Showboat had a $2,000,000 profit for the 1st Quarter & CET will still close it

A.C. is doomed due to regional gaming

Just heard a report on NYC 1010 wins that workers will be receiving notice today (2500 workers) that the casino may be closing. By law they must give notice within 60 days according to the report. So anyone still not believe?

Wha?? Do you really think that Showboat is being closed in order to consolidate POKER PLAYERS???

I'm sorry to see this happen. I've had lots of good times there, and most of the people who work there are really nice.

I hope that they manage to find good jobs somehow. Somewhere....

This is really going to further hurt the economy for A.C. and the surrounding area.

Hate to say it but AC is on life support now. Any casino closing is good. The international gaming report tgat came out two months ago said the same. The bottom line of other casinos, most likely other CET properties will go up. the proposed casinos in orange county NY will be the last nail in the coffin of AC. CET has an application in for a casino depite their promise not to do so. We amended the state constitution to allow them to have four casino licenses and they still ****ed us. Good for CET. Im glad Showboat is closing. I feel bad for the peopke losing their jobs, but not tye corporation. Hope they close another CET property if any other casino needs to close.
Their greed is going to further hurt my home state of NJ. The state's only chance to keep some gaming revenue within its borders is to allow casinos to build at the Meadowlands. One way or another AC will be dead or atvtye very least not a shadow of its former self.

Sad to hear about the Showboat, I always enjoyed my stays there. Unfortunately once the Parx and Sands opened I started going there, only hour drive compared to two hours to AC. AS I near retirement I used to think of retiring in South Jersey to be near AC but now I wonder if that will be the best place to be. As more casinos start closing . I guess at the end of the day you can probably count on five or six surviving but what will the boardwalk be like then.

Game Over August 31st. Not a table running according to Bravo.

Poker Room will be empty, unless they run some type of Going Out of Business Promotion.

Collect June Rakeback in July. May be the last.

Good Luck Dealers and Floor in securing next employment. In the Caesar's statement they did not say anything about finding a place in the other 3 properties or systemwise.

Sorry to see the showboat go. I think that the poker room to benefit most will be the Nugget. Any thoughts?

question about casino closures. do they auction stuff off? like could i buy a set of chips from them or something?

also, this used to be go-to poker room before Borgata blew up and i had some fun nights there and at House of Blues. One of the nicer casinos in that dump of a town imo, so im also sad to see it go. almost worked there at one point too.

AC desperately need sports betting if it is to survive. Shame the showboat is closing. As iterated, it was a nice place to stay and play (as opposed to its next door neighbor The Taj) and I always liked that the poker room was right on the boardwalk; but it had to happen...there are too many poker rooms for the poker traffic AC is getting right now.

Personally, I find these comments about how "nice" the casino was/is hilarious. Granted, I enjoyed the poker room and went there regularly on weekends to play tournaments. I also had some fun evenings playing BJ in the house of blues pit. But, otherwise, the Boat was a dump, especially of late.

(1) The hotel rooms were atrocious. Old; broken down furniture; stained carpets, curtains; overall dirty; showers hardly worked (often just a trickle from 20-year old shower heads). I think part of this might have been due to cutbacks in housekeeping, etc (sort of like what happened to the Trop before it was put in receivership years ago). As a Diamond, they'd occasionally ask me at check-in "where I wanted to go. Apparently, the tower off the center of the casino floor is supposedly nicer than the tower by the starbucks. Um. If you say so. It may be newer. And those rooms may have a 40-inch flat screen. But they were just as disgusting. I spent 4 nights there last month and the room was so filthy, I vowed never to stay there again . . . even if it was the only comped room I could find for the weekend.

(2) The casino is always empty/filled with old people. Terrible vibe (again, HOB's pit aside). Plus, for the past 6 months, the area near the front entrance has smelled like vomit. At first, I thought the smell was coming from Earl of Sandwich. Eventually, however, I realized it was not. I mean, seriously, it's the first thing that hits you when you walk in the door. You can't fix that?

Again, I did enjoy the poker room. Generally liked the dealers and the staff. Thought they did a great job. There were also a handful of great people working there (particularly Dave, the bartender at Scarducci's . . . incredibly nice guy). I hope all the employees land softly. But, in the end, I won't miss the Boat very much. Hopefully Bally's WWW will pick up the player base from the weekend tournaments . . .

Didn't the boat use to have pictures of naked women on the walls in the old poker room? Or was that resorts?

If it wasn't already declared dead this week by the Supreme Court, it wouldn't matter. Sports betting in Vegas represents less than 2% of overall revenue.
Atlantic City's casino revenue has dropped more than 50% since 2006.

But people who come down to bet sports during the weekends of the NFL season and during first 2 weeks of NCAA tournament also gamble in the pits and sometimes play poker.

I'll miss the showboat. That was my favorite AC venue. It's always been my go-to place for cheap tournaments. Cheap tourneys plus free parking for any cardholder back in the day got me hooked. Even today, it still is my favorite place and is great for trips because they have my girlfriend's favorite slots and, in her opinion, the best free drinks in AC with their strawberry daquiris.

They may or may not sell stuff off. Wait for announcements on that. As ofr chips, buy them now. Anything left will be destroyed in accordance with established procedures. Remember, under NJ state law the chips can always be redeemed even after the casino is closed.

The price usually goes up at that point, not down. People collect them

I also hate to see Showboat close. Nice poker room with great views.

It was my first free room ever from Caesars.

Will now try Bally's WWW.

One of my favorite rooms for low buy-in tournaments. Have a few tournament cashes at this place. Mike was one the nice dealers and floor.

The view of the boardwalk was one of its plus points.

We will miss you Showboat!

Think I only played there once when I was down with friends. They liked the no-ante tournaments.

Really stoopid question, are the daily tournaments still running?

Me and the gf went yesterday morning as she was craving some MTT action. The Bally's 11am wasn't running so we called Showboat, and yes - they are still running the daily tourneys. The Sunday 11am went off with 29 runners total, the 2pm started with I believe 18 runners. The gf chopped the 11am with 4 people. (there, found a place to put the brag )

Now, that does not necessarily mean every daily will run. But in the past 2 months, every time we've gone to the Boat (4 times minimum, both weeknights and weekends), their daily tourneys were always running.

I'm going to miss the showboat. The room was always small and never had tons of tables/traffic, but can anyone disagree the room just has a better overall feel than the Bally's WWW? And again, can't beat the tourneys at Showboat in my opinion.
07-07-2014 , 04:04 PM
Do they still do a monthly tournament of champions for everyone who won a daily at 1 of the 3 properties?

To end all the rumors going around:

I got confirmation via mail this week that Showboat will be closing as of August 31st. Hotel reservations, promotions, etc. slated for September onward will not be honored. This comes direct from CET.

Sorry to see it close. Have many fond memories of the poker room, club, shows, and hotel stays. Hopefully with the closing of this property, CET will focus on the other 3 and restore more promotions and cheaper room rates. Only time will tell.
