I was there for the tourney, I busted out during the 10th level, no remarkable hands I had just been shortstacked for a while, won a few all ins, the finally lost a flip.

I think you dealt at my starting table, rod. I was at table 38, seat 1. By the end of the down the table had been talking about that coffee they sell after cats have eaten the beans.

Long time lurker, first time poster. I have Rod to thank for that since my talk of the half-and-half PLO/NLHE game made him say "Are you from 2+2? Then you know who I am." I think the guy to my right might have gotten it too but he didn't speak up.

The tourney (while well run as always) was a big bust for me. Best cards I saw were two 5's and they got beat. Last hand gave me a glimmer of hope: Shove Q6o from the BB, get an overshove plus two callers, flop two pair, then get them counterfeited by the river. Done by level 6.

After a smoke break, it was off to the 1/2 tables where the uneventfulness continued. After another three hours of play, I was down a whopping $4 and my ride was ready to head home.

I'll be back for the next one. If anyone played with a guy wearing a blue t-shirt with a cartoony hot dog, it was great to meet you. And a special thanks to Rod for finally getting me to post here after a year of lurking!

I called one time and was told I should just book a room at the regular rate, then after I have played 5 hours, to tell the poker supervisor know, who would call someone and get me the cheaper rate. Is it really this easy? It just sounds a bit fishy, as I wouldn't think you could do this for _any_ room (suites, etc.). I don't need a fancy room anyway, but I would hate to book something and then end up having to pay the higher price just because I didn't do this right. Also wondering if you can get the poker rate and also pay for the room with your comp dollars. Thanks!
First, yes you can pay for anything at the casino with your comp dollars....

As for the Poker rate, right now it is active for Sunday - Thursday. As to how to get it, my best advice would be to call the poker room and ask to speak to a PIT MANAGER (the floor people won't really know) and find out the best way to handle it.

Right now they don't have a Poker rate for Sat or friday, as the boat just doesn't have the number of rooms that a place like Harrahs has (especially with their new tower).

I called yesterday about the poker room rate and talked to a woman who makes reservations. She said that how it works is people play 5 hours of poker AND THEN go to the floorperson and tell them they want a room for that night. I told her how that seemed inconvenient that you couldn't book the room ahead of time but she said that you could, but you'd have to pay the regular price initially and then got the credit/discount after you play the poker.

She could have been wrong though.

Since you actually don't "pay" for the room till you check out, this would seem to make sense...

I would double check with the poker room though....since they are the ones who have to "make the call", they should know what the procedure is...and again, as to speak with a Pit Manager, as it is probably their responsibility and the d/r floor people probably don't know the exact policy.

I got basically the same information when I inquired at the poker room desk a couple of weeks ago. One more bit of information they gave me is that the poker rate is subject to availability. I then asked directly, "So I could end up booking the room in advance, putting in the hours of play and then get stuck paying the full room rate because there are no rooms left at the poker rate?" The reply was, "Yes." I let them know that the Boat was the only casino in AC to my knowledge that operated this way. They said they'd look into making it possible to book rooms in advance at a poker rate.

I was wondering this also...are you sure? Room charges too? Is it dollar-for-dollar?

The person I asked made it sound like there was no limit to the number of people who could pay the poker rate. It definately sucks for it to work this way if there is a limit.

There really should be some definative answer to this. Maybe one of the nice fellows who works there could tell the management that there are a lot of interested parties?

If you charge things back to your room, when you check out they will ask you if you want to use your comps to pay....if you say yes, they will charge off your bill on a dollar for dollar basis...if you do not have enough comps to pay entire bill they will let you know and ask how you want to pay for the remainder. If you have more comp dollars than your total bill, then all is good and your bill will be totally paid for and you'll have some level of comp dollars left.

Pretty simple....

I got a poker rate room once, and paid with my comps, but the room taxes still need to be paid like a comp room would, with cash or to your card. And yes, it's dollar for dollar.

I don't understand why availability would be an issue if you've already got your room reserved.

Showboat sets aside X number of rooms with a poker rate. There could be 50 rooms vacant in the whole casino, but if all of those X poker rate rooms are already filled, they can not give out the poker room rate, even if someone has met the requirements and has paid the regular rate.

That is why Borgata's poker rate is hard to get even on a weekday. You think they sell out 2,000 rooms on a Tuesday evening in September? No. The poker room is only allotted X amount of rooms at a poker rate.

Stupid, I know. But Harrah's and Borgata are a business.

I know at some places (the Taj for example), you may not be able to reserve a poker rate ahead of times on some nights, but if you are there late that evening and there are plenty of rooms available, you can get it at the last minute. Still not good for someone coming from out of town who needs to make sure he has a place to stay though.
