So I have not had the chance to visit the poker room since the food menu was introduced. Anyone know what is on the menu and prices? Is it even worth it or just it better to go over to HOB and eat?

I think the dealers at the Showboat are great, on the whole. I have played there a few times in the last several months, and almost all of the dealers are very friendly and very capable. They sometimes chat with players (one was telling us how his iPhone has broken 6 times since he got it), but not too much - it keeps things interesting.

Once, when I had a belligerent player who was cursing a lot (and generally acting like a moron) at the table, the dealer very politely tried to urge him to act a little bit more appropriately. The guy basically refused, and the dealer dealt with it in very good fashion, calling the floor only as a last resort.

Overall, I've been very pleased with the Showboat's dealers and floor.

Heading down Sat. night. I along with several of my cousins will be playing in the 7 p.m. tourney and cash games afterwards. (Do i hear PLO?) We are actually bringing our grandfather along as a "birthday present" and buying him in to the tourney as well. Would be cool to meet some 2+2ers.

Pauperboy - I think you or one of your cousins was at my table and my friends table for a while. My buddy was the kid that looks like he was 15 sitting at table 6 (I think it was 6 not sure), he had a green shirt on, glasses, and they made him wear a blue wristband..he said he was with like 5 of those from your group..he mentioned a hand where he had AA and someone had A9 or 99 or something? I was at the table near the window kind of diagonal from that, I was in seat one wearing the black and yellow t shirt with the beard. The person from your group that sat at my table was sitting talking to the grandpa for a bit, until the table eventually broke up after we played 5 handed for a bit. Person at my table had sunglasses on his head, gelled dirty blonde hair I think?

I was at the Showboat on Saturday night. The room was pretty busy. The 5-5 game was going, as usual, and there were a few 2-5 NL games, as well. I wasn't there all too long, but started out playing 1-2 NL for about an hour and a half. It was very uneventful. I won one small hand, and that's about it.

They called a $60+15 Sit & Go interest list, so I decided to join it. From the time they called a complete list to the start of the Sit & Go took about 30 minutes. Everyone had to go to the cage to register and pay (just like any regular Showboat tournament) and there was only one person in the cage, so it took a while to get going. Finally, one of the players didn't have a Total Rewards card, so it took about 15 minutes until he was ready.

The blind structure is pretty fast, as expected. We started with 2000 in chips, and the blinds were in 15 minute levels. The tournament started at 25/50, and the progression was: 50/100, 100/200, 200/400, 300/600, 400/800, 600/1200. We still had 7 players left at the 300/600 level, and I believe there were 6 at the 400/800 level.

Personally, I feel I played pretty well, though I finished in 4th. I tried to be aggressive and pick good moments to pick up blinds, etc. The hand where I lost, I was on the Small Blind, and had K7. I only had about 2000 left and everyone folded to me, so I went all in. Since the big blind had already put in 1200, he only had to call about 800. He did, and turned over 4-3. I felt great seeing that, but he hit a 3 on the turn to beat me. Oh well - I think it was well worth the $75. I enjoy tournaments a lot more than cash games, and I think I play better in them. Almost 7 times out of 10 I would've won that hand and placed in the money (payout was $300 1st, 180 2nd, 120 3rd, like a normal online Sit & Go), so I have no regrets.

The normal set of dealers were there. One minor thing - if possible, I'd love for the Sit & Go's to be on an auto-shuffle table. There may have been no such tables available, so it's understandable. The dealers ranged from really great and fast (a young guy and a younger woman - Susan maybe?) to very slow (an older gentleman). The slower dealers are competent, their shuffling speed is just not as good.

Overall, I think all of the players were fairly good. The only other Sit & Go's I have done are the cheap winner take all tournaments at The Plaza in Las Vegas ($20-$30), where you get a much different (and less skilled) crowd. In those Sit & Go's, people are pretty wild and make really bad plays. In contrast, at the Showboat, most players were fairly conservative and their play was pretty predictable, which allowed me to steal a lot of blinds along the way. One guy was ultra tight until he withered away, but everyone else was pretty good.

All in all, an enjoyable night.

They have been running them since the Poker Room was upstairs. This Saturday they just happened to get three or four going. Other times, they arent able to get any going. Showboat will gladly run them if they have enough players no matter what day of the week it is. Spread the word.

