2/3 session yesterday. Yeah it's good being deep but it was pretty uneventful.

The 2/5 game plays much bigger. 100bb is deep for a min buy-in though it didn't look like anyone bought in full. I heard a few 2/5 regs moved down to 2/3 cos stacks are too big.

I don't know though, this was my first session back in a month.

Yeah being 100bb min was awesome, when I sat in the afternoon about half of them bought in max. Felt good being 500bb deep.vs a weaker player by night time

Ok, thanks. GL to everyone playing in the event.

Also it was heartening to see that overall the cash games are still really good, and is nice to be able to buy in relatively deep.

How often does 5/10 run (has it run yet?).

I've now been here three times since leaving full time poker in mid 2014 and each time I've been the poker room has been somewhere else. Now moved to a delightful area, with my table right next to the blistering cold outdoor area with fresh air from the smokers outside.

Play still terrible as ever but kinda hate everything about live poker at this point :\

It's not that bad. I remember when they had a temporary poker room in what was essentially an elevated dungeon with no windows and redic heat. We have a view now.

Haha yeah that was atrocious, also had the final table area right above the pokies iirc

Apparently it's moving into the newly refurbished area after this series and apparently it's going to be good.

The worst part about the current poker area is the long ass walk to the toilet! Other than that, I don't mind it at all.

I'm new to Sydney tho, so don't have any previous experience at Star to compare it to.

Best place was where the sports bar now is, before it was constructed. The location itself was meh but there would be so many drunk walk-ins on a Saturday night to make it worthwhile.

This is the correct answer.

But they're moving it anyway, pros will be a) the rumoured bigger tables/9 man format and b) extra room around the tables and of course c) nearer toilets. Cons is the view of dolled-up chicks walking through will be presumably reduced.

I don't think it will ever run. 2/5 now is much bigger than 5/5 was. Even 2/3 had $3k stacks last night.

How big does 2/5 play these days? Sounds like nothing but goodness have come from these changes.
