I know a few dealers from Magic City who went to work at Dania. Apparently they are both owned by the same people.

I remember back in the day, I use to play at Dania all the time. They had an $85 tourny that had $50 bounties.

Headed for Hollywood, FL on Sunday, January 24th from MA. How is the 1/2 NL action at Gulfstream? How is the action at Dania and how far is it from Hollywood?
Thanks, all.

I believe the owners of Magic City only bought 25% of Dania from the Argentine owners, not 100%, but Dania is 100% managed by Magic City (if that makes sense).

I play 2/5NL at Gulfstream, not 1/2, so I can't speak authoritatively to its action. When I used to play 1/2, I preferred Hialeah to Gulfstream because it is a $300max as opposed to Gulfstream's $200. I haven't been back to Dania since they reopened, so I can't speak for their action either.

Late last night/early this morning at Magic City, a poker player got into an argument with staff, became belligerent, cops were called, and then the player pulled a knife and stabbed the police officer in the face. The police officer then shot the player.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like my best play is the Hollywood Hard Rock.

Good places to play during the week around 10am-4? Any of you up by then? Or is it just a bunch of old leathery Miami men nitting out social security checks. Gonna be here a few months if anyone needs a poker and/or drinking buddy let me know.

mdroz, come to the Isle in Pompano Beach. You can stay somewhere nice on the beach and be just a 12-20 minute drive away.

I played today at Magic City from noon to about 5:30pm and the place was pretty busy. When I got there they had eight NL games going: three 2/5NL and five 1/2NL. By 1:00pm, another 2/5 table had opened as well as a 1/2 PLO table. I didn't really keep track after that, but that will give you some idea. For most of the other rooms in SoFla, you can just check Bravo at the relevant time(s) to see what the action is like during the day.

Just got home from playing several sessions (some 2/5 but mostly 1/2) at SHR. Games were good but I got my head handed to me for playing like the tourist I was.

I'm gonna be headin down this way next weekend. Where would you guys recommend to play for the best action/promos? I feel like SHR will be mandatory, but not sure about the other rooms there.

SHR and the Isle are the first two picks.

Best promos at SHRH and Isle, Hialeah to a lesser extent.

Action depends on stakes. 1/2 and 2/5 nlhe action is good at SHRH and Hialeah, not so good at Isle (lots of tables but too many tight old nits). Hialeah also has good Omaha games. Magic City used to have a lot of action but I haven't played there in years(dislike the room).

As far as higher stakes, the big game is mainly at the Isle and to a lesser degree at the SHRH.

Check out the rooms on Bravo to see which have most games you want going.

You must not have played at Hialeah in awhile either. They almost never have 2/5NL going anymore. For example, it is almost 8:00pm on Thursday night right now, and Hialeah has 13 tables running, but no 2/5NL:

(6) 1/2 NL
(4) 1/2 PLO
(2) 2/4 Limit Holdem
(1) 2/4 Limit Omaha

I used to go to Hialeah all then time to play 2/5NL, but the game dried up last summer. As you noted, it is now the place to go in Miami for Omaha. On the other hand, Magic City is a great place for 2/5NL. In fact, it's the only casino in the county that has multiple 2/5NL tables running even in off hours such as before noon weekdays.

I'm from Canada, visiting South Florida for a week. Didn't have time to get USD before I came so just brought CAD. I'm looking to buy around 2500 USD, I plan on going to Hard Rock and/or the Isles a couple of times while I'm here. If anyone is going to be at either of those rooms and is interested in trading with no fees (we'll just use the official exchange rate at http://www.xe.com/currencyconverter/), then PM me!

I love South Florida poker! Hit two straight flushes in under an hour last night, winning the $300 high hand each time. Hard Rock had great action too, but my favorite room might be the Isle now.

Magic City has a joke of a rake structure. I will never play there again. I was playing 2/5. If you take down the blinds pre ($7) they take $1 in rake, and $2 for the promotional fund. There is no way to justify that. It is beyond unfair

Yes, I posted about that ridiculous rake structure last year. Unfortunately, Magic City is now pretty much the only place in Miami-Dade that has a regular 2/5NL game going at any time of day or night.

Nice hit Justinawe12. DoyleFreud, you can get USD at the upstairs cage at the Isle. Or just walk west on Atlantic Blvd from the beach holding a sign. From their license plates, you will see half the traffic is also Canadian.

Any safety concerns about the casinos here? I recently saw scary articles about robberies at WPB kennel and isle pompano.

Robberies at these places are no more common than anywhere else. No place is 100% safe. Any tales you've heard are either made up, highly exaggerated or a random, isolated incident that could have happened anywhere.
