Yeah, I don't really understand the jackpot drop either. Instead of the dealers taking $1 from each pot, they have been asking for $2 from each player when they collect time. They do this to avoid having to make change from the pot each hand, which speeds up the game, but all it does is make it even more obvious that you're overpaying to play the game. $11/half hour for $10/25NL? So the house is making $198/hour from a full table.
There's a local room that takes a $5 rake + $2 jackpot drop/hand for $10/25NL and bigger, so at roughly 20 hand/hour, they're making about $140/hour. That's almost a 30% discount to play the same game and you're still jackpot eligible (not that anyone really cares).
