I just returned from a day trip to Atlantic City, and ended up playing at the Showboat again today. I still have not met either of the Mike's that post in this thread. As a matter of fact, I had almost all female dealers throughout my session.
I arrived around 2 p.m. and was slightly disappointed to see nothing but $1/2 NL and $2/4 limit. I was hoping at least $3/6 LHE would be going, but there was not even a list for 3/6. I know Beaudog posted earlier in the thread that there was a $3/6 LHE game with a full kill going a few weeks ago on a Sunday afternoon, but $3/6 LHE has not been running the last few Sundays I have been at the Showboat.
I walked next door to the Taj and 2/4, 3/6 and 5/10 LHE all had at least four names on the list. Since I was just down for the day on a bus trip, I didn't really want to wait too long for a seat. I walked back over to the Showboat and decided to play $2/4 LHE for fun.
In the first 20 minutes I was there, I flopped a set of 4s, a set of kings and quad 5s. I know $2/4 LHE is a donkey game, but I still find myself shocked at how ******ed some of the players can be. In the hand where I flopped a set of kings, the guy next to me chastised me after the hand for raising pre-flop with KK. He told me that he never raises pre-flop because you never know where you are until after the flop. I just chuckled and said to him, "Yea, I was lucky to flop a third king."
After about three hours, my 2/4 table broke and I got moved to another 2/4 table. I had only played a few hands when Yessica came around to our table to ask if anyone was interested in playing a $60+15 sit 'n go. I had heard the floor call this sit n' go twice within the last hour and it never went. I asked how mahy seats were open yet, and she said one.
I decided to play the sit 'n go, since I had never played one at the Showboat before. I put my $51 profit from $2/4 toward the $75 SNG seat, but I was surprised when I got to the table and found that it was still two players short. Apparently, two of the players that were originally interested in the SNG bailed when they saw the structure. After waiting for about 30 minutes for the SNG to fill, I was starting to get nervous that I was going to miss my bus, even with the fast structure.
The floor was eventually able to round up two more players so the SNG could begin. I realize SNG live structures are bad everywhere, but some of the players in my SNG made the bad structure even worse by Hollywooding 60-90 seconds pre-flop. I wanted to scream, "Come on, people. The blinds go up every 15 minutes."
We started with 2,000 chips and blinds at 25/50. The people at the table played so slow that we played all of eight hands at the 25/50 level. I was horribly card dead throughout the entire SNG. As the blinds increased, I kept waiting for a hand to push with -- and it never came. I played all of three hands before my all-in hand: AK (flopped two pair and won a small pot), AQ (raised pre-flop, then folded to a bet after the flop) and pocket 3s (missed the flop and folded to a bet).
With the blinds at 300/600, I had 825 left when the big blind got to me. I knew I was moving all in with ATC. I ended up all in with Qh5h, and I knew I was pretty much done. Three people called my all in, and the board had nothing for me. I busted out in sixth place.
On the third hand of the SNG, a guy busted with pocket 9s on a 10 high flop. I just sat there thinking, "How the hell can anyone go broke on the third hand in that spot."
I still love playing at the Showboat because of the friendly floor and dealers, but I don't know that I would play another SNG there. There really didn't seem to be much play for $75. Like I siad, I still love playing at the Showboat, but that's JMO.
The new Showboat room is such a comfortable place; I wish they would be able to get some larger limit games running more frequently.
