2/5/10 gets up every night, usually 2 tables on the weekdays and 2-4 on Friday-Sundays. 5/10/20 gets up on the peak days for sure, but Monday-Wednesday not all the time. 5/10/20 usually just 1 table

Just Google for anything cheap in Pyrmont

It's been quite a few years, but I stayed in the Ibis hotel on Darling Harbour. Nice enough place, can't remember how much is cost in AUD. Walked over to Star City, maybe a mile or so?

Just south of the Pyrmont bridge. Seems as if there were a lot of other hotels right in that area. Plus restaurants, bars, etc when you want to get away from the casino.

I prefer apartments with kitchens but the cheapest I can find in the vicinity is $258/night

If that's Australian, it sounds about right. It's an expensive part of the city in an expensive town. If you don't mind a bit of walking you can look a little bit south of Pyrmont too, the area is perfectly safe and nice, you can walk it at any day or night time.

So played in Sydney a few nights this week, in general the games seemed a bit more friendly/jolly/recreational than Melbourne which is good for a change. Also liked the feel of the table/cards/chips.
Love the unlimited free water bottles to take back to the hotel 😂😂

Yeh a shame it's not further out so visitors could get cheaper accommodation
I hear the waiting lists for games are really long, is that true?

Not really. Lots of tables open at 6 every night so get to the room at 5.30 and you’ll be on at 6.10

List was super quick, got on 2/3 immediately, 2/5/10 after about 30 minutes. this was from around 7pm.
Even 1/3PLO was about 45 mins list

‘Reformed’ Star makes final plea to save Sydney casino licence

The Star Entertainment Group has asked a regulatory inquiry to recognise its management bloodletting and operational reforms as part of a last-ditch effort to hold on to its Sydney casino licence, as a new inquiry is called to examine its Queensland businesses.

Any clue if crown Sydney will have poker now that it’s being allowed to operate?

I highly doubt it, and almost certainly not micro or mid stakes. Isn’t it supposed to be a purely high roller casino?

The Barangaroo casino is membership-only, local punters of any status can apply as long as they can prove the source of their funds and pass other background checks. While the minimum table bets under the new licence is not clear, the original 2014 restricted licence for the casino put in place a $30 minimum for baccarat, $20 for black jack and $25 for roulette.

I mean crown Melbourne is virtually membership only these days since you need a players card to hit the poker tables. Plus outside the party pit which barely runs these days minimums aren’t too far off the Sydney numbers

Is that for tournaments or does it apply to cash game also? That would basically mean you can't play as a non-resident foreigner anymore, unless you're willing to suck up a lot of extra rake for the cheque...

EFT wasn't offered on Monday, only cheque. Won $100 in bounties in the tourney and stood at the cashier for 15 mins while they wrote up the cheque. I asked about EFT and they said cheque only. No idea if it's because it was day 1 and they aren't all up to speed yet but cashing in cheques is a pain.

Would really like them to clarify or at least answer questions about it properly.

Pretty much kills deal making in anything with larger top prizes too.

Poker is Australia is close to dead.

Casinos facilitate money laundering and the ones who end up suffering are poker players.

At least the Star runs tournaments. The last tournament run at Crown Casino in Melbourne was back in March 2020.

Covid stopped tournaments. Money laundering and a royal commission prevented tournaments from returning.

It will not close. They'll be fined and have a new management team and move on a few directors. Worst case, they will lose the license and another operator will buy it. Might be a bit more oversight on cash transactions etc. When this was announced yesterday, their share price went up 4.5%. That says it all really.
