hr tampa floor is terrible and the rake is unreasonable. the silks caters to players/regulars and is very fair about rake. plus the food is great. they have boxes/big chips/good comps.

my only real complaint is about the waitress that always messes up my order and she started using a pen/pad so hopefully i wont be getting crazy **** i didnt order

Rake is better at HR at every level except maybe 5/10 and above. Floors are equally bad everywhere from my experiences. And apparently HR has boxes too if you know who to ask.

getting a box if u play <5/10 seems kind of silly/a waste of time putting money in/out every night.

also how is the rake better at HR? they drop preflop and refuse to reduce the rake when shorthanded? im assuming both of these issues are foreign to you, since the games u play in probably see a flop every hand and its never shorthanded cause there are miles of people lined up to play 2/5 with you, but i'd still like a real answer

yep. ive put a ton of hours in at both and its amazing how much better silks is, for 5/10+ anyway. it seems like no dealers/floors at THR play poker or understand it at all, and it really shows with some of the horrible decisions/judgements they make. whereas at silks all the floors/dealers generally know what they're doing and are very reasonable/cool people.

not sure about 1/2-2/5 rake etc., but i would think that all the promos that silks does for those games (high hand, the thing where you collect as many 1$ chips as you can, etc.) would be a strong selling point for people who play in those games.

This just isn't true. The floor crew and the dealers and the cashiers at Silks as a group are way ahead of any in the area in all aspects.

Looks like better service, promotions, and food outweigh the additional rake at smaller limits. Can someone please go over the promotions and times.

The promotions for this month are the following...

Daily from 10am - 1pm "Catch the Worm":
Two highest hands are winners.
Highest hand wins $400, Second highest wins $200

Daily from 1pm- Close "Progressive High Hands":
Any four of a kind or better hit gets paid the amount that the particular hand is at for the moment. $ amounts for all hands are posted in the room to begin the day.

Fridays from $599/$299 High Hand Payouts:
Any four of a kind or better hit for the first time in the day is paid $599, if the hand has been hit once or more times it will get paid $299.

Mini Bad Beat Jackpot (Four of a kind or better beaten):
Loser of hand - $1,000
Winner of hand - $500
All other players dealt in - $100

The promotions that mdom was speaking of, in terms of the collecting dollar chips is a promotion we use during baseball season. Everytime the rays score in an inning the two highest hands for the next 10 minutes get to come up and try to rack as many dollar chips as they possibly can in 45 seconds.

Our promotions often change month to month to keep things fresh and interesting. So please feel free to check out our site for updated information.

Also, management is open to suggestions for new promotional ideas. Please feel free to share them on here or contact the room about them.

Sorry Ron just saw your post,

The (F)aces cracked promotion, that included jacks cracked, is not a promotion this month. But a lot of people did like it, so hopefully we will be bringing it back soon.

Very untrue. I posted this the other day:

As far as skill and professionalism, the dealers and floors at the Rock and Silks are on two completely separate levels. I've seen mistakes and decisions at the Rock that I honestly thought were jokes, until I realized that they weren't.

Can anyone confirm that Silks offers safe deposit boxes? Are there any stipulations or hours of play requirements that I would have to meet before I get one?

Since this appears to be the only thread (at least that I found) dedicated to the Silk's, I figured I would post here. If there are others, please post links.

This is definitely the best poker room in Tampa. Accomodations are good, staff is friendly and for the most part competent, and the action is solid. I have played $1/2NL here once or twice a week for the past 2 years. My observations are as follows:

1) the daytime weekday regulars offer a pretty boring, conservative game. definitely a much older crowd, but during horse racing season you will get more action from the degenerates and horse owners.

2) things liven up in the afternoon with a younger crowd coming in and guys coming in after work looking to drop some cash and have a few beers.

3) the night time is the right time, though, when the crazies come out. the action is usually pretty decent, with maybe 2 or 3 competent players at any given table. most tables will turn into a 6-7 player limpfest if a table captain doesn't emerge to make standard raises to get the riff raff out. even still, you can expect 1-2 loose calls. rarely will a pot be heads up without a preflop 3bet. after that you can usually expect weak passive play from the regulars and some spewy aggro play from the younger guys that is usually pretty easy to pick off.

Overall, this can be a very profitable room for a good player. like anywhere, it's just a matter of feeling out and adapting to the table. I would love for this thread to evolve into a more detailed discussion of the Silk's and strategy for beating the games there.

Duhhhh

Do the silks have a $1-$1 No limit Holdem running regularly?
Also how does the satellite for the $350 work on Sunday, how many seats are awarded?

Yes, and I think the satty for that is given as flush tickets... any flush during a designated time frame (there are only X number to give out per time frame)

There's always a $1/1, $1/2 and $2/5 game going. Usually multiple table of each.

Coming down for part of a week in Sarasota and saw that y'all have a monthly $350 + 5 Tourney on the 17th. It's about a two hour round trip drive from the Hyatt so I have a couple questions--

1. How big of a field does this tourney draw? (On the average)
2. What is the pay-out structure?
3. Does live action pick-up as people get sent to the rail or do most leave?
4. Is it worth the drive or should I just stay @ SKC?

Thanks!

Snake sorry I did not see this post initially. I was busy actually playing cards this past week.

The tourney usually draws on avg 70 players but it honestly is a SUPER soft field generally.
Most of the field is made up of small tournament regulars that win promotional tickets or satellite into it.

The live action on that day is typically very good for sure. All stakes are in full action.

The payout structure I will post on here when I get back to work on Wednesday as I am not 100% sure, since I typically never work that tournament.

Obviously I am plenty bias, but I think it is most certaintly worth the drive.
