So I guess I'll just check Bravo that night and see what my options are. If all else fails, having to avoid the Borg, the Taj is probably my best bet on the boardwalk and Harrahs or GN by the Marina, right?
You got a better chance of playing with the tooth fairy then getting a 2/5 game at GN or Showboat during the week. besides the Borgata, maybe Harrahs in the marina and Taj on the boardwalk.

Chopped the 5k gtd last night. 210 entries, chopped 7 ways. There was no where to play at the final table, as the chip leaders had about 5 bigs. At least doubled the guarantee.

How much was the chop for?

After all the rumors that have been floating around recently, I heard from a pretty reliable source that Showboat will indeed be closing its poker room in the very near future ... stay tuned for more details

Congrats! You're the 100th person who has posted that in the last 5 years!!!!

I will believe it when I see it.

But I think I'm the first one who actually has a chance of being right this time ... but then again who knows!

Haha!

I first started playing in A.C. some 7 or 8 years ago. The same rumors were floating around then, and ever since.

Unless ACDan has specifically said something in regards to this - or someone else who would REALLY know - then I wouldn't place any faith in any rumor.

In light of Gary Loveman and Gary Thompson's recent public comments to the investment community I don't think there should be any surprise about rumors about Showboat's fate. When the CEO and the corporate spokesman openly discuss the possibility of reducing CET's capacity in AC they are not idly musing, they are preparing investors.

7 or 8 years ago is about the time the room was being moved to its current location. Nobody was talking about closing it then.

Sorry, I misread the original statement. Rumors of Showboat being closed or sold were going around. Not specifically the poker room, from what I recall.

Can someone post the blind structure?

Rumors are getting hotter. Players interviewed off camera on Fox29 Philly seem to think that sometime in September, after the summer season, is the potential closing date.

In lieu of the bankruptcy announcement by Revel and the notification of their employees with the 60 Day heads up of closure, look for a similar employee announcement in Mid-July.

Caesar's has to jettison some of its underperforming properties and unfortunately the Showboat because of Atlantic City's "too many casinos to support" is near the top of the list.

The momentum to shrink casino footage is kicking into high gear.

Caesar's moved their Atlantic Club property yesterday to the same hoteliers that took over the Claridge.

i was told by a dealer friend who has friends working at showboat tell me theyve been told that showboat closes labor day,and should start looking for new employment.

I also heard from dealers and others that Showboat will be closing September 17th and that letters to union members who had to be informed 90 days prior had been sent out.

This sounded pretty definitive but I have a friend who plays at Showboat a lot & says his host says this is just a rumor and they are booked through October & beyond.

Does anyone have any new info?

I agree with you about liking Showboat better, but look at the revenue. "IF" CET shuts one, it has to be Showboat.

i frequent the showboat, love the tourneys and poker room, love the place in general..but the tell-tale sign that i've noticed is...when i go to book rooms online at showboat, the costs of the rooms starting in september are INSANE ($200-$300 per night on weeknights), while i'm comped at ballys and harrahs..before this, i was always comped at showboat..it looks like they are preventing people from making reservations starting with september (which is the rumored closing month)

I agree that IF CET shuts a casino down, it's going to be Showboat. However, rumors abounding doesn't equal truth that something will happen. It may well happen (look at Gary Loveman's statement about another casino needing to close) or it may not.

IF 90 day notices are required for at least some workers, and IF they have already been sent out - then this would be in the news. It isn't, and therefore I conclude that this hasn't happened.

What are the players saying?
06-26-2014 , 09:59 PM
I'm staying there 2 nights next week. I'm bummed, it was my 2nd favorite place to play in AC
06-27-2014 , 01:08 AM
Very sad. Obviously trying to consolidate all of their players into WWW and Harrah's rooms. Better to have 100 1-2 players spread 50/50 in 2 rooms than 100 players spread 40-30-20-10 over 4 rooms, from a cost perspective. I understand how and why, but it's still really sad to me, for my friends involved.

I stayed at Showboat a few weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised at how nice the rooms were and the overall condition of the place. I can say the opposite about Caesars and Ballys, which I also visited, and have both definitely gone downhill recently. Hopefully this closure will mean more resources into their other AC properties rather then just downsizing, although that probably won't be the case.

I hope they do not close the place altogether, but rather sell it to a hotel operator.
