I have not played live for ages and i heard that they added more tables at star city

what limits do they have now?
are the games still only 40BB max buy in?

rake to high to bother going?

any thoughts about games there appreciated (:

thanks in advance

they have the:
- 1/2 - 80-100 buy in, so you're still buying 50bb max, pretty annoying imo. but this is mostly what I play. Massive range of players, usually not a very tough game, although I've noticed that the skill level has improved a f over the last 12months

- 5/5 200 fixed buy in, as well as the 200-500 buy in. 200-500 is pretty tough, although the 200 game is pretty much the same as 80 minus the absolute novices.

I'm not sure about the higher buy ins.

the rake is pretty terrible at the low limits - on the 1/2, it's 10% capped at $8 plus the $5 per hour table fee. I think the rake for the 5/5 games are also 10% i think it's capped at $10, with a table fee of $1 per hand

hope that helps

5/5 games are 10% capped at $10 with a $5 time charge for the 200 and $10 time charge for the 2-5. No table fee of $1 per hand anymore.

I've only played the 200-500 game a handful of times but calling it "pretty tough" is hilarious. Last time I played, the table literally did not go half an orbit (in a three hour session) without at least one person having to rebuy. In my experience it's very similar in skill level to the 1/2 games.

fair enough I have only played it a couple of times and the average skill of the players was higher than that of the 80 and 200. In my experience though there is such a wide mix of players throughout all the limits, I have played on 80 tables full of thinking players of reasonable skill level. similarly I have played 200 which was very soft.

I have played at crown a couple of times, and I agree - it has a better layout, game structures than star city. Admittedly, the game structures at SC is one of the reasons I don't play much anymore... that said, I still have fun when I go

The structure is really annoying at Star City.

They should remove the 5-5 $200 max, and instead, increase the $1/2 to a $100-200 buy in while still having a $200-500. Lets be honest, who wants to play for 40BB?

The monumental rake and time charge combination is always a massive problem though.

haha.

But if they make it a 100BB buy in game it would make the game beatable rake/time charge wise
Star City Hotel & Casino (Sydney, Australia) Quote

They shouldnt care if the game is beatable. If they increased the buyin it wouldnt
hurt them in terms of rake, and it would bring out a lot more players around
sydney who dont want to play there because its a joke. More players = more money in rake.

Star city poker doesnt give a **** about their players, and until they change their attitude I'm not going back.

THIS

thats why i havent played there in almost a year
its not just the rake thats irritating
-was the 4 hour queues
-40BB game woooo -.-
-time charge + rake
-some muppet dealers and stupid rules being enforced like no headphones & people might disagree with me but when they stop action to argue about stupid stupid things like string betting when its clearly not intentional and its only a 5BB pot

-having to catch cab there and cab back + food & drinks + rake
to much for me
im only rolled for 200nl so not worth going for 40BB game =/

omg star city why do you have to suck soooooooo bad

Sounds like the worst room in the world, yet the 4 hour queues. Not much incentive to change.

The problem is it's the only casino in the state so they can do whatever they want. I can't wait until they get some competition. The place is run with the attitude that if they can take a buck from you they will. Here's an example.

5/5 PLO game which is pretty much only played by regs. $30/hr time charge, no rake. So time charge comes around and 6 of us pay the $30. The money is put in the tray and then a couple guys decide they're done for the night so the game breaks up before a hand is dealt. Shouldn't be a big deal to give us the $30 back, right? Wrong. Huge deal. At first they won't because "once money is put in the tray it can't be taken out" (verbatim from the floor). We complain and the floor calls the higher up and they won't concede. After 15 minutes of us complaining they finally give us back the time charge and tell us it's a one-time thing and we should be thankful we got it back. Not only do we get treated like second-class citizens (keep in mind these are regs who are there contributing to time charge and rake daily) but when they finally do the right thing after wasting 15 minutes of everyone's time we're made to feel like they're doing us a huge favor.

Had a case where we were charged time charge twice on a 200 table. Dealer charged us before he left, next dealer charged us again. Floor said no, you didnt pay the first time, then went upstairs after we complained (and I got a nice caution from the floor for my troubles when I insisted they go to the cameras). Upstairs after "reviewing the cameras" said we didn't pay. As much as I think we are overcharged at SC I have never tried cheating the room and this was no different and the table was quite unanimous that we had been charged the time charge. In light of this I think you are extremely lucky you got your money back - well done!

As for the new poker room - it's the old area with maybe 2 or 3 new tables, a relocated front desk and last time I checked no more bar for convenient coffee (table service was non-existent last time I went so it was handy to have the bar nearby). And still no interest in spreading anything except NLHE - PLO sometimes gets up, 5/10 is about the only LHE ever run these days with the day shift pretty much refusing to run a 10/20 unless there are double the number of ppl on the waiting list as needed to start the table (props to the night shift - they usually are great at getting non-NLHE games up).

This is the problem. They bought the license to be the only casino
in new south wales. So no competition = no reason not to treat their customers
like ****.

Yes this place is ****house for cash games.

I only go to play the tournaments now. Theres so many donks on the tables is not funny, the 80-100 and the 200 tables. Even at times the 500 table.

200/500
- I push in 400 bucks on the turn, check raised the flop with top 2 pair. Some donk calls 400 bucks with bottom pair plus gut shot. 7 outa hits on the river to make a 4 carded straight. Geez, 500 bucks down the drain. Must question why these guys are even on a 500 table. Had KK cracked 4 times in a weekend which cost me 1grand. (each time all in preflop or on the flop when I am at least 70% favourite).

You have people talking about hands when there are people yet to act, the old fellas.

They must learn from crown, lower rake better run games. Regular tournaments thursday nights, sundays for $100.

Star city is ****, really wtf is a tournament running at Monday 12pm. I mean people have to work. The Wednesday night one, to take it down you must play from 6pm to at least 3am in the morning (yes I have done it). They dont cater for people that have to work. Sunday tournaments can be 500 bucks or 330 buy in.

At crown at least they have regular sit and gos, 75, 100, 150, 300. Sometimes you feel like playing a sit and go instead of cash games. But star city doesnt have any.

Slam

gotta agree with most of the above comments - my favourite poker room in Aust is Crown, cos the most I've had to wait for a seat was bout 30 minutes

fwiw I work for a supplier where Star City is one of our biggest customers. have had the privilege of seeing their plans for the redevelopment (link to announcement is here

http://www.starcity.com.au/d/Resourc...ment280109.pdf

anyway, the plans look amazzzzing, to the point it will be much better than the existing and much better than Crown (fyi - it will finally get its own cage!!). it will be located not far the existing area - kinda between where it is now, and the fish tank / theatre area. there'll also be much more food places to choose from, and some closer by. problem there doing the redevelopment in stages so am not sure when this will be finished.

now if only they can get the rake right ....

Yeh, pretty cramped, maybe 30 tables?

I went last friday night, only waited 30-45 mins which is great for friday night 9.30

Where you reg for games is out side the room, but for some reason they put the people with the walky talkies in the room, which is annoying as hell if you get sat near it, constantly hearing "2 seats free on table 19" or w.e.

I wasn't there for long (got up to 450 within 30 mins, and my mate busted, so waited another half hour or so then left) so didn't order anything, but seemed to be decent table service.

New tables were nice.
