I see they decided to cancel the OE and O8 tournaments they had scheduled for the Winter Open series. Naturally, the two I looked forward to playing.

I don't play Omaha but why canceled? Just lack of interest or something else?

No clue. They must have found out I took the weekend off of work to play them.

Hi Communitty,

I recently played a hand and would appreciate some feedback. All opinions welcome.

I was playing 1/2 NL on the button with about 400 effectively. I had AJ suited where MP and the HIJACK called I made it 6 and MP and HIJACK continued. FLOP : A Q 7 Rainbow.

MP and HJ check I bet 17 they both call. TURN 8 doesn't help HERO flush draw

MP checks HJ bets 125.

I folded. My question comes from knowing earlier the HJ had bluffed and been called but he bet physically different and I folded thinking this was a sucker bet knowing he was stuck in the game from previous play and maybe he thought I would pay him off with top pair.??

That's a really small preflop raise after 2 limpers. Should make it 12 or more.

His turn bet is so incredibly big, I'm happily folding because if he's actually bluffing he might just donate his stack to you on another hand anyway. But he had something worth calling the flop OOP, so it would just be sort of ridiculous if he takes this line with worse than AJ.

Going to be in Tampa for a couple weeks in December.

Is THR still the place to play? How are the games and Gandy?

thanks I thought it was ridiculous if he would do this with less than 2 pair. I bet 6 thinking i would get multiple callers with ten. For sizing against multiple limpers you suggest ten my experience has been if its nit 12/15/20 preflop in this spot I don't get any more folds. If you do bet this size in 1/2 my question would be are you jamming the flop when you hit the ACE?
Also thanks

Hey guys, I’m looking to move to the Clearwater/St Pete area early 2019. Any tips for a 31 yo that likes beach/boating/fishing?

Can someone give me the breakdown of pros/cons of Clearwater vs St Pete?

Also, I’ve already lined up a few recruiters and they are pushing the metro Tampa area hard (just more available jobs, my career is corporate finance). Should I consider this area too or is that too far removed if I truly want the beach lifestyle?

I’m from the panhandle originally and prefer Pensacola over destin if that helps (pcola being local and destin being touristy)

Appreciate any insight. Not too concerned with poker as those will just be one off trips, don’t need something close. Really just interested in the diff lifestyles the areas offer.

If you want to play 2/5 or up only the hard rock is the place to play. The Gandy room only spreads 2/5 for part of the day and some days it never gets going. The 1/3 can definitely play big for a 1/3 but if 2/5 isn’t running you can somehow end up with 3 pros in a 1/3 game which is the nut low. Gandy can be awesome but it’s hit or miss. THR is also aesthetically a nicer room.

I haven’t explored Clearwater or Tampa much but I really enjoy living in St Pete. The downtown area is solid. There are good food options, some nice parks, and a sufficient amount of stuff to do/museums/culture. The beaches are nice as long as red tide isn’t an issue. It’s true that the nice beaches are on the gulf but the commute from Tampa to say Clearwater Beach or Fort de Soto isn’t too bad so you could live in Tampa. I like kayaking and getting out on the water but I don’t fish so I can’t help you there.

I understand why the recruiter was pushing Tampa in terms of the job market. I’m not educated on the topic but I don’t see many office buildings etc in St Pete. I could be wrong.

For the beach/boating/fishing lifestyle, Pinellas County (Clearwater, St. Pete, etc.) is definitely superior to Tampa as Pinellas has the coast of the Gulf of Mexico; Tampa's coast is Tampa Bay - still beach/boating/fishing opportunities there but not nearly the same quantity and quality. If you live in Pinellas County, your drive to the coast will be 15 to 30 minutes generally; from Tampa, add 25 to 45 minutes to that, maybe more in heavy traffic.

St. Pete has a chic downtown, good for culture, night life and restaurants. But pretty much anywhere in Pinellas (or Tampa) puts you in easy reach of those things. Clearwater is more centrally located in Pinellas than St. Pete, so it puts a lot more in easy reach - north, south, east, west.

For your work career, Tampa will have a lot more opportunities. But there will be some in Pinellas as well.

PM me if you want to discuss more in depth. Give some details of the lifestyle you want here, including things like entertainment, types of boating/fishing/beach, house/apt/neighborhood, cultural activities, travel, etc.

I use to live in Indian Shores and it was really nice. It's in between Clearwater Beach and St Pete Beach.

Depending on where your job is it's not the most convenient commute.

I typically play 2/5 but when I use to play at Gandy I liked the 500 dollar buy in at 1/3.

Do you have any idea if the hardrock is doing cash for 75 hours of play again? I am not seeing an update for December on their website.

Confirmed that the chicken is real chicken. This is from someone who steaked a fish....

Yeah 2/5 has been freaking depressing since they cut the promos in half back in like September.

And no hourly this month. Awesome. Somehow each month is worse than the one before. I hear they're getting a new director though. Maybe he/she will improve things.

At this point a monkey could design better promos.

My question to the 2/5 complainers ITT: what are YOU doing to make games better?

Everything is relative. I think the 2/5 games are awesome. There are plenty of pots that get raised to 20-25 dollars and gets called in 3-4 spots preflop (sometimes more).

I guess coming from Saint Louis where 2/5 runs 2-3 times per week and we are lucky to get 2 tables on a Friday night anything looks good though.

I also played a lot of 2/5 in Vegas back in June and I think the Tampa Hard Rocks games are better than most of the 2/5 games I played in Vegas as well.

Edit: There have been a few games I've been in where several of the players bring only black chips (assuming these are the pro's) and those games are nitty. 1-2 of them will request a table change though and then the games gets a lot better.
