Could consider using the 90% of your comps that are going to waste on drinks?

Apparently I have to use my "Comps" to pay for parking now... lol But can you actually use your comp points for drinks at the table? Had no idea that you could... Although I honestly don't drink that much at the table anyways, but would honestly buy it for others at the table if they were going to waste anyways....

You can use them at the table.

Is drinkin at the table that bad? I mean obviously going on monkey tilt and having 7 drinks like me is awful, but I can't imagine a beer or two being so bad.

As money hungry as this place is I've got to give credit where it is due. Came to degen on a date with my significant other tonight and we placed a $51 voucher and $10
Bill in to the roulette table. While trying to explain to her how roulette works she accidentally selected some sort of button that placed a bunch of bets on various black numbers. Next thing I know the screen says "last bet $61 dollars".

Said something to the employees about it and next thing I know they're handing me $61 cash. Good on them.

Nothing wrong with it... Just not my cup of tea. I'm not the social "have 1 or 2" kinda guy, I either want to get drunk, or just stay sober.... and if I'm getting drunk, I'd much rather it be in a place where the girl to guy ratio isn't 100 to 1 and I'm not sitting with $1,000 in front of me... lol

Can you name a poker-room that fits this criteria that Tampa Hard Rock isn't meeting for you?

$5-6 and sometimes $8 beers are pretty standard, $1/comps is standard if not above average outside of Las Vegas, and I think you'll have to show your work to convince anyone that this room is taking 80% of BBJ money for profit.

How can you even try to define it as either good or bad? Its just something that people do with varying motivations. Having 7 drinks and going on monkey tilt can hardly be defined as "bad". Maybe "fun" or "irresponsible" are better words.

We get $2/hr comps for $2/5 + NLHE and PLO. Only downside is we have to use them w/in 60 days and we can't use them to buy into donkaments (we used to be able to).

dude just wants to complain because the THR ain't Bellagio in Vegas.

First off, to the guys point about the jackpot drop.... Right now their promo is giving away $200.00 every half hour to a high hand between 12pm to 9pm I believe... lol I'm legit guessing that's less than 10% of the drop they take per day that they are giving away.. They capped the BBJ at 50k, and it pretty much never gets hit since it needs quad 10's or better to qualify... I don't even think anyone with a straight face can argue they actually use more than 20% of the jackpot money towards the promos. For comparison sake Derby Lanes has WAYYYY better promo's and is giving away much more money this month and get about 1/6th the players and drop....

About the expecting the Bellagio comps remark, not at all. I know there is no competition and they are free to do what they want and can get away with doing whatever they want, that being said, the things like paying $5.00 to park at a casino is just asinine to me. The place already makes BILLIONS each year, now they are just nickel and diming us even more... That's what I'm annoyed about...

That is because legally Derby Lane and all other parimutuel facilities are required to return 100% of the jackpot money to players, Seminoles are not.

I personally have a problem with pari's not abiding to that legal requirement when they give away seats to tournaments that are heavily raked, thus increasing profits, but that is nothing compared to the absolute lack of accountability written into the Seminole's monopoly contract with the state.

That was my point I was trying to make, is they could at least pretend to giving away a decent percentage of it. With the money they rake in, they easily could do $1,000 high hands every 30 min from 12pm to 12am 7 days a week, and still have plenty of money left over.... Instead, we get $200.00 from 12 to 9pm, and they just pocket I'm guessing 80-90% of it, and no one can do anything about it....

agree with this whole heartedly. both the tournament give-aways that include the tourney fee, and the seminoles clearly keeping their money bothers me.

i doubt they seminoles are allowed to keep their jackpot drop... are they? i assumed they just aren't as regulated in that area or have the same strict wording in their licensing agreement.

Their poker room is not regulated at all by the state. It is regulated only at the federal level, by the NIGC.

Under the NIGC regulations, a tribe can apply for a certificate of self regulation for Class II gaming (poker, bingo, et al). The Seminole Tribe has yet to meet the qualifications for self-regulation. Instead, they are regulated directly by the NIGC (although I don't know if that means there is any active inspection or oversight).

The NIGC regulations for card games (HERE and HERE) include these definitions:

Quote:
Primary and secondary jackpots means promotional pools offered at certain card games that can be won in addition to the primary pot.

Promotional payout means merchandise or awards given to players by the gaming operation based on a wagering activity.

Promotional progressive pots and/or pools means funds contributed to a table game or card game by and for the benefit of players. Funds are distributed to players based on a predetermined event.
These terms apply to the poker room jackpots. The term "jackpot" alone in the regulations refers only to machine (slots) jackpots. These are the actual regulations regarding poker room promotional pools:

Quote:
(h) Standards for promotional progressive pots and pools. (1) All funds contributed by players into the pools shall be returned when won in accordance with the posted rules with no commission or administrative fee withheld.

(2) Rules governing promotional pools shall be conspicuously posted and designate:

(i) The amount of funds to be contributed from each pot;

(ii) What type of hand it takes to win the pool (e.g., what constitutes a “bad beat”);

(iii) How the promotional funds will be paid out;

(iv) How/when the contributed funds are added to the jackpots; and

(v) Amount/percentage of funds allocated to primary and secondary jackpots, if applicable.

(3) Promotional pool contributions shall not be placed in or near the rake circle, in the drop box, or commingled with gaming revenue from card games or any other gambling game.

(4) The amount of the jackpot shall be conspicuously displayed in the card room.

(5) At least once a day, the posted pool amount shall be updated to reflect the current pool amount.

(6) At least once a day, increases to the posted pool amount shall be reconciled to the cash previously counted or received by the cage by personnel independent of the card room.

