I hate to say. The whole room doesn't get near the traffic it used to but that's just a sign of the poker times. It used to her 40-45 entrants but I had a buddy there last Saturday all day and he said the room was booming, probably because of the bad beat. I'll ask him how many entries....I think it's a rebuy so he might not know how many actual people but he might have a count of the total "entries" counting rebuys. Either way I'd guess 30-45 runners.

Re: Shreveport, LA

Just talked to my buddy. He said 1 re-buy available per person and there were 67 total entries including re-buys last Sat. Hope that helps!

The tournament was really really soft and had a good turn out of 90 players; I did not cash . There were very few experienced players, and I saw a lot of crazy plays. Anytime someone got AA, KK, or QQ they would shove pre-flop like scared old men lol. None of the raising made any sense either. The blinds would be 100/200, and everyone would open raise to 2k and then get re-raised to 4k. It was like that all day. If you made a standard raise, you had 9 callers.
Cash games were awesome. There seemed to be some regs there, but they didn't seem like they knew how to play. They talked about going there for years, but were playing like fish.

I'm thinking of going and playing once a week there, and I'll definitely go back for the tournament. Thanks for the heads up on the tourny!

Re: Shreveport, LA

Haha! Awesome, glad to hear it. Sounds like the room was booming if there were 90 tournament players. Even if that was total entries including rebuys, that's still a bunch. Glad to hear the room was busy. It's been very sad the last few times I've gone.

My buddies and I used to play there a couple times a month at least for many years. As the poker boom faded, so did we. Once they lost the WSOP Circuit Event it really seemed to slow down. But it's a nice room and is usually well run. I'll be over there in a couple weeks and I'll see how it's going. I'm sure the bad beat being $200k is helping the traffic.

Yeah, there was a lot of talk about the bad beat. The dealers were good and the room seemed we'll run as well. Lot of value there; I'll be going back.

I forgot to mention that there was a crowd of about 10 guys standing around my table for a while watching lol. A lot of big pots that night.

Re: Shreveport, LA

So an interesting change has been put into place at the Horseshoe. Instead of being able to only buy up to 50% of the big stack at the table, you can now match. Yesterday was the first day in quite some time that I've played and when I noticed what was going on, I asked the dealer about it. She said the change was put into place at the first of the year. An older reg that's there all the time chimed in saying how it basically killed the 1/3 no cap game and the 2/5 game. From my experience, 2/5 was pretty rare anyway, at least in 2017 unless it was the weekend. Personally, I really like the change and benefited from it yesterday when the fish at the table got up for a smoke break, stuck a hundo in the slot machine nearby, and came back to the table with an extra $700 from the slots, and was able to bump his stack up to $600. Was able to take a good bit of that from him in a couple of pots but apparently he came prepared because after he burned through the slot machine money, he was dipping into his pocket always topping off to around $600. Unfortunately I had to leave early with family obligations but the game was really good. I suppose the only down side is the fish will lose their money faster, but that's never seemed to matter a whole lot as the 1/3 shoe games always played fairly deep. But I was $1k deep when I cashed out and there were several stacks at the table w/ $600+. Fun times.

Re: Shreveport, LA

i dont see how this is a bad thing, but me personally if im winning good off my original $100 buyin (have it up over $400) and then a guy who wont chop or a guy i worry is a good player, if he decides to cover me im getting up on my next BB. now if he only buyins $100, or im winning not much at all and dont have near that much in front of me then ill stay. id also stay if i was behind, no matter how much i had on the table.

Re: Shreveport, LA

Just a heads up-I've given El Dorado a try on a few Friday nights since the first of the year, and at least on that night of the week, it has been real good. 3-4 tables of 1-3 with buyin to highest stack (or maybe 75% of biggest stack), and 20-40 limit O-8 going each Friday night I've been there. The 1-3 games have played deep and easily bigger than a capped 2-5 game.

Are they still shuffling by hand at the El Dorado?

Re: Shreveport, LA

The games are Dorado gotten bigger recently or something? I used to play there quite frequently before 2018 and switched to Shoe because the games were bigger and I had built up a big enough bank roll.

Dorado week day games were always OMC reg fest but weekends were decent with visitors coming in and not knowing what they were doing. The limiting factor was stack sizes there on the weekends. Some games I'd be the biggest stack with $300. I'm intrigued to go back and give them another shot if their weekend games have gotten better.
