It's decent enough, and close to the Earth City business park which has a number of hotels. It's a safe area.

Iron Barley for lunch, Sydney Street Cafe for dinner, eat at the bar if solo. Also try Bogart's BBQ in Soulard. Just a few of my favorites.

If you're staying at River City give their steakhouse a try. The beer house has a decent menu as well.

If you're a beer fan, Perennial is in that area and has a limited food menu.

Best BBQ in town is Sugarfire, hands down. A bit out of the way in Olivette, but worth the drive.

I am coming to St. Louis Thursday night and leaving Sunday morning. I have Thursday night free and am hoping to play some poker. I am looking for a NLH cash game of $2/$5 or lower stakes or a tourney of over $150. What casino has the deepest 2/5 game (and if there aren't any what is the biggest 1/2 or 1/3)?

I am picking my buddy up from the airport friday and dropping him off Sunday and going to the US soccer game at Busch stadium Friday night so any suggestions on what part of town I should be looking at hotels would be helpful too.

edit: i saw Ameristar has a $1/$3 with buyins of $100-$300. Am I right to assume that is the biggest $1/$3 in town? Will it be going Thursday night?

I think the heartland poker tour will still be in town at ameristar. Ive seen 5/10 and 2/5 going on a bunch.

Word on the street is River City is closing their poker room. I heard the date they'll close is April 3rd. I guess they're converting their poker room to a bigger baccarat section. Anyone else hear the same?

Indeed. I played some 1/2 at Hollywood on Saturday, and two dealers both said that it was closing.

A couple of months ago, someone at my table at River City mentioned that Baccarat was taking over the space, and the poker room was moving locations. Can you confirm that it is closing for good?

This would not surprise me...not much action in that room at all. Shame, nice location for those in the south that don't want to drive all the way to St. Charles. Might be good for Lumiere though.

RC had tried to bring in more players recently with the 95% payout tournys and a few other things, but I guess it didn't translate into enough add'l non-tourny players.

I was always well treated there too.

Kind of a bummer since it was close to me but consolidating players to fewer rooms has some benefits. And there being 3 rooms in town is probably enough competition to keep rake/comps in balance.

River city was the place to play for its first two years in operation. then the player pool dwindled fast going back out west. But this was bound to happen. I will miss it.

More talks with others does in fact confirm closing. They are giving away all their promotional $$. I believe it's $51K through their iron hands every hour.

Does anyone play in the PLO/BIG O mix at Ameristar? Curious how long this will be able to be sustained (currently 1-2 tables per night for a couple of months). Surely most players aren't rolled for this and will/have started to bust out? Maybe many work outside of poker though so can keep coming back and handle the variance?

Thoughts? Will it still be around by the summer?
