I`ve been playing for a few years now. I have made several trips to Vegas and played in Korea, Macau and many places in Europe (I am German). So far I am a winning player, but I have never played bigger than 5/10 dollar and never won more than 2 or 3 thousand in a tournament. I am a student and have had a full time job before that, so I never really had the time (or the balls) to focus 100% on poker and actually play 40-50 hours a week.
Since I wont have any real responsibilities (like uni or work) in Australia I see it as an opportunity to put myself to the test. I want to know how good I will actually do, when playing full time.
Is it true, that the Star in Sydney charges an hourly 5 dollars plus 10% of the pot (capped at 10 or 12 dollars). That would be the worst I have ever heard of.
From what I have heard I am mostly interested in playing 3/3 NLHE.
Are the games rather soft at the 1/2, 3/3 and 5/5 tables? Mostly tourists and rich guys who just wanna have a good time? Do they serve free alcohol in OZ casinos like in Vegas (not for me!)? Do you at least get complimentary food and drinks for your time charge?
Is The Crown very different form The Star?
Moreover I will be in Melbourne for the Aussie Millions.
Do they have live satellites for the Main Event at the Crown or is all that only on PokerStars?
I know thats a lot of questions.
I would appreciate your help though =)
Thank you guys.
Yes Star had the worst rake in the civilised world and no you get nothing for free. Add to that the fact that you can't use mobile phones at the table, can't eat at the table, can't top up at the table and the live music on most nights can be deafening and you just have one sensational poker experience.
On the upside however there are loads of fish at all levels of NLHE and I find it hugely profitable at all levels though dont have a significant sample size at 3/3 and 5/5. I don't play PLO but thats very popular there too.
I've only played 5/5 at Crown. Rake is much better...one off $10 seat charge, no rake on pots up to $50, $5 for $50-95 pots and $10 for $100+.
I think there are plenty of live satellites to the AM. I was there last week and they seemed to be running them
