@ Blufforfold: Do you live around Fort Lauderdale? Been playing live for about two years now and looking for someone to go over hands with as well. Been on here for a while but never posted, still trying to figure out how to use the PM function.

Does it make a difference, being 9 or 10 handed How's the action at Calder? Fri / Sat at Hard Rock FTL, prime pickings, packed house, couple of really soft 5/10 tables right now.

I prefer 9-handed because I don't feel as cramped at the table. As for the action at Calder, as I said this was my first time there so I don't know how typical it was, but there were a lot of short stackers and the play was pretty passive. It was a pretty boring afternoon, livened up only because they were giving away $500 every 20 minutes for high hands. I really don't care for $200 max buy-ins at 1/2 to begin with, and it was worse because most people were only buying in for $50 - $100 all afternoon. I'm going back to Miami Jai Alai tomorrow.

Fair enough, pretty sure you'd find much better / consistent action at Hard Rock or the Isles. Since you said you don't care much for 200nl, what's your primary game? How often do you play? I caught the poker fever a month before Internet Poker got shut down. Been playing live since.

No, I guess I wasn't clear. It's not 1/2nl in general that I don't care for, it's 1/2 with only a $200 max buy-in. I usually play 1/3 or 2/5 in Vegas, but even when I play at rooms with 1/2 instead of 1/3, the max buy-in is $300, not $200. My favorite game/room in Vegas is Wynn's 1/3 where I buy-in for $500. My favorite room in Miami is Jai-Alai with it's no max 1/2 or 2/5.

I play about 4-5 times a week when I live in Vegas and about 3 times a week when I'm in Miami, but I'm a recreational player, not a grinder. I rarely put in long sessions and am usually only at a table for 3 hours or so.

Alright it seems like there's a few heads interested in a study group or at least meet up to go over hands, etc. I'm in. Hope you guys aren't a buncha creeps. If you are that's cool too, I'll just pretend like this never happened if I show up and ur rocking a fanny pack and a wolves howling at the moon shirt. Think I'll be at the hard rock tomorrow from like 6-12 unless I spazz and dump a few bi's early. Hitting either Hialeah or the HR sat/sun for a day session both days depending on which has more 2-5 tables. Get at me.

Lol @ MC23. Pretty sure you won't find nearly the level of creepiness that you described in your post but I get where you're coming from It's SF after all.

Like you I did notice a few guys looking to go over hands / improve their game / winrate. It'll be awesome if we could form a tight poker group.

As such, how often do you play? Where do you play? I've been playing about three / four days a week for two years live (Yes, I caught the poker fever right when Pokerstars/ online poker got blown to hell, bummer). Reached a point where I'm thinking of playing live full time starting around Nov (Strictly cash 1/2, 2/5). PM me, if anything. Cheers.

^ don't think I can send or receive pm's yet due to my lack of posts. I've been playing live for years but only started taking it serious (see proper brm, studying, etc) for the past year. I play twice a week or more at the hard rock 2/5 and will be playing tonight and this weekend. Might play Hialeah on the weekend if they have a solid early afternoon line up.

@ MC23, almost exactly in the same boat. Been taking the game very seriously over the last year, need to step out there and test all of it out with heavy volume. I'll be playing at the HR Friday eve / Sat, will hit you up unless something else comes up. I'm assuming you're tracking every session you play in detail and you do some post session analysis as well.

@ whoisthatguy: Hard Rock is your best best as far as 24/7 goes as well as traffic. I also like the fact that the max buy in is 300, wish it were uncapped, I favor deep stacked play. The Jai Alais are meh. Played for most part of last year at PB Kennel Club, the action is as good/ spewy as any, good traffic and it's open till 4 am everyday, weekends 24 hours if you care to get up there. There are some very very soft home games (1/2 nl, uncapped) played mostly by portly businessmen who like to seriously gamble it up every other day @ Jupiter organized by a dealer if you'd like. Again, it's extremely profitable if poker is your means of making the nut, hit me up if you'd like to know.

Additional info: max buyin @ 1/2 is $300, straddle from any position for any amount.

Comments: I think this is my new favorite room in SoFla, for a variety of reasons. It is by far the nicest room that I've been in. Well-appointed, with professional dealers and staff. Good drink/food service. Moreover, some of the worst players I've ever run across. Even softer than Jai-Alai. The only thing that would make it better would be a no-cap buy-in, but I can live with 150bb.

They have two 2/5 games: the "regular" 2/5 with a cap of $600 and a "big stack" 2/5 with a max of $2,000.

I'm going to be staying in Miramar Nov 14-19..

I play 2/5 or 5/5 NL, and I'm thinking:
Hard Rock
Jai Alai
Hialeah
Isle

Since I'm only there a few days, is there any of those rooms I can skip?

Any good 5/5 PLO?

I played 2/5 at the Isle twice and Hard Rock once over the past few weeks and those are two of the nicest rooms in the state. The 2/5 game at the Isle seemed to have more regs in it than Hard Rock, not that the regs were all pros or anything. The HR 2/5 game had a nice balance of regs, obv pros and tourists--almost ideal.

For Omaha, they spread 2/5 a lot and it looks like 5/10 on the weekend.

I had originally gone out to the Isle early, early Sat AM to catch the tail end of the 20/40 O8B game but by the time I got there all the dead money had busted and the game was breaking. There was a juicy-looking 5-10 NLHE game there.

If you like buffets, the Isle has a really good one IMO and a decent comp rate for poker players with your Fan Club card.

Thanks for the review Mickey.

So is Jai Alai the only skippable room on my list?

I will be flying down to Ft. Lauderdale the first week of Decemeber and will have a few days open. Where is my best chance to find some 5/10 nl games that will run consistently?

THX.

Just received a flyer in the mail today confirming that the Studz poker room will be moving in December from its present stand-alone facility to its new location inside Calder Casino.