(7) All decreases to the pool must be properly documented, including a reason for the decrease.

(i) Promotional progressive pots and pools where funds are displayed in the card room. (1) Promotional funds displayed in the card room shall be placed in a locked container in plain view of the public.

(2) Persons authorized to transport the locked container shall be precluded from having access to the contents keys.

(3) The contents key shall be maintained by personnel independent of the card room.

(4) At least once a day, the locked container shall be removed by two persons, one of whom is independent of the card games department, and transported directly to the cage or other secure room to be counted, recorded, and verified.

(5) The locked container shall then be returned to the card room where the posted pool amount shall be updated to reflect the current pool amount.

(j) Promotional progressive pots and pools where funds are maintained in the cage. (1) Promotional funds removed from the card game shall be placed in a locked container.

(2) Persons authorized to transport the locked container shall be precluded from having access to the contents keys.

(3) The contents key shall be maintained by personnel independent of the card room.

(4) At least once a day, the locked container shall be removed by two persons, one of whom is independent of the card games department, and transported directly to the cage or other secure room to be counted, recorded, and verified, prior to accepting the funds into cage accountability.

(5) The posted pool amount shall then be updated to reflect the current pool amount.
and:

Quote:
f) Posted rules. The rules must be displayed or available for patron review at the gaming operation, including rules governing contests, prize payouts, fees, the rake collected, and the placing of antes.

g) Promotional progressive pots and pools. (1) All funds contributed by players into the pools must be returned when won in accordance with posted rules, and no commission or administrative fee may be withheld.

(i) The payout may be in the form of personal property, such as a car.

(ii) A combination of a promotion and progressive pool may be offered.

(2) The conditions for participating in current card game promotional progressive pots and/or pools must be prominently displayed or available for patron review at the gaming operation.

(3) Individual payouts for card game promotional progressive pots and/or pools that are $600 or more must be documented at the time of the payout to include the following:

(i) Patron's name;

(ii) Date of payout;

(iii) Dollar amount of payout and/or nature and dollar value of any non-cash payout;

(iv) The signature of the agent completing the transaction attesting to the disbursement of the payout; and

(v) Name of contest/tournament.

(4) If the cash (or cash equivalent) payout for the card game promotional progressive pot and/or pool is less than $600, documentation must be created to support accountability of the bank from which the payout was made.

(5) Rules governing current promotional pools must be conspicuously posted in the card room and/or available in writing for patron review. The rules must designate:

(i) The amount of funds to be contributed from each pot;

(ii) What type of hand it takes to win the pool;

(iii) How the promotional funds will be paid out;

(iv) How/when the contributed funds are added to the pools; and

(v) Amount/percentage of funds allocated to primary and secondary pools, if applicable.

(6) Promotional pool contributions must not be placed in or near the rake circle, in the drop box, or commingled with gaming revenue from card games or any other gambling game.

(7) The amount of the pools must be conspicuously displayed in the card room.

(8) At least once each day that the game is offered, the posted pool amount must be updated to reflect the current pool amount.

(9) At least once each day that the game is offered, agents independent of the card room must reconcile the increases to the posted pool amount to the cash previously counted or received by the cage.

(10) All decreases to the pool must be properly documented, including a reason for the decrease.

(11) Promotional funds removed from the card game must be placed in a locked container.

(i) Agents authorized to transport the locked container are precluded from having access to the contents keys.

(ii) The contents key must be maintained by a department independent of the card room.

(iii) At least once a day, the locked container must be removed by two agents, one of whom is independent of the card games department, and transported directly to the cage or other secure room to be counted, recorded, and verified, prior to accepting the funds into cage accountability.
A couple years ago, I complained to the NIGC that the Seminole poker rooms were not complying with these regulations in terms of posting the promotional pool rules and amounts. Shortly thereafter, the poker rooms published all their jackpot policies and displayed their rules and amounts. Their general rule was that 40% of the drop goes to the badbeat pools (primary, secondary, tertiary) and the other 60% goes to "Poker Promotional Fund" for "future promotions" (e.g., high hands). At the time, player points rewards were also paid out from this promotional fund, but that is no longer true. Ask at the podium for the published jackpot rules - they should still have a printed brochure.

If you are seeing or suspect any violations of these regulations, you can report it to the NIGC Regional Office:

Quote:
Washington, DC Regional Office:

Mailing Address:

NIGC Attn: whoever it is addressed to C/O Department of the Interior

I think the apparent big discrepancy between the amounts of the jackpot giveaways and the estimated jackpot drop totals is largely attributable to their Hollywood Hard Rock tournament series Main Event seat giveaways. But you should be able to see the current promotional pools amounts posted, including both the badbeat jackpots and the Poker Promotional Fund, per the regulations.

there's always a scrolling balance of the JP fund at the bottom on the bravo screen at THR. Yesterday is was like 306K. I thought they were stocking up on it to give away a bunch of 1100.00 seats, but this didn't happen.

I think that is just the Jackpot Fund (badbeat jackpot), which is separate from the Poker Promotions Fund. I could be wrong.

I played WPT main event flight 1A yesterday, I'm tilted i didn't bag, i was a top 3 chip leader mentioned on the blog at dinner break, i fell to pieces the final 2 levels.

anyways, it's cold as **** in there now, the AC is working and felt like it was 58 degrees. i'm from MN originally but still.

there were about 160 entries so already 150k in prize pool, i suspect this will go to 500k pool. check the blog i think 33 bagged.

i would valet for $20 in that situation and let them screw around with it... or was it when you went to the window to leave they asked for $50? the hotel is $25 i think and casino $20, that's posted. if the $50 isn't posted i would tell them no thanks.
