Since the poker room at Jai Alai is within the casino itself with no separate entrance, it might be 21, but I'm not sure. In any case, I am 100% certain that you'd be okay at Magic City.

No, there's nothing right downtown or in SoBe. The closest poker rooms will be Magic City and Jai Alai. However, its not much further to a few others such as Gulfstream, Mardi Gras and Calder.

Magic and Jai Alai are fairly similar. Jai Alai is hit or miss and depends if you like action or not. They have uncapped buy ins, straddling from any position, for any amount.. so it can make a 1/2 table play like 5/10 sometimes. Again, it depends on the crowd that is there at that particular time. The 2/5 tables are usually deep stacked as well. so depends what level you play, how much money you got, and how much action you like.

Magic City is great too. the 1/2 tables are also action packed. Ive found some peeps dont have the notion to fold and will chase anything. Usually thats good, but beware the suckout factor. The quality of play at 2/5 is much higher, and a solid player would enjoy this game IMO.

I had an overnight layover in Miami from UK heading to the Caribbean and played Magic City one random midweek evening. One off so not a large sample but the play was pretty terrible. I played 2/5 and there were prob three decent players through the whole evening I played. Lots of short stacks and turnover of players was high, with plenty one or two small buy ins and leave. I have played a week at a time several times at Hard Rock and Isle but each was too far for this visit and the games were much tougher at those venues, but as mentioned before it was just one night but my gut feel was it's lower standard. However the room is a bit of a dump in comparison to the others mentioned, but for a night/8 hours play it's great.

Sup guys

My name is Mike Darling. I am from Upstate NY (Colonie, NY) . I am 23 years old and have been playing professionally for about 3 years. I am moving to Florida on February 12th. I am interested in any input my future Fellow Floridian Poker Players have on the cash game scene.

I really like 2/5 NL with a 500max buy in, but obviously love it when the game is deeper (1000max buy in). Where are the best places to play 2/5 NL ? I hear the West Palm Beach Kennel Club is great but obvioiusly want some more input.

I will be staying in Boca Raton for a while until I find an apartment to rent around that area (or anywhere for that matter). I hear its tough to find nice areas. Any input on good locations to rent an apartment I would appreciate as well

As far as tournaments go, I will obviously be playing the WSOPC stop at West Palm Beach Kennel Club but am interested in playing maybe 2 tournaments a week. Which spots have good nightly tournaments (around 100-300 buy in)?

I will also be taking classes at the Mizrachi Dealing Academy in Hollywood. I have been dealing in "underground" games for around 6 years, and have been told I'm the best in the area. So i figured why not get certified as a fall back plan.

One last thing, If anyone is looking for a roommate i am interested in meeting someone while im down there. I have a couple friends that live there currently but already have living arrangements. I will most likely get a place on my own but wouldnt mind someone to chop living expenses with. Looking to rent a place for around 800-1200 / month. I'm neat, clean, dont mind pets (thinking about maybe getting a dog myself eventually), and am an easy person to live with. Laid back, dont really do much except grind and sleep. Thanks guys. Any Input would be greatly appreciated!

Good luck Mike,
I used to live in NYC for many years, moved here to north miami beach 4 months ago.
There's a lot of action for you to choose from. Since you are in boca check out the isle and coconut creek forst.
Great cash and many mtts going on there with good GTD usually.
Then u can come closer to where I stay at and visit the many casino in broward/dade area.
I'm married so I already have a roommate lol. But good luck with ur search.
Would mind meeting ya sometime as I'm new here also and don't have poker buddys.
I'm no pro or hardly ever play 2/5$ anymore. I play mtt though.
Take care and good luck

I live on SoBE and often drive to the Isle as their daily tourneys are great! So I would def recommend that for Mtt's. 2/5 is alive and healthy in virtually every poker room down here, so just try them out to see what you like. Mostly 500 max buy in everywhere. Sometimes the hard rock or the isle will have deep stack 2/5 tables but not always. Never seen that at another casino. Good luck and welcome to the crazy world of sofla poker.

I'm strictly a cash game player and live a few miles north of you in the mid-Beach area. I usually play at Magic City, Jai Alai, or Gulfstream and have never bothered to drive up to the Isle. Is there any reason a cash player should make the trek up to Pompano Beach from here?

If you play 1/2 or 2/5, the players at the Isle are super soft IME.

IMO, the Isle is great during the winter months. Many snowbirds come down to that area and they go for a good time. Most of them play abc poker, which makes the games fairly soft. There are regs that know their stuff so you have to be able to sniff out the weaker players and you'll be profitable. In the summer, it's a different crowd and Miami may be better for cash games then. Just my observations..

currently living in fort lauderdale and planning to grind 1/2 at the hard rock

are there softer games at magic city? obviously 1/2 will be soft anywhere so idc but is 2/5 magic city worse than 2/5 hard rock? thats kind of the idea im getting from reading this forum but thought id ask directly.

Do you need a car to get around in South Florida? Basically by get around I mean get from casino to casino.

Hey guys -

This is in regards to finding a place to live in Pompano Beach for one month.

I've got a friend who is moving down there mid-april for some flight school. I figured I need to get out of my current living situation and figured I'll check out the area as well. Problem? I don't know sh*t about the area except for it looks nice. So I started looking for places (CL, Airbnb, even hotels.com w/ some coups) online. Seems like either places are dirt cheap and ****ty or really expensive.

Anybody have any recommendations for a 600$/mo or less living situation?

Note that I most likely won't have a car down there. So here's my requirements:
- Must be in Pompano Beach zip code
- Bed, Oven, Stove, Fridge
- Ability to walk, bike, or public trans to grocery store AND casino AND beach (if that's possible)
- Cable and high speed dub dub dub

Obviously nightlife and all that jazz would be nice, but I think everything is pretty basic. Anybody have any recommendations of places to stay away from? Or any areas that meet this criteria?

Thanks and I guess PM me if anybody has any spots they know of for sure.

Currently in PA. I can fly into FLL for free with miles I have and what not. If a car is needed I'll just rent one or buy a hoopty for a month. If I'm honest with myself I've probably got about 5k to "blow". That includes room, food, car I'm going to rent/buy, and maybe some good 'ol poker

I can confidently say that I could bump this up to 10k if needed .. though 5k is what I would like to spend.

Hey guys. I'm bumping this thread since i just relocated to S FLA for a (non poker related) job. I've played at the hard Rock several times when visiting in the past, and I'm going to be focusing on 1-2 and tourneys when I can find a decent structure. Is there anywhere I should definitely go to our stay away from?

Thanks in advance!

Doesn't Dania Jaila have really low rake for small stakes ?

Not sure as I haven't been to Dania yet. Miccosukee was pretty high, but the crowd made up for it.

Also, let me know if you live down here and want to meet up / talk pokers.

Where are you staying? If northern Broward, Coconut Creek has a $120 5K Guarantee on Wed & Th at 6. 2hr late registration, 14K starting stack + 2K for $10 dealer add-on. 20 minute levels. Last Th. only 36 for a nice overlay.

As for 1/2, all rooms should have multiple tables. Just find the one you like. Bravo app is your friend.

I play some tournaments, but mainly 2/5 at the Isle.

Enjoy South Florida, there's no place better in the winter. Summers can be brutal though.
