Instead of a high hand promo for cash, maybe they will start a promo that gives you 10 free parking passes.

I don't believe that's what the supervisor was implying, in the context of this discussion the "offset" was trying to help poker players with the parking fees. There was no discussion of raising the rake.

I should have been more clear: in my opinion, the only way poker players will get any "offset" is by paying increased rake.

At least they are keeping their promise that the change will increase security. It will now take garage thieves at least an hour to try to make their getaway.

Good point, they did keep their promise...

except for the part about "FREE" parking in the north street level lot, LOL... that went out the window pretty quick, about the day after the new "fee" based parking went into effect. Reminds me of this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qd8hy032uLc

Of course if THR's rumored revenue projection of $70 million a year from the new parking fees comes even close to hitting that number then the couple dozen or so $8/hr security guards they hired, better lighting plus the kiosks should give them a profit margin of roughly $69.5 million a year from parking fees alone and customers get "enhanced" security...DEAL!!!

$70 million a year? Isn't that 7 million cars a year, or over 19,000 every day for 365 days? I think the parking garages have a capacity of around 1000 each. Take away elite parking, comped parking, etc, and it seems hard to believe they could approach anywhere near that figure.

I hate the fee as much as the next guy, but that rumor just seems a bit over the top.

It does seem way high...

John Romano wrote an interesting column in the Tampa Bay Times today criticizing the $10 parking fee and noting the Seminoles already rake in 2.2 billion. He implies the state of Florida is also complicit in this. Perhaps this line of reasoning will motivate state politicians to apply pressure to the Seminoles to withdraw the parking fee.

The day before, Samuel Howard also penned an anti-parking column in the business section of the Tampa Bay Times including comments from a poker player chosing to drive past the Hardrock to park for free at Tampa Bay downs. It looks like the pressure to reverse is starting

not that i want to side with the hard rock (on anything really) but this article is pretty crappy in it's bias and cherry-picked arguments. he mentions 2.2 billion in annual revenue and that only 220 million was paid to the state until last year. he never mentions that the new pact has the hard rock paying 3 billion a year to the state which not only consumes their revenues but pushes the hard rock to increase revenues.

i'm not happy about the parking fees. we'll see if it ends up producing more revenue than they lose from angry patrons who stop coming or not, and that will probably be the deciding factor on whether or not they keep it.

but this article makes their profits seem way higher than they are.

someone please correct me if i'm misunderstanding the renewed pact.

The 3 billion you refer to in the proposed (and rejected) agreement is payable over 7 years, not annually.

The parking fee is a money grab pure and simple.

My buddy did it in a about a week playing slots. He cant help himself from putting hundreds of dollars into a machine. On the way out one night(5 feet from the escalator) I watched him dump $1100 into one.

I love seeing the morning/day games dwindling each day. I'll happily play Derbys 1/3 game and better promos daily until something changes

Played twice last weekend. Annoyed by the parking fees. Will explore other options.

To travel further over $10 probably not worth it, but I will at least explore it as an option. Interesting to see what will happen over the next 6 months.

I haven't played this month and don't plan to anytime soon unless there is a tourney worth it. This parking fee is not a small charge - it's really more about the hassle and the fact that I feel like I'm getting porked. They're a private company, and everything they do is essentially a 'money grab', yet a $10 fee to walk into a casino and spend hundreds is a bit much for a lot of people to stomach.

I used to always like coming to play for only a couple of hours - I'll never do that again at the hard rock now because of the instant $10 charge the moment I show up.

I know another casino that charges for parking. If you play 1 or 2 hours (I can't remember, it's been a year since I played there) of poker, your parking is validated. They don't take it out of your comps or anything.

I hope the Hard Rock implements something like this.

Thought is was pretty ironic that HR LV tweeted about how their parking is free unlike other LV casinos that started charging

@HardRockHotelLV
Unlike some people we know whose names we won’t mention, parking is still #free at Hard Rock Vegas. #HRHLV

Dealer just told me that the room supervisor is currently in Miami discussing the parking situation with management. Evidently, Tampa is the test casino to see if Hollywood starts charging.

On a side note, he also said September promotion will be if you play 72 hours for the month, you get $250 in chips. That would certainly help offset the parking.
