I hate to say. The whole room doesn't get near the traffic it used to but that's just a sign of the poker times. It used to her 40-45 entrants but I had a buddy there last Saturday all day and he said the room was booming, probably because of the bad beat. I'll ask him how many entries....I think it's a rebuy so he might not know how many actual people but he might have a count of the total "entries" counting rebuys. Either way I'd guess 30-45 runners.

Just talked to my buddy. He said 1 re-buy available per person and there were 67 total entries including re-buys last Sat. Hope that helps!

The tournament was really really soft and had a good turn out of 90 players; I did not cash . There were very few experienced players, and I saw a lot of crazy plays. Anytime someone got AA, KK, or QQ they would shove pre-flop like scared old men lol. None of the raising made any sense either. The blinds would be 100/200, and everyone would open raise to 2k and then get re-raised to 4k. It was like that all day. If you made a standard raise, you had 9 callers.
Cash games were awesome. There seemed to be some regs there, but they didn't seem like they knew how to play. They talked about going there for years, but were playing like fish.

I'm thinking of going and playing once a week there, and I'll definitely go back for the tournament. Thanks for the heads up on the tourny!

Haha! Awesome, glad to hear it. Sounds like the room was booming if there were 90 tournament players. Even if that was total entries including rebuys, that's still a bunch. Glad to hear the room was busy. It's been very sad the last few times I've gone.

My buddies and I used to play there a couple times a month at least for many years. As the poker boom faded, so did we. Once they lost the WSOP Circuit Event it really seemed to slow down. But it's a nice room and is usually well run. I'll be over there in a couple weeks and I'll see how it's going. I'm sure the bad beat being $200k is helping the traffic.

Yeah, there was a lot of talk about the bad beat. The dealers were good and the room seemed we'll run as well. Lot of value there; I'll be going back.

I forgot to mention that there was a crowd of about 10 guys standing around my table for a while watching lol. A lot of big pots that night.

So an interesting change has been put into place at the Horseshoe. Instead of being able to only buy up to 50% of the big stack at the table, you can now match. Yesterday was the first day in quite some time that I've played and when I noticed what was going on, I asked the dealer about it. She said the change was put into place at the first of the year. An older reg that's there all the time chimed in saying how it basically killed the 1/3 no cap game and the 2/5 game. From my experience, 2/5 was pretty rare anyway, at least in 2017 unless it was the weekend. Personally, I really like the change and benefited from it yesterday when the fish at the table got up for a smoke break, stuck a hundo in the slot machine nearby, and came back to the table with an extra $700 from the slots, and was able to bump his stack up to $600. Was able to take a good bit of that from him in a couple of pots but apparently he came prepared because after he burned through the slot machine money, he was dipping into his pocket always topping off to around $600. Unfortunately I had to leave early with family obligations but the game was really good. I suppose the only down side is the fish will lose their money faster, but that's never seemed to matter a whole lot as the 1/3 shoe games always played fairly deep. But I was $1k deep when I cashed out and there were several stacks at the table w/ $600+. Fun times.

i dont see how this is a bad thing, but me personally if im winning good off my original $100 buyin (have it up over $400) and then a guy who wont chop or a guy i worry is a good player, if he decides to cover me im getting up on my next BB. now if he only buyins $100, or im winning not much at all and dont have near that much in front of me then ill stay. id also stay if i was behind, no matter how much i had on the table.

Just a heads up-I've given El Dorado a try on a few Friday nights since the first of the year, and at least on that night of the week, it has been real good. 3-4 tables of 1-3 with buyin to highest stack (or maybe 75% of biggest stack), and 20-40 limit O-8 going each Friday night I've been there. The 1-3 games have played deep and easily bigger than a capped 2-5 game.

Are they still shuffling by hand at the El Dorado?

The games are Dorado gotten bigger recently or something? I used to play there quite frequently before 2018 and switched to Shoe because the games were bigger and I had built up a big enough bank roll.

Dorado week day games were always OMC reg fest but weekends were decent with visitors coming in and not knowing what they were doing. The limiting factor was stack sizes there on the weekends. Some games I'd be the biggest stack with $300. I'm intrigued to go back and give them another shot if their weekend games have gotten better.

Bump.... any shoe players that can tell if match the big stack has made much of a difference there. Can you still buy in for 300 or would you be a short stack.

You wont be the short stack if a new table is started. However if you join a game that has been running, multiple players have $500 stacks. Occasionally you see a couple $1k+ stacks and some people that are new to the table will match them. I usually just buy in for like $400-$500 and only buy in for more if the $1k stack are spewtards.

I got kicked out of the Horseshoe Bossier City poker room tonight for asking questions about the tournament by poker room manager Chad Disante. Both him, and one of his dealers Steven Green responded by raising their voice at me in the middle of the poker room. I asked about the betting rules. Multiple players were going out to bet with hands full of chips and randomly putting out chips. Would be defined as string bets or illegal bets anywhere else basically. Chad said he don't like betting lines and that was that. Then, I noticed we were 11 handed and some other tables were definitely 10 handed, and maybe some 9 handed. This is what prompted Chad to kick me out. He brought me my $340 I was in the tournament for and had security escort me out.

That type of betting is standard for this part of the country (and most everywhere I've played including Vegas). I've never played 11 handed here, but 10 handed is also common and standard here. Are you not from this area?

1) having played at the El and seen how disputes have been handled I suspect Chad description of this encounter would be very different.

2) while 9 is standard for cash and 10 for tournaments, I have plenty of places which play 10 for cash. NBD if you ask me. Similar if making a tournament table of 11 gets another runner in, I am not objecting. Maybe someone else here could elaborate why 11 would be so bad.

3) as I remember El tables do not have a betting line at all. It is very common in many places to allow player to bring out a stack, cut out a bet from this stack and then bring back the rest. True I have played places that don’t allow this, but those are much fewer and generally not the best rooms.

Anyone hearing any talk of either Shreveport room reopening anytime? I know a couple of LA rooms are open. No idea why Shreveport remains closed. BR and NOLA I understand. Heck Shreveport doing better than SWLA.

Can anyone provide an update to what is going on with poker in Shreveport/Bossier City? Are these rooms open? If so, they aren't updating their Bravo App. Tried calling too. Not good huh?

AFAIK, neither Horseshoe nor Eldorado rooms are open; certainly were not when I was there not too long ago.

Currently LA is back at a modified covid phase 2. LA had three rooms open: Harrahs NOLA, GN Lake Charles and Coushata (tribal). The phase 2 did not require poker to shutdown but GN did. The other two remain open. I don’t expect either Shreveport room to open while LA is at phase 2 but when back at phase 3, will either room open? When?

My second question is that since both rooms are now CET properties and they were not overflowing precovid do they both reopen at all? If only one does, which one? I would assume Horseshoe given it has significantly more tables.

Both Horseshoe and Bally’s (former Eldarado) are open and have been for awhile. I have not been since they reopened but it seems more action has shifted to Ballys including the Thur mid FL game. Note both are on Bravo.
