Paul plays a ton at the Plaza. I've played many, many hours with him and never seen him try to angleshoot, but people keep saying it so maybe he just chills when I'm around. He does try to act crazy/stupid so people will play bad against him and has a real knack for getting under people's skin. Some of the grinders think his elevator doesn't go all the way to the top floor, I think it's just an act. I don't agree with the idea of pissing people off to get them to play bad against you, but whatever. Paul beats the 1/2 games in AC pretty good.

Its an act. He's a smart guy. He does **** like when someone is about to call his bluff, he'll pretend to table his hand and say "set of threes". and then act like he realized they didn't call yet.

when facing a bet, he'll also table his hand and announce his cards to try to convince a player that he called to get a reaction.

I don't have a problem with him, I just think its funny that he got tricked at his own game.

I'm not saying he can't play without shooting an angle. When he sees a good opportunity to angle shoot, he takes it. Doesn't mean he can't beat the game straight up.

More hands per hour + no tips to dealers + lower rake is a reason to play at the plaza despite not being able to angle shoot.

What's up Rob...why would you want to play at an electronic table when you can play with chips and live people??

Have you checked out the new Showboat room yet?
Its closer to the Taj Mahal, so its easier to visit their snack bar.

I played there 7-3 and 7-5.
7-3 I played no limit and 7-5 I played the 2pm tournament.

The Showboat has become my new favorite room.

Hope all is well.

Well just wanted to say that I played at the showboat Friday night. 100% best staff and friendly dealers.

However the poker playing left a lot to be desired... seemed like the tables were full of nitty grinders with maybe 1-2 fishy types.

I tried playing at the Taj and it was almost the exact opposite. Staff seemed ok, dealers seemed irritated, but the tables were softer with 1-2 nitty grinders.

The grinders at the Taj seemed to be more homeless/bummy/unkept. I also got angleshot once and attempted angleshot many times at the Taj, while this was not an issue at the Showboat.

So overall the Showboat is nicer and friendlier but I seem to be able to make more money at the Taj. But of course 1 weekend is probably not an adequate sample size.

Decided not to play the Showboat tournament after getting steamrolled in their cardroom live with AA<A8 and AT<T5 the previous night playing live cash, but congrats to those that did and cashed!

I have a very important question regarding the boardwalk and AC in general. I live outside Atlanta and will be in NJ next week for the family vaca. For one day, and one day only, I'll be escaping the family and heading to AC (tuesday 7/22) probably spending most of my time playing at the boat.

my question:
where can I get the best slice of pizza on the boardwalk? Since I live in GA, I can't get the good greasy pizza that I used to get on the boardwalks of Wildwood, AC etc... Someone please send me in the right direction. thanks.

The pizza at the stand at the entrence to the Steel Pier on the Boardwalk (opposite the Taj) is pretty good and greasy....other than that I don't really know...but I would assume any of the pizza spots on the boardwalk has your traditional greasy NY Style pizza that should satisfy your pizza jones.

Went over to the boat yesterday morning for some 1/2nl. Long lists and was told by one of the dealer's that they didn't have enough floor people to open another cash game and there were only 2 going + the tournament.

Thanks showboat, I had to go to the Taj. Now I have pink eye.

I remember last September (around middle of the month) they did a $250 tournament that they held downstairs in the ballroom. It had a decent structure and they had a guarantee.

Has there been any news regarding them doing this again?

The structure wasn't outstanding but it was better than most and I would say I enjoyed myself.

They ran one in March and they just ran the third one last Saturday (7/12/08), there was a ton of posts about both of them....

Their next one has already been announced . Saturday, September 13th, 2008

I would bet it was an issue of waiting for a Tournament table to break to free up a dealer...

They probably had more tournament players than they expected so that "ate" up their dealer supply...

Sounds like an issue with only having a pit manager and not a pit + floor. You can only have so many games open per floor manager/supervisor or else the CCC jumps on you for being out of compliance.

I like playing there, the staff is great, but there should be no reason that they can't open more than 8 tables at noon. Thats not even a third the size of the room.

Whats the point of opening a new room if they aren't going to use it? They could have fit 8 games in the older smaller room just as easily.

Is there a shortage of people looking for jobs in this industry?

Unfortunately, we are still very understaffed as far as pit managers/supervisors. However, 2 dealers just got promoted to supervisors within the last week, so it should improve very soon once they get done with their training. The post above is correct. The pit can only open up a certain amount of tables per CCC regs, so if there is not a supervisor to help out, they cannot open more tables than they are allowed.

TO ALL 2+2'ERS THAT PLAY AT SHOWBOAT:

As many of you know, I deal at Showboat along with rod. We need your help. Today, curtains have been installed in the room that completely block out the boardwalk/ocean view that we have. We finally got something to make us unique and stand out, and now it's gone. From what I heard, the order came from someone high in the company above anyone in our room. My guess is that they don't want people to see when it turns dark at night or when the sun comes up in the morning. That would be fine if it were a slot room or table games where the house makes much more.. but the poker room??

I know many of you have praised the fact that we have a great atmosphere and that you do enjoy the view. If this is the case, speak up when you come visit us. One of my managers said if enough people speak up, it might make a difference. I know that today at work a lot of players were pretty upset about the new change, and a few of them said "Now Showboat is just another room again.." because of this.

I loved the fact that we had the nice view. Sure, some days when the sun shined brightly or when the glare got too bad on the cards on some of the tables by the window, we would have to close the blinds. But overall, it made us unique, and most of us enjoyed it.

Yes would be nice to have more than 2 NL games going at once. I had to wait and somehow ended up in the 2 p.m tourney with 90k in chips dumping to 2 outer with 28 to go. Showboat great place to go if you want "sushi". Games super soft lot of "greys" there that want to gamble with us youngins. Mike tell Sydney no more two outers on turn!!!

I have yet to find a good slice of pizza in AC... fwiw the pizza you can order in the poker room at the Boat is fairly edible.. very dry crust though

disclaimer: small sample size so take it with a grain of salt

Mike,

Thats a bummer.

The thing that I like/liked most about the new room was the view of the boardwalk/ocean. That view gave the room an element none of the other rooms have a feeling of life.

I certainly will say something the next time I visit the room.

That blows. I'll definitely make a stink each time I stop by.

Now I'll have to go to the Borgata whenever I want an ocean view.

More and more, I am getting irritated with upper management that has no clue how to run a casino, and the manual they are using to run a casino was written 30 years ago. No clocks, no natural lighting, etc.

Does management not know that since the new room was open, the number of cash games running have almost doubled. Do they have any clue what brought the people to the room? Management probably thought people liked the new room becuase of those stupid painted shoes on the ceiling. They just have no clue.

I would say start a boycott, but then that hurts our friends at Showboat (Mike, Rod, etc.) more then the casino or upper management.

I will definately say something when I am there tomorrow. Everyone, we just need to get the word out and have them talk to the room manager. Maybe if we knew the name of this joke of a "manager", we could send some emails encouraging him to maybe listen to his customers.

When I was at Showboat last month, I really enjoyed the nice view (check out my posts). But unfortunately, too many dealers were enjoying the nice view as well, and I got pretty damned tired of calling the action and running the game.

As soon as PJ (were those the initials?) and all those other break-in dealers are up to speed, then your management should definitely consider opening up the curtains. Until then, let folks go to the beach when they want a view. When they go to a poker room, they should be able to get a poker game.

Better to have the view and the game, of course. But at least give me the friggin' game until you guys can handle both.
