Looking for some insight from some Floridians and this seemed like the best thread to ask. I'm seriously considering moving to Florida next year, but I really don't know where I would want to live. I'm fairly familiar with Boca and Miami which I loved, but I've also enjoyed my trips to Orlando/panhandle area.
I'd like to live within 20 miles of the coast(shouldn't be hard lol), I'll be teaching/substituting so decent schools is a plus, and obviously I'm looking for an area with a great poker scene.

Input? Suggestions?

Southeast FL> Tampa > Jacksonville, IMO.

Why not live directly on the coast and be within 20 miles of numerous poker rooms? That's what I just did. I just bought an oceanfront condo on Miami Beach and I am within 20 miles of at least 7 poker rooms (5 of which I've played at so far). I'll now be splitting my time between Las Vegas and Miami Beach.

Oh, and btw, the players down here are beyond horribad.

I am looking to move into the same area to play full-time. Any suggestion on apartments or potential roommate share?

Sorry, I'm not familiar with the apartment communities down here at all. You might want to try City-Data for advice.

I'm also looking at different areas in and around Miami to live. I like beach communities similar to to Manhattan Beach, Belmont Shore, and Huntington Beach in LA; safe (non-ghetto) and moderately upscale area, good singles scene, easy cab fare to bars, and preferably near a dog beach and also less than 30 minutes to all the good casinos, including Isle up north and Magic City down south.

I imagine South Beach and Brickell Avenue are too far away. Weston and Coral Springs aren't on a beach and are too far away. That leaves North Miami Beach, Hollywood, and Fort Lauderdale as potential locations, although I don't know the area well. Are there any recommendations between and within these cities, or anywhere else that would be a good fit?

I haven't been to South Florida in two years. Are Hollywood Hard Rock, Isle, Magic City, and Gulfstream still the places to go to every day for mid-stakes NL games, 5-10 and up?

fort lauderdale will probably be your best bet if you want to be closer to the casinos , it has a nice nightlife and well located to most of the casinos .

I'm in town for a couple weeks. Any suggestions for a super spewy 1/2 nl game? if it runs deep all the better. I lived here a year ago and played at Hard Rock and the Aisle 1/2 and 2/5..pretty nitty overall w/ the occasional gold nugget idiot.

From the sounds of this post Miccosukee sounds like the place? Though I really can't stand cig smoke.

I would suggest Casino Jai Alai. Uncapped buyin and players can straddle any amount from any position (other than from blinds obv.). Can lead to some crazy spewy action.

Hello, I just finished a semester of school. I am thinking about driving down to the Miami area to check out the games for a week or 2. My original idea is to play the 2-5 at Hard Rock(Hollywood). Would this be a good place to start? Also, any advice as to where I should stay? Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm personally not wild about the 2-5 at Hard Rock, but it's really a matter of preference for me. It's probably as good a place as any to start... just do yourself the favor of checking out other games in the area and don't limit yourself to one room. The West Palm Kennel Club and the Isle are definitely worth looking at to the North, and Magic City is worth a drive to the South. Those are the main rooms where you can consistently find 2-5 and 5-10 action.

If you're college aged, I'd suggest finding a hotel on South Beach, rent a car (this holds true no matter where you stay) and explore the beach, the bars, the restaurants, and the clubs.

But if it's strictly a poker trip, then you could do a lot worse than staying at the Holiday Inn on Sheridan and I-95. http://www.holidayinn.com/hotels/us/...as/hoteldetail

From there, you're 5 minutes from Hard Rock, 10 minutes to Gulfstream and Mardi Gras, and 20 minutes to the Isle, Seminole Coconut Creek, and Magic City.

Thanks for the reply. I will heed your advice and play at more that one location. I will be driving there. So I will have my car for purposes of getting around and even sleeping in should the need arise.

Is there a particular reason why you dislike the games at the Hard Rock?

The players are cocky and condescending. Not friendly at all in my experience. I've heard stories of collusion/team play but have never directly witnessed it in action. Still, it's worth a trip for you to check it out and judge it for yourself.

It's Miami. I've never played at Dania, so don't know their house rules.

BTW, I'll be heading to Miami Jai Alai shortly because they have a high hand promo today wherein they're paying $500 every 20 minutes starting at noon.

Dania jai alai is dead. Don't waste your time. There's as good a chance as not that you would arrive there and there would be no cash game going at all.

Thinking of heading to sofl for a poker vacation. Is there a schedule for the 10/20+ nl games, or do they just run randomly? Which room has the largest cap (or uncapped) 5/10nl buyins? Is there a regular 5/10 plo? Which beaches are the least crowded and/or nice to take long walks on?

Thanks!

I'll be in Miami for about 8 hours waiting for a flight. Where is the best place to play 1/2 NL Holdem during the day for the short time I'm there?
