It grew out of a regular group of people who played 2/5 and would often try to get a 5/10 going.
Here is the deal:
- 5/5 blinds (of course)....
- White chips do not play...only on the table for the rake and bad beat jackpot drop and when people chop up a fiver for tips...
- Buy-in is $300-$1000 (this is the big difference: normal 2/5 buy in is $100-500. Anybody who has played 2/5 has sat there while someone sits down and buys in short for 100....and is all in by the flop....) by increasing the minimum it keeps these "hit and run" types off the table.
- Most people buy in for $500+, with about 75% buying in for the full $1,000.
- Preflop action can be family limp fest for $5, or an opening raise to about $25....A raise to $15 won't get it done if you are looking to drive A-rag and small connectors out of the hand...
- After table going for a couple of hours...usually around $10,000 - $15,000 in play depending on how many "big hands" and "feltings" there may have been.
- There is a core group of about 15 people who regularly play (not at the same time of course)...usually there are 5 "regulars" at the table.
- Even though many of the people know each other from playing in the game most weekends, there is not a lot of soft play...in fact the "regulars" will go after each other pretty hard, trapping, slow playing, etc....
- Lots of conversation....has somewhat of a "home game" feel...though new players often come in and do well and quickly get "in the swing of things".
If you feel comfortable with $1,000 on the table and pushing it into the middle when warranted, then this is a great game, and a lot of fun....
