Mucks had a stud-high game last Friday night. I guess it would be 4/8 with the above nomenclature? They called it 1-4: $0.50 ante, $1 bring-in, $4 small bet and $8 big bets.

Stud revival in Seattle?

Factor in the Hideaway HORSE game and we probably have some of the most diverse limit offerings outside of LV, California, and maybe AC or Foxwoods.

Played at the Royal Casino in Everett last-night with it's Wednesday high-hand promotion. Three tables were in play by 6PM, all 2/20. The main table had plenty of loose action. Most everyone is a regular. The Royal is consistently a nice friendly environment with decent comps.

The Royal holds a couple of warts. One, the low table stake limits. Two, some of their regulars soft play each other when heads-up or even with multiples. No hiding, just announce after the flop - "check it down." And they do.

Pretty standard practice in LHE. If you're surprised, you haven't played much LHE.

On the bright side, most of these guys have no clue what they're doing, and soft play really doesn't have as much effect in LHE as it does in NLHE.

Not kidding at all. Started this Wed, planned to be a weekly game.

I don't know what time; you'll have to call and ask. They also do HORSE (actually ORSEC with crazy pineapple H/L instead of the H rounds) on Saturdays.

Back in town and finally ditched the taxis and am now renting a car. Does Hideaway have regular games on Mon/Tue nights, too? From my trip report last week, you can tell I liked Caribbean, but I'd like to try out other rooms, too. And if stud/8 is a possibility on Wednesdays at Hideaway, holy crap am I there.

[Edit: and yes, poster somewhere above. Apparently I'm a "Microsoftee" instead of a Microsoft'er. You posted that, and then on Thursday, Steve Ballmer said it about 5 feet from me and I immediately thought, "2+2 guy said that!". *drinks the Kool-Aid*]

The calendar on the website (although not updated often) is pretty accurate from what I can remember: http://www.hideawaycasino.com/poker.html

They have 10am and 7pm NLH tourneys. Then there are the regular 3/20 spread limit holdem games plus a 3/6 full kill omaha table as well. And last time I was in town a $2 or $5 kondition PAN game would open a couple days each week

Not to be a negative Nelly, but does Hideaway still drop $4 + $2?

I didn't pay attention, but surely the $2 jackpot drop doesn't affect the stud 8 or the ORSEC (except maybe the O rounds), right?

Anyway, WA players are a little spoiled, since at least $4 rake is super-standard everywhere else. I used to play in a game in Detroit with 10% to $6.

Yep. Supposedly they'll have great giveaways to liquidate the jackpot. Wish I could have been there.

Trip Report - The Hideaway Restaurant and Casino

On reading the news that there was a stud/8 game at The Hideaway last Wednesday, and anticipating that they might spread it again, I decided to venture out of my Redmond comfort zone after work and go visit The Hideaway.

First off, it was my first time driving over the floating bridge on SR520. It was 7pmish and the sun was still shining and ... oh my! It was a beautiful! All the sailboats over by UW made the whole thing very picturesque. On the other hand, SR520 is a toll bridge. I wasn't prepared for the "if you don't have a toll tag thingie, they mail you a double-amount bill", and I'm worried about what that's going to cost me over time. I knew it was a toll, but I assumed there would be, you know, a toll booth. Oops. Guess that's how a lot of toll roads are going these days.

Secondly, it was my first time seeing the famous Husky football stadium. I'd seen it on TV plenty, and was always curious about the end of the horseshoe that faces out to the water. Man, is that stadium ugly, but man, is that stadium cool!

I got to Shoreline and The Hideaway and realized I wasn't in the best of neighborhoods. Thankfully I found the parking in the back.

The room is interesting. It's a card room with 8 tables or so, and a small bar and restaurant that no one was at.

I went to the desk and said, "Hi! It's my first time here!" They were incredibly gracious hosts. The dealers all learned my name and called me by it. Theresa, the owner, came by to welcome me to her room and we chit-chatted for a bit. Nice lady.

There is a $6/12 Stud/8 game scheduled for 8pm on Wednesday. There is a sign-up board already up, and I took a spot. If you want to play in it, call or go over and sign up, or get on the list if it's full.

I played $3-6 Omaha/8 with a full kill for 3 hours. The game was incredibly soft, with only 2 players who understood even basic Omaha/8 strategy. (Cue obligatory poker response: "So how much did you lose?") I had a good time socializing with my neighbor, a regular named Reggie who was very gregarious, and some of the staff.

There was a 7pm NLHE tourney going on. Only two tables. It ended around 10pm. I didn't watch any of the action, but it looked from afar like a typical NLHE tourney. Young kids with their reflective sunglasses, and the like.

The biggest stand out for me was the chairs. Wow. Leather poker chairs in good shape with generously sized seats and backs. SO COMFORTABLE! I could totally get used to those chairs in a card room.

Bottom line for this poker writer is I'll be back for stud/8 and see how it goes. It's a bit far, and the neighborhood a bit shady, for me to seriously consider making it a regular joint. Plus, I don't want to play LL Omaha/8 the rest of my life. I'd rather watch them make paint and then watch it dry. That would be more exciting.

Regards,
Garp74

I won $1 in that game, for an impressive $0.33/hr win rate.

Beating the rake in any live game is impressive. Nice job.

Tonight I played in the $6-12 stud/8 game which began at 8pm at The Hideaway. The list was pre-populated during the week with the initial 8 players, and an alt list had already formed.

The game started at 8, and the first player busted out just after 11pm. Everyone on the alt list pretty much struck out. Only about $600 busted out in the 3.5 hours I played. The rest of the players just traded chips, with some folks doing well, and the rest doing middling well or middling not-so-well.

The game wasn't much different than the stud/8 I remember playing in the 90s and early 2000s. Good players, medium players, and bad players. Some hands had a ton of action and really large pots. Some hands were checked-down.

Theresa will let us know, but I suspect the game will continue for the forseeable future. It's a good addition to a Wednesday night, and there's sufficient interest that it isn't going to die anytime in the next few weeks (I think).

So if you're interested in playing, get to The Hideaway on Monday or Tuesday and get your name on the initial list!

Yeah, sorry -- I forgot to mention that you need to sign up for it.

BTW, it seems the stud 8 may lure some of the donors out of the Wed. LO8 game, but I'm not attached to either one. I'm glad to see the 7s8 action even though I'm better at LO8.
