Perhaps the tribe will now get a little less greedy and a little more customer oriented:

Seminole Tribe chairman Billie ousted from office by unanimous vote

Quote:
James Billie, the former alligator wrestler who built the Seminole Tribe of Florida into a major business enterprise, has once again been removed from office after the tribe's members moved to recall him.

The Seminole Tribal Council, the tribe's governing body, voted unanimously to oust its chairman Wednesday after tribal members filed a recall petition, citing various issues with policies and procedures of the chairman's office, Seminole Tribe spokesman Gary Bitner said.

It is unclear what their specific grievances were.

A special election will be held within 30 days to elect a new chairman for the Hollywood-based tribe, which operates a business empire that began with the sale of tax-free cigarettes in the 1970s and expanded to include hotels, citrus groves, tourist attractions and Seminole Hard Rock casinos throughout South Florida...
Quote:
Billie was suspended without pay in 2001 after a financial scandal during which Billie made a series of secret deals that included moving $60 million in tribal money to a brokerage account. He funneled tribal funds into a secret offshore Internet gambling venture, invested in an airplane manufacturing plant, made a down payment on a $30 million luxury jet and started up a cattle operation in Nicaragua.

He was eventually removed from office in 2003 and was replaced by Cypress, one of the tribal leaders who pushed for his dismissal in 2001.

Although Billie eventually apologized for some of his activities, he was never charged with wrongdoing and the Seminoles agreed to pay him $600,000 when settling a lawsuit initiated by the tribe.

"In my heart, I'm still chief of the tribe. They stole it from me," Billie said in 2007.

Billie was re-elected chairman in 2011. His last re-election was in May 2015...

Just heard today from more than one person that, starting Monday 10/03/17, any tournament entry OR 3 hours at a cash game will get your parking fee waived.

No official announcement yet, but that's the credible rumor.

What are the logistics: how do they validate for the parking? Is it done at the poker podium?

Considering what a disaster it is with just showing a slip and guard uses his badge to open the arm, probably just flash tourney receipt.

OK, I was wrong.

Before Halloween

I know technically it's still not "free", but I have never driven to the THR and played less than a 3 hour session. So free parking is back for 99% of poker players.

Good news! I'll be back as soon as it's official.

Yes I boycotted and yes I am cheap.

I also stated since day 1 I figured it would be done by the New Year, awesome victory for the poker players! I also have been boycotting myself, although I can't lie, I've also enjoyed my time at the other rooms, hope a lot of the fishes that stopped going to the HR still go to the other rooms too

Looks like the supervisors in the poker room will verify the three hours and issue a free parking pass, as well as for the tourney entries.

Too little, too late. I hope the impact of their greed has permanent effects on THR poker room attendance.

You should consider that if you get what you are hoping for, then the livelihood of the room employees could be affected in a very negative way. The casino employs real people and they and their families depend on the success of the room.

Luckily the employees can choose to change their careers.

I get where you're coming from, but you could say this about almost any company. Should we want every single one of them to succeed no matter what they do just because they have real people working for them, many of whom aren't part of the corporate greed at the top? I don't think it's wrong of him to feel the way he does. If those people lose work, it's their employers' faults for screwing everyone. And the players are among those screwed.

Strange series of negative posts in response to positive news. The "greedy" parties are the Seminole HardRock Casino management, not the poker room manager. The poker room manager went to bat for the players and succeeded in getting the fee waived for 3 hours of poker play, or tournament entry. It was a job well done by the poker room manager and it seems very likely the room will continue to thrive and rightly so. When the new, supposedly state of the art poker room opens in a few months, the popularity should soar even more. And again, rightly so.

So the casino charges $10 to park. If you show up 100 times a year that's $1000. That's the equivalent of two buyins at 2/5 or five buyins at 1/2. This amount is completely inconsequential (if you don't think this is an inconsequential amount then you don't need to be anywhere near a casino.) So objectively, the casino's decision to charge for parking should have no real effect on it's patrons. Now I agree that we don't have to like it and we are free to form any opinion that we care to, but to openly post a desire to see the room fail (I can't see any other interpretation for post # 9616) just seems vindictive and mean spirited.

See, I just think this is the kind of thinking that fuels corporate greed. Not sure what more to say about it. This **** adds up to people who are just trying to have a good time.

I view myself as about as balanced as anyone else on this forum between casino employees and players, and I view the above post as spot on. It's only ****ty dealers who would be anything but minorly inconvenienced by a big downturn in business for THR.

it's not even a case of changing careers. the action isn't ceasing to exist... it's just moving to other local rooms. one room let's dealers ago due to decrease in patronage, another room hires dealers due to increase in patronage. dealers just move rooms.

The casino doesn't seem to think it's inconsequential. They're willing to suffer through lots of negative public feedback to shake this extra cash out of their patrons' pockets. Seems a bit mean spirited to me.