So rod what was the big suprise?
08-12-2008 , 11:58 AM
I played there for the third time last saturday since the new room opened and I would say it is definitely my favorite room on the Boardwalk.
Dealers were good, action was good and the floor lady handled my table change professionaly: I wanted to change to a table with shufflers, even though I suspected that there was a huge fish at my table. It was a blond kid that barely looked 21 at the table which was on the far left corner.

I'll be there next Saturday again, I'll try to spot a Rod or a Mike. I am easy to recognize, I will be the guy with a French accent

Yeah... what was this surprise?

Chris, the PR, told me that the big secret is a WSOP ACADEMY event. It will be in November. If I remember correctly he said it will be on the 26th. It will cost $1500. Registration is open now. Two Pros I remember him saying will attend are Greg Raymer and Hevad Kahn. There should be a total of seven pros at the event. There will be a tournament that evening and the first place winner will receive a five thousand dollar voucher good for any WSOP tournament/satellite anywhere in the US. Im not sure what the max amount of ppl aloud is, but seeing that people are already registering, I would advise anyone interested to sign up ASAP. I will keep everyone posted when I learn more.

Correction: The WSOP ACADEMY event will be held on Sat Nov 22nd and on Sun Nov 23rd. It is a 2-Day event. Other pros that are attending that I didn't already mention are Joe Navarro and Alex Outhred. For more info, including the Itenerary, click the link.http://www.wsopacademy.com/event_13.php

Off topic but since you started it...

I can't imagine there is much value in these Academys/Boot Camps for most people that post of 2+2. $1500 for two days and only one game? Hotel not included!? While I would love to hear Raymer and Khan (subject to change without notice BTW!!!) I can't see $750 a day to hear them talk about how we should play tight up front, gap concept, buble play, blah, blah, blah.

I think $1500 towards some one on one coaching would be better. Hell, take the money and play some 2/5 NL and profit!

But kudos to the Boat for trying something new.

You make a good point. I think some value experiences and lessons with pros more than others. As for the room rates, I will see if there is anyway that can be changed. If this event was held in the middle of the week, there isnt a doubt in my mind you would get a free room, but seeing as it will be a Saturday, it will be very tough to secure everyone a room.

I'm playing in the 65 tourney tonight. Look for the hammered kid in the green collared shirt.

I saw mention earlier that there will be the $30 sngs for the Sept 13th tourney, but it didn't say if they were going yet. Has anyone played in any? Are they going off regular?

The thirty dollar satellites have started and they are going off anytime they can get 10 players. GL

Hey guys - I made anotehr thread about this, but I figured that I'd throw it in here as well. I haven't been to the Showboat in forever.

OK so I'm planning on going down to AC in the next couple days with a few buddies. They are total fish and totally admit it. They don't care if they lose a few hundo as long as they have a good time, but they'd like to at least have a shot.

My question is: where's the softest 1/2 game in AC to take them to? I play 5/10 so I play exclusively at Borgata. If the 1/2 game is good there, then I'll take them there. But I've heard that some of the smaller casinos (Showboat, Trop, etc.) have some super easy 1/2 games.

Note: One of my buddies asked me earlier today if a flush beats a straight. That's how bad they are.

Am finally making my first trip to the Showboat poker room this Sat am. If I get there around 11am, will there likely be a wait for cash games, due to the 11am tournament? I generally play 1-2 and 2-5NL.

Couple other questions:

Is there a desk with an electronic sign-up board like the Borgata, or do they just keep a written waiting list?

Can you buyin at the table, or do you need to get chips from the cage first like the Borg?

Finally are there any good cheap lunch places at the Showboat (like a food court or burger place?)

Thanks!

Electronic wait-list board. Just go to the podium in front of the entrance to the room.

They prefer that your first buy-in be from the cashiers cage. Any additional re-buys can come from the table.

In Showboat, there is the Mansion Cafe, where they have a $4.00 burger special as well as other decent priced items. The House of Blues restaurant is right next to the poker room and has a burger/fries for $10.00. The Showboat poker room also has a mini-menu, but I do not know what is on it or what prices are. If you really want a good burger, walk over to Trump Taj and go to "Burger".
