In a gratuitious effort to keep the thread from going to page 10, and as an exucuse to bump...I made my first trip to River City a couple of weeks ago. I hadn't heard many good things about it, but I've gotta say I was pleasantly surprised. They had a $1-$3 game (which I always prefer to $1-$2), and most of the staff I ran into seemed to do their jobs pretty well. It was good to seem some of the staff from the "glory days" of the old Ameristar poker room. The lighting was really good (I understand that when it first opened, the lighting was an issue, and it appears they've corrected this). They were also spreading a Omaha8 game and Seven-Card Stud game. While I don't play Stud (I have little experience at it, not to mention that I'm horrible at the game), I'm still always happy to see a room that is open to spreading all kinds of games. Also, the food selection at the casino looked pretty good--I had one of the best Bacon Cheeseburgers I've had in a long time, and was abel to get it right on the other side of the poker room...massively convenient. Also, most of the waitresses and bartenders were attractive and wore outfits that showed plenty of cleavage...this is always a plus!

Downsides: I hate the "racetrack" tables (particularly with the wood finishes on the racetrack--it's like they're just asking for cards, chips, etc to go flying off the table!). I always feel like I have to position myself like a baseball catcher when the cards hit the air in order to make sure nothing goes flying. And the parking lot has an odd design--seems like it's a demolition derby waiting to happen.

Even so, I've got a positive impression of the place, and I definitely want to check out the Bierhouse the next time I can get some friends free on a weekend. Unfortunately, this is the furthest poker room from me, so I won't be getting down there much without some kind of other excuse to go to that part of the metro area. Harrah's is closer to me and still has some decent traffic (even if it can be a "rock garden" at times), so I can't really justify spending the extra gas to drive to SoCo consistantly to play ar River City. But even so, if I can find an excuse to go down there again at some point, I won't hesitate!

The poker room was used for cash games and was filled to capacity when I was there. There were at least two games at 10-20NL and some 5-5 and 5-10 PLO games that had $100,000 on the table. I saw a couple of $10,000+ pots in that game. Plenty of action for the 1/2 and 2/5 crowd as well....over half for the room with a list waiting. With about 24 tables in the room, I would bet that there was a $1,000,000 on the tables combined.

Not for long. They RAISED the rake to $5 just for the tourney. A very Harrahs thing to do. Got all these out of town NL kids coming into town - they don't know any better - so lets take more of their money.

Have they put the rake back to $4 since the last WSOP-C? I've been playing elsewhere.

So they were raking $5 + $1 for the BBJ?
That is a pretty dick move to pull imo.

You are mostly correct with your statement minus no 10/20 nl games. Biggest game for NL was 5/10 most nights especially weekends had 2 5/10 Nl games.

They did the same thing in Tunica in January for their WSOP circuit event; $5 rake and BBJ was suspended during the 2 week event and yes the rake is back to $4 max + 1 for BBJ.

I usually only play at Lumiere but went down to River City on Thur. with a friend because he has never been there yet. Not much going on in the poker room. Looking forward to the WSOP-C.

We had some fun action downtown tonight. 2-5 NLHE game with one player donating to the rest of the table and in for about 7 or 8 full buy-ins ($1000 max buy) but being a complete arse while doing it and getting pretty sauced. One of the regs is getting frustrated and everyone is getting annoyed but no one is saying anything because he is basically feeding chips to everyone at the game.
The reg that is getting frustrated accidentally bumps the drunk arses chair and apologizes. The drunk arse accuses him of an attack and they decide that it would be best to take their argument outside. I am on the floor and my dual rate tells me that they are going to fight outside. I follow them out and get security and gaming.
They get off property and throw down, sort of, the reg knocks the guy on his a** twice. Gaming and security get to them, both guys kicked out for the night.
The drunk arse has blood all over his shirt and tries to get back into the casino.
There's nothing better than seeing two guys in their 40's or 50's throwing down.
One of the other regs followed them out and shot video on his phone. If he posts on youtube I will post the link here. STL regs should recognize the player.

Video was hilarious. Anybody that is a regular 5/10 NL player will recognize him immediately. One of the nicest guys in the world, wouldn't believe the story if I hadn't seen the video or wasn't at Lumiere until 2am last night. Drunk guy deserved worse but he still got a nice beating.

Would it be a fair assumption that the Lumiere is the best room in STL? Is it worth making the trip out to Ameristar or Harrah's?

Lumiere or Harrahs are the 2 busy rooms. Ameristar is dead. Harrahs has PL Omaha and 20/40 where Lumiere plays 3/6 Limit, 1/3, 2/5 and/or 5/10 NL and Harrahs usually only gets a 2/5 NL game on the weekends but at Lumiere we play 5/10 NL Tuesday & Thursdays and 2/5 NL on weekends at Lumiere. Lumiere this weekend will be busier due to Mizzou/Illinois football game and the Cardinals are in town playing losing baseball.

Btw, what gives with the Konstantin dude at Harrah's? Does he have a bedroom in the back of the place? And where does his endless supply of money come from...I've never seen someone bluff so much with A-rag...Too funny...

If you are referring to the douche Tim Vance, no it's not him.

Actually, I was. But I wouldn't call him a douche. Just a damn tough poker player. What, did he administer you some rough medicine?

In any event, what a hoosier the dude in the jersey must be. Probably doesn't belong in a 5-10 game to begin with.

The guy is not a hoosier and has been playing 5/10 NL for at least 3 years and he didn't start the fight he just finished the fight. Your lack of intelligence and knowledge makes you sound really ignorant.

Yeah, sure. He's a scholar and a gentleman. Actully, he is a decent guy. And his first name begins with the third letter in his country of origin. He's just not as smart as you think. If he was, he wouldn't be fighting like a crip from Cool Valley at 2:00 a.m. on the landing. Or maybe I'm just ignorant. Nobody down there has guns, partners, and certainly city coppers never lock people up. Maybe its just that less ignorant people like me would prefer not to fight like street thugs. Forgive me. And remind me not to rankle you ever again.

I agree with you about the fighting part and most of what you stated but if you knew the situation or story behind the reason I'm pretty sure you would have been out there fighting too. I think your comment about a hoosier and shouldn't be playing 5/10 was a little misguided and that night the game was actually a 2/5 NL Game. I never stated he was a scholar or genius I was just responding to your ignorant comment.

He does own a company but it is not my place to divulge his personal info on the internet so I will refrain from that.
Most people wouldn't even believe he got into an altercation if no evidence existed of an altercation. I have never seen him get that mad or angry and I have been playing with him for the last 5 years and I actually don't condone fighting but I can't say 100% if I was involved I would have not done the same thing. The guy was an out of towner (from Chicago Suburbs) and was way out of line and if he hadn't lost 8K already to the table he would have gotten kicked out of Lumiere hours before this happened.
