Re: South Florida (Palm Beach, Broward, Dade)
Any of the S. Fl rooms have a live games app/twitter, etc?
Does 5/10nl run everyday at pbkc?
Which do you think would be better for a full-time 5/10nl grind....live near pbkc & mostly play there with the occasional trip to HR/Isle or vice versa?? Other options in between?
Thanks

Hard Rock Hollywood has an app & a twitter page but the poker updates are sporadic and you're better off just calling the poker room for table updates.
GulfStream has been a series of misses trying to get into the 5/10 nl game - they seem to have 1 game that starts late, breaks early, and they won't make the table if the waiting players are already seated in a 2/5.

I've heard magic city is a dump, not sure about Miami Jai-Alai. Hardrock Ft Lauderdale would be an option except we're not renting a car, and I'd prefer to keep taxi costs manageable.
|
Gulfstream is in Hallandale. It has a horse track, but no live racing in October only simulcast. It also has decent restaurants and shopping. Hardrock is perhaps a better option...more things to do...better nightlife.....comedy clubs....and a Hotel...you could stay there and not need to drive anywhere....

Not only that, but you must speak Hebrew or Spanish to play the 5/10 @ Gulfstream. Otherwise, you'll miss out on the table chatter going on.

Can someone start a spreadsheet of local games and when they run? I'll contribute.

Snowbirds: South Florida Networking
Headed to South Florida for the winter to grind 2/5 5/10. Any advice on cardrooms, housing, or current events in the area would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Snowbirds: South Florida Networking
send me a pm. I am currently wrapping up my masters degree but as soon as im done in december im taking a few months off to grind down in south florida. I learned to play there and know all the rooms well.
Gulfstream and HR are *generally* the two biggest action rooms but there are exceptions. some very big very loose games get off in other rooms. avoid Calder (studz) as there is no money there. The isle is great but it plays more like foxwoods than the other rooms.

Re: South Florida (Palm Beach, Broward, Dade)
Looking for housing with a fellow poker player / or poker players for the winter months Dec/jan/Feb/March. Will be coming down from Toronto. If you have info on accommodations in south Florida give me a shout back. I am a 5/10 player and going to grind for the winter months at Hardrock / Isle. PM me please. Dates are flexible.

Re: South Florida (Palm Beach, Broward, Dade)
Will be in in south florida this weekend, 5 minutes from hollywood hardrock. I played there a year ago, and was underwhelmed by the quality of games (tons of shortstacks, made like 4 table changes). Is it worth going anywhere else for 2/5 - 5/10? Are the structures all the same?

Re: South Florida (Palm Beach, Broward, Dade)
If you had a choice between the two Hard Rock's Tampa or Hollywood Which would you chose?
Specifically looking for decent 2/5 NL games. Probably late Jan would be the trip time.

I've played in both and I can say the HRH would be the better choice overall. You have more to do if you decide to, 2/5 is soft, and you can go to other rooms in the area in a matter of 5-20 mins.

Status of SoFL Poker?
Has anyone seen anything like this for SoFL?
http://www.twoplustwo.com/magazine/i...utumn-2011.php
If not, anyone have any interest in helping to compile this?
Especially for 5-10+, I have to believe these table numbers are higher for SoFL than Vegas.

Re: South Florida (Palm Beach, Broward, Dade)
what do you guys think the chances of starting a decent (10-20, or 15-30, 20-40) mixed game would be? I know the donks in south florida love going all in cause they are tough guys but there has to be a way to attract them to other games? Anyone have any idea?

Every couple weeks a new person posts about looking for mixed games and it always fails really hard. Seriously save your time.

Even if the games did run all the easiest money would be at the NL tables. Unless you do not care about winning the easiest money...

have you ever played the 40-80 LHE or the 30-60 stud at foxwoods? I'm not saying I don't love the NL in south florida but im just plain better at mixed games and there is plenty of easy money to be made in them. I totally understand it just wont ever happen because it does not fit into the gambling culture of south florida at all. oh well!

It usually always gets going on Thursday afternoons, about noon until around dinner time. Any other time, it's hit or miss, mostly miss.

I am starting a campaign to change Florida law to raise the wagering cap for legal home poker games, and can use help from other Florida players. Please see this thread in the Legislation forum.

Re: South Florida (Palm Beach, Broward, Dade)
1. My favorite poker room is Studz at Calder Race Course. Yeah I know, the name of the room sounds more like a gay bar than a poker room, but it's set up well and generally run well. 29 tables, comfortable chairs and mostly a crowd of soft, recreational players that don't take themselves too seriously. Patience pays here as it's typical to have 7 or 8 limp into a pot, plenty of calling stations that'll chase their A-rag to the river, etc. A patient TAG player can usually profit here.
They have a nice $10,000 guaranteed freezeout tourney every Saturday at 11 AM. $100 to enter, regularly gets 200+ runners with 1st place paying more than $3,000. Deep stack so usually takes 6 to 8 hours if you manage to go deep without chopping at the final table. Other tourneys every other day of the week, but they're all rebuys which make them a bit more LAGGY. Also, all tournaments are eligible for bonuses/jackpots (high hand, flopped straight flushes, etc.).
Players club pays you $0.50/hour which can be used for food or converted to freeplay on slots or video poker.
Wear long sleeves or bring a jacket. Depending upon the table you're at, this can be the coldest room in SoFla. A guy there once told me he had a read on me. Everytime I have a good hand, I shake. I told him that wasn't due to good cards, it was due to me freezing. Learned my lesson :-)
2. Hard Rock Hollywood is good too. Some of the players here are a bit more serious and can be on the douchebag end of the player scale (hoodie, sunglasses wannabes that'll lecture everyone on "correct play"). Still, if you take the time to figure out who to target at your table, you can make money here. Lots of tourneys here too, but the schedule varies often due to regular regional WPT tournaments, so check their schedule online before heading there for an MTT.
3. Magic City in Miami is also soft and TAG play can be profitable. You're more likely to hear Spanish at the tables as the primary language. Also, a lot of the players like to exhibit their Latin "machismo" when playing, but hey, if you don't understand Spanish, then you won't understand when they're berating you for being a "burro" LOL.
These are the main three I play at, although there are plenty of others convenient to residents and visitors to Miami and Ft. Lauderdale. Overall, SoFla still suffers from a lot of weak, passive, soft play, but that's not necessarily a bad thing .
