In another thread someone posted that the Showboat was moving their poker room downstairs to the main casino floor. I have heard or seen nothing about this and I was there 2 weeks ago, no sign of construction down stairs either. Does anyone know anything about this and where it is going to be located if true?

doubt it

They already moved the back podium down. It's happening in March...all the way in the back near the boardwalk.

Its behind the escalator to go up to the poker room there is obvious construction...your blind imo. 28 tables with a ton of room to expand.

I saw the new poker area yesterday. It looks bigger than the old poker room. It also looked like it could be finished soon.
Two execs. types were talking to a workman.
I waited for a chance then asked when the poker room will be open.
They told me six weeks.

I guess i would have to walk around the back of the escalator to see it, I never said i completely scoped out every corner of the casino looking for it just that i didn't notice it... imo that does not make me blind but it does show how much class you have.

Thank you everyone else for your polite answers.

If you think that was un-classy, you must be new to the internets.

It seems to me like there are significantly more poker tables in AC then in Vegas. Am I wrong, and if not, anybody know why?

Could this be anywhere near the truth? All that AC has is about 250 tables maybe 300.

Vegas would have to have more.

Any chnace that showboat will be authorized to set up more tables or have their tournaments in separate area?

Hi all... I was at the Showboat last night, and I took a walk down to look at the new poker area. As others have described, the new room will be located on the main casino floor near the House of Blues Restaurant. In some ways, the new space reminded of the MGM Grand poker room in Las Vegas in the sense that the new area will be near a couple of bars. As a result, it will be a pretty loud place to play, especially as compared to the room's current location.

I'm not a great judge of space, but it looked only a little bit bigger than the current room. One of the dealers seemed to corroborate this observation, mentioning to another player at one of my tables last night that the new room will have about five more tables. I don't know how accurate that last statement is, but that is what he said.

IMHO, the new space will have a couple of advantages that should improve the poker experience at the Showboat. First, it will have a wall of windows overlooking the Boardwalk. I think that this will add great ambience, especially in the summer when the Boardwalk is a lively place.

Second, its location should draw in more foot traffic and, therefore, more casual players. This is always a great benefit to solid players.

All in all, I think that the Showboat has improved its poker operations a lot over the last year or so. From the quality of its floor, to its friendly and mostly competent dealers, to the improved structures of its MTTs, the Showboat has become one of the best rooms in Atlantic. My only gripe continues to be its comp system, which is complicated and just awful for poker players.

One final note: for the first time since I've played there, Showboat was spreading a $5/$5 NL game last night. In other words, there were no white chips in play in the game. Kellie, one of the floor managers, said it was the only game of its kind in AC.

They could probably get more authorized if they wanted. Day-to-day they probably don't want, but if they have a big event or series they get more. Somewhere in the filings for the last year or two there's a month where the Borgata lists 125 or something, when they had the Winter Open.

Kellie is hot as hell! To bad she is taken :-(
But she used to be a former dealer, so she's not just another suit that comes in and has no idea about poker or how to handle the day to day operations.

Anyone know what will be made of the old room? Showboat already has their own section of the casino floor for Asian gambool, so I'm curious to see what would happen to that space.

It would be cool if the 1st floor was cash games and the 2nd floor room was for tournaments, but since the tournaments average 70-90 people, it would be a major waste of space.

And the brethren all said, "Amen."

And then the brethren added, "Fannie is pretty good looking, too."

I have noticed that about the Showboat; their floors are former dealers. If that isn't the case for all poker rooms generally, it should be. What other job would make more sense logically to transition from to be a floor? Manager in some other business or in the pit? Not likely. But I'd like to hear the perspectives of floors that read this forum.

Can anyone elaborate on this game.....The idea of this running all the time just gave me wood......

Wow this is great news. Showboat was already my favorite room but often short on action on the weeknights. This new location should give it a nice boost of casual players.

More than 313. Vegas has fewer tables per room, on average, but it has many more rooms.

anyone know what's going in the old room?

I am looking forward to their arrival.

I was at the location of the new poker room yesterday. If the management wants, you will be able to see 85% of the poker room from the boardwalk. This should bring in casual players. Also it can be seen from a part of th main casino. This should have a similar effect. They may even be a crossover of poker players with the Taj. All good for poker at the showboat.
However there was no sign that any work was done in the last two weeks. It can still easily be finished by the end of March, as I was told two weeks ago.
It is now a large area in the casino bringing in exacty $0.00. So, why no work?

I just got back from Showboat last night. One of the floors in the poker room (middle-aged lady, sorry—don't know her name) told me they'll have enough space in the new poker room to add eight more tables, but they are only adding three at this time. A dealer told me the new tables will be electronic ones to be used for Sit 'n' Gos. The opening has been pushed back to April.

As for the 5-5 game: a regular told me it runs every weekend now. They opened the table for it sometime early friday afternoon while I was there.

The new area is slowly getting closer to being finished. I am told the expected opening dare is April, 17. They did not mention the expected year.
