I'm planning to take a trip and visit the Hard Rock. What are some of the best places to stay? I checked the Hard Rock website and it was about $200/night which is high for me.

It's been irregular lately.

By 1am last night the only game bigger than $5/10NL was a $10/25NL that was playing 4-handed and broke shortly thereafter. That's pretty abysmal for a Saturday night.

Can someone tell me why they run a 1/2 and a 1/3? Is there any difference in BI's / min BI'S?

1/2nl stayed like it was pre July 1st $100 max. The 1/3nl is $100-$300. unfortunately the majority of the donks are at the $100 max. Wish they would get rid of 1/2nl or get rid of 1/3nl and increase max buy in on 1/2nl.

There's been a change in regards to high-limit poker at The Rock:

Rather than offering both $10/20NL and $10/25NL, there is now only $10/25NL. The buy-in for this game has been dropped from $2500 min. to $1500 and remains uncapped with a $10/half hour rake + jackpot drop. Shorthanded games (4 players or less) pay $6/half hour.

Games $10/25NL and higher are now located in the small room to the right of the brush stand on the 1st floor. $5/10NL games have also been moved downstairs but go back to where they used to be in the main room along the glass wall.

laaame, i actually liked having the 5/10 and 10/20 games upstairs. That way u dont get all the low stakes limit and the 1/2 players crowding around/eyeing stacks. I thought it was a great idea to have the higher stakes upstairs, cuz honestly HR HW is a pretty sketchy place and the less people to see how much money u have infront of u the better.

getting rid of 10-20 and having a 1k-1500 min/uncapped 10-25 game is EXACTLY what i suggested to multiple floormen during the 1st week of july. to spread two games of such similar stakes without a fully developed player pool just wasn't gonna work. killing off 10-20 has the additional benefit of speeding up the game: the poker room doesn't have 10 or 20 dollar chips, so we were playing 10-20 with reds and greens, which was a total nightmare cuz the dealer would have to make change nearly every single hand. this was a great decision and i'm likely to make another trip there sooner because of it.

however, when i was there the 10-20+ games did NOT drop for the jackpot--they're dropping for it now? when/why? this is a development i don't care for.

Tampa Hard Rock introduced $10 chips a few days ago. Not sure if Hollywood got them. Also not sure if Tampa will follow this new game change. 10/20nl and 10/25nl has rarely gone anyway.

Yeah, I don't really understand the jackpot drop either. Instead of the dealers taking $1 from each pot, they have been asking for $2 from each player when they collect time. They do this to avoid having to make change from the pot each hand, which speeds up the game, but all it does is make it even more obvious that you're overpaying to play the game. $11/half hour for $10/25NL? So the house is making $198/hour from a full table.

There's a local room that takes a $5 rake + $2 jackpot drop/hand for $10/25NL and bigger, so at roughly 20 hand/hour, they're making about $140/hour. That's almost a 30% discount to play the same game and you're still jackpot eligible (not that anyone really cares).

The time charge on the 10/25 and higher games is $10 per half hour. Jackpot drop was initially not taken on time collection games. However many of the players asked that the jackpot be included in the HE games specifically to be eligible for the Mega BBJ.

After the jackpot was taken from those games, the players asked for it to be taken along with time collection and $2 was agreed on.

The players have been very comfortable with these games and it's not uncommon to find 2-3 of these games going on each day.

wait, is the jackpot drop $2 per player per half-hr? so $40/hr goes to the jackpot? wtf. there's no way they get 40 hands out in a hr, nice job getting ripped off.

Those games are 9-handed but yeah, you're right. Even $36/hour is too much. If I can get 36 hands in an hour at that game I'll be happy to pay the jackpot but I'm lucky to see 20-25 at a full table.

Really? 40 hands/hr seems reasonable at those stakes... not every hand is going to the river... prob only 1/2 are going to the flop

At a short table I'd be more inclined to agree but for every hand at a full game that doesn't see a flop (few), there's a hand that involves tanking or hollywood'ing. Also, less hands going to the river is another reason why paying more to be jackpot eligible is silly.
