Horseshoe Southern Indiana (Elizabeth, IN)

It's been a while since I've played and I want to know what to expect. I'm hoping to play omaha h/l 3/6 and will probably play some 1/2 nl hold'em.

How are the Omaha HL games or better yet do they even run. It's been about 3 years since I've went and the 1/2 holdem games were usually 2-4 regs.

Going next month during the week. Just tryin to find out if it's worth sitting at a table or just play blackjack.

Re: Horseshoe southern indiana

I played there Sunday night, and the action was absolutely ****ing insane! I play semi-professionally 2-3 nights weekly at Hollywood, Indiana Live and Belterra.

The no-limit games (any limit) at Horeshoe are the best. They were so good sunday night that I did'nt leave until Monday around noon, and my game was still going strong!

It's the "roughest" room that I play in, but well worth it.

The action down here is starting to get really good again!!! What do you mean by "rough"? Hopefully there is something that we can do to fix it. Thanks

I play at the shoe every sunday, its always good action the 1-2 is super aggro loose and if you pick your spots you can leave a nice winner (at least in my experience over last couple years). I drive from evansville to go to the shoe if that tells you what I think of the action

Re: Horseshoe southern indiana

I traveled a considerable distance for WSOPC event there in the fall. I have to say that I would NEVER return to that poker room. Here were some of my reasons for this:

1. Played in the HORSE event. The staff did not understand that you change the game every 8 hands in an event such as this. When I asked the lady running the event about it, I was told, "This is the way all WSOP events are handled." I explained that I play in the WSOP HORSE events in Vegas and it is not how it is handled there. She went on to say, "If you don't like it can just leave." About an hour later she came out and announced that they were doing it wrong and would be changing to exactly what I said it should be. I then said, "Hmmm...I wonder where I heard that before?" She then asked if I would like to be thrown out.

2. I am playing 2-5 PLO and when seated I asked the floor person what the min and max buyins were. He said 1K was the max. So, I buyin for 1K. An hour later a player is seated and buys in for 2,500. I called the same floor person over and ask about this. He told me it was 1K when you sat down and it is 2,500 now that he wants to play. Different rules for the regulars is not an appropriate way to run a room.

3. I am playing PLO again...later session....two buddies work together as a team in a hand. I bet pot with a dry ace on the river in a three way pot. This is after the first player had checked. The next player is thinking about calling. He looks over at his friend who had checked. He friend nods to him and shows the he is going to muck. Then he calls with a 9 high flush.

Quickly I say that I understand what has just happened here. Two good ole boys just screwed (not the word I used) the out of towner. One of the two guys immediately gets up and leaves. I have no question what went on there.

So, for all of those reason, no more trips to this poker room for me. If you decide to go to this place, please watch yourself. They will cheat you in every way they can to take care of their regulars in my opinion.

fwiw, i played the midnight tourney, and a little 1/2 this past friday night to saturday morning. I also felt that the floor went out of their way for the players they were chummy with (regs obv) and was downright rude and nasty to anyone he didn't recgonize.
An example...its my first time in the room and I sign up at the cashier for the tourney. I then get my card and walk over to the floor and ask very politely "Excuse me, can you point me to table eighteen." He said "second table" and made a general move with his arm to the right side of the room. I said " I'm sorry which row?" He says very rudely and without looking up "I pointed to it, its over there, just go look on the table for the number." Never once did the floor look up at me and treated me as a nuisance rather than a paying customer.

However, the action was GREAT, so I will defenitly be back to play.

Re: Horseshoe southern indiana

I've been there a few times. When the guy (IDK his name) is running the room I've never had any issues. When my name is called on the waitlist he tells me where my table is and the table number. I've been there for the WSOPC, and stopped by about two other times. The last time I was there floor had to be called and he made a good quick and fair ruling for the hand I was in. He seemed like a pretty rules oriented guy, and I would have to say he came across as very professional.

I think I know about the woman you are talking about, she definitely did not come across as welcoming unlike the man who has been there most of the time.

Re: Horseshoe southern indiana

Me and some buddies are coming up April 1 -4. Is there any way to get a decent room rate? Right now, Friday and Saturday night are $275+ each night!!! I pay 1/2 that to stay at the f*cking Venetian in Vegas.

Do they do poker rates? If so, how much play to qualify?

Thanks in advance.

I am not saying that this person is lying, because there was some confusion at the start of the HORSE tournament, but I find it very hard to believe that any of the staff talked to him the way that he describes unless he was beligerent in voicing his opinion. The max buy in for a 2-5 game is $1,000 regardless of who you are, but if we bust another 2-5 game and combine tables, we do allow the players from the broken table to come to the game with the chips that they have. The collusion statement is very possible, but we can only fix it if we are alerted to it and I am unsure how that benefits the house.

Re: Horseshoe southern indiana

It is interesting that you do agree with me that the HORSE event was messed up at the beginning of the tournament but still wish to defend the woman who was running the event. Heck, you could even look up which female was running the event and know who it was. However, the management conclusion--your conclusion--is that if a player was abused by a floor person it must have been the player's fault! I guess that explains a great deal.

The buyin question was for a 2-5 Pot Limit Omaha game. Is that game a $1,000 buyin no matter what? There was only one table running of 2-5 PLO the entire weekend....so, I know that it was not a matter of player being moved from another table and bringing the stack with them.

This is not the first time I have ever played poker...I do understand the idea of a stack moving with someone from a broken game. That was not the case here. However, the consistent treatment of the locals very differently than those who were from out of town was the case the entire tournament. It was the worst example of this that I have ever seen.

I have been the Horseshoe Southern Indiana perviously and I was not treated this way on the other two trips. However, with the management being the say it is, I would not return. The follow up post here on Twoplustwo stating that if a player were treated the way I was during the HORSE event, that it must have been the player's fault, only confirms my decision to never return to this room. I can only hope many others do also.

You can only imagine that it is a matter of time till this Circuit Event moves to one of the new Horseshoe's in Ohio...............

I have found that about 95% of the tourneys run in house suck, they just don't know how to run big events and I guess they are to cheap to hire Jimmy, Steve or Charlie to run them.

Based on my trip for the last WSOP circuit event, I would think there are many other Harrah's properties that are much more deserving.

Re: Horseshoe southern indiana

I went down today and played a bit.

I started playing 1/2 and the players there are just not that good. You get the typical old guys who call your raise with any two suited cards or any paint. I was starting to get ticked off when the dealer kept having a conversation with the regulars there and not dealing. I'll go to the casino once or twice a year. That game was so slow so I entered the $50 donkament. The same horrible players played.

I think anyone who plays textbook poker, can profit at this place. It seems like to me when I played at Hollywood the players there were far better.

More: They are remodeling one of the floors with the table games. The pit bosses never took my player's card when I'd buy in for blackjack. I'm not sure what's going on, usually they're all over it.

I play the 2-5 PLO game a couple of times a month. The max buy-in is $2K and has been $2K for a couple of years now. 2-5 NLHE is capped at $1K. The floor clearly thought you were asking about NLHE. The regulars absolutely wouldn't allow ANYONE to buyin for $2,500, especially if it is one of their "Good Ol' Boys."

Sorry for your bad trip, but I think it was an exception and not the rule.

When you get to a certain level of poker, You will start calling raises in position or out with any two SC or complete crap it doesnt matter, You put your oponent on a perticular hand then out play them after the flop if you think the flop did not help him. Stick with your read!
