Where are the highest stakes (NL cash games) played in Shreveport and which casino is the nicest to stay in? Also does any casino offer a poker rate? Finally, which are the best strip clubs in Shreveport? Thanks in advance!

Been living here and playing regularly for the past 5 years. Cut my teeth the hard way int he crazy 1/2, 1/3 game here. Finally got enough cash to give 2/5 a try about 2 years ago and never looked back. Moving to Vegas in July, can't wait. Biggest games playing round the clock is 2/5. Horshoe has the best venue. Occasionally you'll get some people to play 2/5 PLO, maybe 5/10 NLHE, but it's rare.

I wrote a breakdown of the games here on another forum for some folks. Here it is.

Shreveport, LA

Poker crowd in Shreveport: Most are regulars. Even out of towners. They come from just over the border in TX. Very few people from way out of the area coming through. So, the people playing aren't as concious about their bankroll. If they lose it, their trip isn't spoiled. They can reload and come back next week.

Horseshoe 1/3 NLHE: $300 cap or 50% of the biggest stack. Loose, loose game. The people seem to come with a mentality of "I came to lose my money and gamble. If I win, great. If I lose, so what." It can be maddening if lady luck decides to give you the finger on any one night. Forget table image and bluffing. Most of the players don't recognize it. Out of a full table, 6-7 are complete donks. The rest are competant to pretty solid. Gotta play your hands straight up and bet by the book. Game is a roller coaster. Hard to make a consistant profit at it. If you're card dead, go home. But...if you are hitting...you'll walk out with $1000 in a few hours.

Horseshoe 2/5 NLHE: $500 cap or 50% of the big stack. Much different game than 1/3. Much more solid. Still have some loose players, but by and large players at this game here actually care about their money. Complete Donks in this game are few, usually less than 3 on average, with most being pretty solid to fairly good. There's more money on the table, and the poker is more serious. I immediately jumped to this game after struggling to get a consistant string of winning sessions at 1/3 and my results improved dramaticaly. I had maybe 2-3 break even or down sessions tops for every 10 compared to 5-6 even to down sessions out of 10 in the 1/3game. Once you establish a good table image, the regulars remember you. Easier to work pots. Won't get respect till you earn it. Show down a few strong winners and you're set until a large turnover. The pro's generally stay out eachother's way. How you get on their good side? Prove you play solid, show your face 3 times a week. They'll start recognizing you and you'll notice they leave you alone for the most part. Game plays aggressive a bit large for 2/5, but solid.

Overall Horseshoe room is the nicest. No smoking near the room. Fair ammount of TV's. Dealers are awesome. Very nice. IF you're a regular they know you by week 1 and stick up for you when people get out of hand.

El Dorado 1/2NLHE: This game has bounced back and forth from being ultra crazy to ok back to nutty. I actually dropped El Dorado back in like late 2005. I went to the Shoe exclusively. Generally though, the crowd is more loose than the Horseshoe players, and that crowd is pretty nuts.

P.S. Strip clubs in shreveport suck. Bible belt. Everything is topless and theya re super strict. A lap dance means they stand in front of you and dance. No friction whatsoever. Save your money and just play more cards. If you must go, Hustler club downtown right around the corner from El Dorado.

Edit: oops posted at the same time as DaUson above.

Highest stakes NL game I've seen is $2/5. The two poker rooms are Eldorado and the Horseshoe, both spread $1/2 and $2/5 NL. There might occasionally be a larger game, but I'm not aware of it as I play limit poker.

As for the nicest casino, that would the Horseshoe in my opinion, at least speaking of the hotel. Eldorado is ok, but IMO not on the same level as the Shoe, which are very nice and very larged. The overall casino floor feels much larger and open at the Eldorado but the Shoe is still very nice. The poker room at the Shoe is more "enclosed" with walls and half glass and has a quieter/private feel. Poker room rate....I'm not sure, I know the Eldorado used to have a weeknight room rate but I'm not sure if they still do. Give them both a call and see.

I play exclusively at the Shoe now and have for the last couple years.

Good luck.

Nice rooms, make sure to ask for a room high up as possible with a view across the river. Very nice view.

I agree, I thought the rooms at the Shoe were very large, and fairly decent. The only gripe I have is that they have a lot of smoking rooms, and I was stuck with one. The weekday rates are dirt cheap.

Regarding the strip clubs, the only good ones I know of near Shreveport are actually in Texas.

Streakers is a hole in the wall but worth the trip, if you're into that kind of thing.

It's not a place you'd be likely to find on your own...

FYI -- Horseshoe >>>> El Dorado imo... The Horseshoe has automatic shufflers which help the game go faster. Also, I remember the El Dorado being more smoky than the Horseshoe -- although both rooms are located right next to slots / smoking areas.

Action on Fri/Sat at the Horseshoe at $1/2 last I went a few months ago was outstanding -- lots of bad players who are just there for the weekend to gamble.

I agree. This is great...if you're running average to good. If the card gods aren't smiling on you, forget posturing and bluffing. They'll call you down.

When I used to play 1/2 at Horseshoe, when I ran good I made a killing. When I wasn't, I could buy a pot to save my life. You could have 4 limpers in front of you, raise near the end sensing weakness, and then all of a sudden everyone's hand that was initially worth 2 bucks to them is now worth 15-20. Then on the flop they're all firing at it and if you miss you gotta sail.

Like I said, if you're running decent it's a killing. If not, head to 2/5. Those guys actually think.

Whats all this talk about 1/2NL at the shoe? did they change it or something? thought it was always 1/3NL.
I will be traveling through that area and on harrahs website when I logged in I saw I could get a free premium room on wed. april 1st. SWEET. I am just a lowly gold card member so I dont get too many free rooms. No points taken off my card either. Hope there is some decent action.

It's been 1/3 for a little while. It was 1/2 initially for a long time. 1/2, 1/3, same thing really. The play hasn't changed since they upped the big blind.

Good bump. I'm thinking of going to hs this Friday. Anyone played in the 20/40 LHE game lately? How late does the game usually last and how are the players? Thanks.

20/40 typically starts on Friday around noon....sometimes later in the day. Call ahead and get on list because it will fill up quick. It will run late into Sat. morning alot of times....sometimes it breaks a little early if a big PLO game makes.

Im right on the cuff of being rolled to play this game, so I haven't played it. Friend of mine plays in it from time to time and says its an average mix of players, looks juicy as hell to me....seems to be 80-90%regs everytime I've railed the game.

Just wanted to bump this thread and show some love for Horseshoe at Shreveport. I go here to visit an old girlfriend for time to time and I always have an awesome experience playing.

I should also mention that there seems to be some regular high stakes Omaha action going on too- as of this writing a 20/40 (or was it 10/20?) PLO Game is running on Mondays and I think there is a regular PLO game on the weekend as well.

If you want to play high-stakes PLO, Louisiana is the place. L'Auberge in Lake Charles gets a 5-10-25 PLO game on pretty regular basis.

Going to play tomorrow. Realized I waited (entirely) too long to book my room at ED so may go check out the Horseshoe for the first time. Anyone know if they run any Thursday tourneys or if there is a BBJ? Their website blows.

Just give them a call and ask for the Poker Room. They are usually pretty helpful when I call, esp during the day.

What are the odds I find a 2-5 NL or PLO game on a Thursday night in Shrevport? Low, med, or high?
